Cal-Rods Newsletter The purpose of this Association is to establish a family oriented social club that promotes the enjoyment, restoration, and preservation of street rods and classic cars. From the Cal-Rods Car Club Originating in 1954 at Baldwin Park High School http://cal-rods.org January, February, March 2016 Volume 2, Issue 1 Editors: Beverly Campbell & Emma Reardon Contact: hotrodgranny6@hotmail.com Still Cruising After All These Years Our newly elected Cal-Rods Board members Jim Karls, Bob O Neal, & Mark Bowers took their place at the January Cal-Rods Meeting. Thanks to retired Board Member John Givens who did a good job as Board Member & Club Secretary. We started out the New Year with a cruise & tour at Karls Speed & Kustom shop in Montclair & then on to Legends Burgers for lunch. In March we had a cruise to Menifee to visit the Motte Historical Museum which had some beautiful cars and then off to lunch. Thanks Joe & Joyce Rode for setting up this cruise. We re preparing for our Cal-Rods 10 th Annual Car Show on May 22 nd at Santa Anita Park Race Track. We could use some more volunteers to help with the show & contributions for the Raffle Table. We also need more Cal-Rods to enter their Cars in the show. Entry fee is only $20; if you can t make the car show, it s a small contribution to a good cause. Our car show is the financial source for many of our activities throughout the year & is a major source for our charitable contributions at year end. For more information contact Show Director John Givens. The Cal-Rods had a good turnout for the Cool Cruise Car show in La Verne. We also handled the parking for the show and got a nice contribution for our efforts. It is with great sorrow that I inform you of the death of long time Cal-Rods member Dale Rothrock. Dale passed away January 24 th 2016. Again with great sorrow, I inform you that Cal-Rods Member Ed Pawasarat passed away March 10 th, 2016. Services were held March 14 th at Salmon, Idaho. Stay healthy my friends, Jack Ferguson, President Reminder: Please sign up for the Santa Anita Car Show early this year! Well it s that time again; we re off to the races! Our Annual Car Show is May 22 at Santa Anita Race Track. Mark your calendars! And this is your Raffle/50-50 Booth Chairman soliciting for items for the same. Keep this is mind if you regularly shop, eat at or attend places that could provide gifts. So many businesses are willing if someone just asks for a donation. It s an advertisement for them & we accept most anything. We add their name to the Program if the donation is over $100. Everyone who attends gets a program!! What great exposure! If the donation is less than $100 we have their business cards or flyers or whatever we can put together to get their name out at the show. AND we need each & every member to help in any way possible. If you have a gift you ll never use, send it our way! We try very hard to make each item worth at least $30.00; most are much more. We already have a donated LoJack valued near $700! We also have a gift certificate from another company for $100. So please, make it a point to check around the house & garage to see what surprises you might find. If its value is less than $30 we can use your donation to add to other items to increase the value. Gift cards are great too. Items like toys, tools, that handbag you never used, can be used to place a gift card inside. How about that appliance you just had to have and is still in the box waiting to be used? Think out of the box; think sports; think tickets, & on & on. Car stuff is always nice but there is so much more. Remember at Santa Anita we re getting people out of the stands who probably aren t car buffs so it doesn't have to be car related! If you make something crafty, bring it out. We have had hand- made quilts/afghans in the past. Strollers made with sports motif fabric/games/ plants/bird feeders are all great ideas. Gift baskets display nicely & are always fun to receive. If you would like to create a basket, they are appreciated. Bringing the items to the club meeting is perfect but we will pick up as well. Thank you all for your help. J. Rode 626-332-5688 jjrode2@verizon.net New information about the Twilight Cruise at the NHRA. It starts April 6th and will continue on the first Wednesday of every month thereafter through December. You will not be able to go in until 2:00 pm. There is now an entry fee at the gate of $5.00. Part of the fee will be used as a giveaway back to the participants.
