Zambia The incredible wilderness Safaris in Zambia are considered an inside secret. Explore inner Africa, where people are friendly and vibrant and the landscape is still wild and untouched.

T his is a unique safari destination where you can enjoy the breathtaking natural richness, lush vegetation and abundant wildlife away from mass tourism, be it on foot, while canoeing on the mighty Zambezi or unforgettable day and night game drives. The South Luangwa National Park and Lower Zambezi have become tourist-friendly and offer you exciting and exclusive safaris by boat, 4x4 or on foot. The South Luangwa National Park is considered the origin of hiking safaris. Join seasoned rangers as you experience the true taste of the African wilderness. In addition to the vast savannah and scrubland, there are huge rivers where crocodiles and hippos live. The two major rivers, the Zambezi in the south and the Congo in the north, make Zambia one of the most waterrich countries on the continent. The mighty rivers with their beautiful shores, numerous lakes and waterfalls will captivate you. The most impressive are the rich Victoria Falls. At a length of almost 2 kilometers, the Zambezi falls over 100 meters deep and forms a natural border with Zimbabwe.

Experiences Zambia is a unique safari destination. We like to say that Zambia is what Botswana was 20 years ago, the game reserves are still wild and largely untouched. But that does not mean you have to do without luxurious and breathtaking camps and lodges. The game drives in open off-road vehicles are excellent - due to the relatively small number of visitors and the great variety of animal species. The early morning game drive begins with an early climax: Imagine waking up before dawn with the sound of a multitude of bird calls and a hot cup of coffee that gets you going before you set off. And there is even a newspaper - the Busch-Zeitung. From the tracks in the sand you can find out what happened during the night. A perfect way to wake up slowly and start your safari adventure. From 11:00 am to 3:00 pm, the hottest time of the day, many animals retreat to the shadows. The afternoon game drive starts at half past three. During this time, most animals are found near the waterholes. In the evening there is another highlight: the sundowner. The evening sun creates a magical atmosphere and the team puts the table with snacks and drinks somewhere out in the open, where during the sundowner you can enjoy the amazing colors of the sunset and sometimes even the animals from a safe distance. Some animals are slowly making their way to their sleeping places and others like lions, wild dogs, leopards and hyenas are only now getting really active. It is recommended to go on a night game drive. The bush looks completely different during the night and has exciting surprises in store: big cats on the hunt, bush babies flocking around, and if you are lucky enough (very, very, very lucky), an aardvark or a pangolin (steppe panguin) could cross your path.

Best travel times We are always asked which seasons or months are best for a trip to Zambia. Zambia can be visited all year round. In order to facilitate the decision of the when, we would like to give you some hints below. April to September It certainly will not rain during these months. During the day it is always warm, but the nights are colder. June, July and August are the high winter months and the game viewing opportunities are outstanding. This is the time we absolutely recommend for first time visitors. September to December Although bird watching in Zambia is rewarding throughout the year, this is the best time for birdwatchers. From October onwards, the trees will blossom and give the landscape a nice colour. In the lower valleys it is very hot during October, November and December. December to April Travel is restricted during the rainy season. On the other hand, the months of February, March and April show breathtaking tropical abundance and splendor. This is also a great time for bird watching, especially in December.

National Parks The Kafue National Park The Kafue National Park was founded in 1950 by legendary British environmental and conservationist Norman Carr, making it the country s oldest and largest national park. With 22,400 square kilometers, Zambia is about half the size of Switzerland. The national park is one of the largest in the world. Kafue has the most diverse variety of animals in Zambia, including a number of rare antelopes and predators such as lions, cheetahs, wild dogs and leopards and more than 500 species of birds. There are a variety of natural habitats such as open grasslands, wetlands, deciduous forests and the Kafue River, which flows through the park from north to south. A fantastic safari destination with few visitors. This area is still largely undeveloped, correspondingly bad are road conditions and rar the accommodations. If you are interested in lions and want to know more about them, we have a very special insider tip in addition to the first-class Wilderness Camps, which promises you unique and unforgettable experiences. The 750 km² Busanga Plain, transformed into a huge lake during the rainy season, is one of the best places in the Kafue National Park to experience the diversity of big animals. During the dry season, however, some ponds remain and provide an excellent habitat for large herds of antelope. On all rivers live hippos, crocodiles and iguanas and among the various species of birds interested in the white-headed bearded bird and the scarlet sprat. Lower Zambezi National Park Lower - Zambezi National Park is located 120 kilometers east of Lusaka is the Lower Zambezi National Park, the youngest National Park designated area in Zambia. The opportunities for a safari are superb and the canoeing experience on the Zambezi is spectacular. Many mammals also live there: elephants, buffalos, lions, leopards, jackals and numerous antelope species can be seen daily in the park. With a bit of luck, you can also spot cheetahs and African wild dogs. The Zambezi River is home to large hippo and crocodile populations. This is also a paradise for bird lovers - over 400 species of birds are known, including Scarlet Spit, Angola Pitta, Narina Trogon and Pale Tortoise.

South Luangwa National Park This park is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful in Africa. It is the home of the foot safaris and an absolute must for animal and nature lovers. Breathtaking scenery and outstanding wildlife viewing along the Luangwa promise an unforgettable safari experience. Countless hippos and crocodiles bask on the sand banks of the Luangwa River, which is still one of Africa s most pristine rivers, providing stunning imagery for every visitor. This park also has an exceptional population of leopards and lions that are most active during the night. Since South Luangwa is one of the few national parks where night safaris are allowed, this is a place for big cat lovers.the dry season attracts many animals to the river, including puku, waterbuck, impala, kudu and antelope. The Thornicroft giraffe and Coockson gnu can also be found in the Luangwa Valley. Also found are pythons, scorpions, squirrels, baboons, buffalos and many more. Warthogs, elephants and zebras are common in the lagoons. The hunters include lions, leopards, hyenas and African wild dogs. Hundreds of bird species make South Luangwa National Park a great place for ornithologists. Although the park is open year-round, most camps are only open during the dry season from April to October. There are a few exceptions, e.g. Kapani, Chinzombo and Kakuli. North Luangwa National Park North of the South Luangwa National Park, there is one of the wildest areas in Zambia: the North Luangwa National Park. This sanctuary is inaccessible to the public, and as it has no permanent lodges or camps, you will hardly see anyone for the duration of your trip. You reach the park with one of the few tour operators who have permission to visit. Then you can also do foot safaris (walking safaris) and stay in one of the few bush camps. Accompanied by an experienced guide, you can enjoy the freedom of the African expanse on foot and return home from your journey with an unforgettable safari experience. If you are looking for a real adventure, this almost untouched part of Zambia is just the place for you. The park is known for its huge buffalo herds and lion packs. Other common mammals include hyenas, wildebeests, bushbucks, zebras, warthogs, baboons, monkeys, elan antelopes, puku and impala. Elephants and leopards see visitors less often. For the South Luangwa National Park is more appropriate. Bird lovers will also find a paradise
