Meeting Report Sunday, February 12, 2012 Vice President Garrie Fox opened the meeting at 10:10. Patricia Fox was not there due to bronchitis. John Koll reports approximately $3100 in the treasury. Garrie and Patricia are still talking to Mr Colton at Al Serra Chevrolet about sponsorship of PPCC. When their remodel is finished they will have a room to accommodate up to 50 people. The club is still looking for someone to chair the 2013 Tri-State. OLD BUSINESS: Garrie presented Steve Goodman with a Starbucks card and a pre-tied Christmas tie in appreciation for his service to the club. Steve reminded us that there are only 30 rooms set aside in Salida for the Tri- State (May 18-20) so we should book early. The Tri-State is the same weekend as the Abby show in Canon City and the Florence car show. Club patches are available for $1 or $2 depending on the size. UPCOMING EVENTS: Trolley Museum tour will be March 10 th at 10am. Details on page 3 of Dripline. Tri-State Tune-Up at Eric Shaekel s in Sedalia April 29 th. Super Chevy Show at Bandimere Speedway August 17-18. Meeting adjourned at 10:50. Notes From Chris Klapp January 27:Errr... I just want to pause and reflect for a second. 193 days left 'til I go home! That's 27 weeks, 4632 hours, or 277,920 minutes depending on how you look at it. Chris Klapp Mid-February: I got a note from Chris correctly identifying the mystery object shown to the right which was provided by Garrie Fox. The correct answer: Pilot Bushing Guide. Chris guess was the only correct answer. Volume 36, Number 5 March 2012 Page 4
Thanks, Steve For providing your Corvair friends with a time and place to come together in Celebration of Ruth s life. Thoughts for the day On those days when you re quite pleased with yourself remember that a human has about 23,000 genes, the same number as a chicken and somewhat less than an ear of corn. Remember that every time you eat a salad a little bunny rabbit goes to bed hungry. If you think Fred Astaire had some great moves, remember that Ginger Rogers made all the same moves but backwards and in high heels. Never tie your dog up to a strange truck Financially speaking. Volume 36, Number 5 March 2012 Page 5 In spite of the Kay Jewelers ads, I believe more kisses begin with Miller Lite than Kay. Carmaraderie When an entire line of cars team up to prevent some jerk from cutting in at the front. Drivers dislike pedestrians and pedestrians dislike drivers but at least we can all despise bicyclists. Have you ever wondered what you could do with a tube of super glue and a ferret?.if you are ever asked to name your wife s favorite flower, it s best not to answer: Gold Medal All Purpose.

Tri-State in Salida 2012 By Steve Goodman The 2012 TRI-STATE will be held on May 18-20, 2012 at the Gateway Inn and Suites in Salida, Colo. Phone number for reservations is: 719-539-2895, mention "CORVAIR" for room discount please. Rates are low for the 30 blocked rooms: $60 range plus tax per night. For those who have not attended a TriState in the past: this is a low key event with emphasis placed on being able to visit with other Corvair owners, look over each others cars and not be penalized if someone is 5 minutes late. The town of Salida is probably best described as high desert, warm days and cool evenings. There is a 'traveling trophy' awarded each year to the club with the most members present. This should make each of the three clubs want to vie for that position. Also the coveted St. Francis of Corvair award is given to someone (or couple) who best exemplifies the embodiment of the world of Corvair. The TRI-STATE CORVAIR MEET was first held in 1976 and then re-generated into a yearly meet in 1986. Host duties rotate between RMC (this year s host) and PPCC (next year s host) and CNM (last year s host). In addition, Corvair members from Kansas, Oklahoma, Iowa, Wyoming, Arizona, Utah. California, and Washington State have attended.. the show 'n shine on the grounds which made good sense to me. I will list the location of the car wash in the welcome packet. Be prepared for many of the local town folks to visit the location, look at the cars and vote for their favorite as well as relate stories about the Corvair they used to own. Saturday morning promises to be enjoyable for all. Saturday afternoon is free to entertain yourselves. Driving around and looking at the scenery or shopping or just taking a nap will do. Saturday evening is the awards banquet, again the location is at the Inn, nice because everyone can walk and keep our parking spots. Awards, door prizes and the two presentations mentioned above plus the announcement of the 2013 location are all on the agenda. Sunday morning everyone arises, has breakfast and bids farewell to others until next year. If there are any questions please direct them to Steve Goodman. PH: 303.278.4889 or email: rearengine.steve@att.net The Gateway Inn is the same location the 1999 Tri-State was held in Salida, only the name has been changed and in fact the same owner from before. Almost famous! The magazine shown at left is the June 1995 issue of Motor Klassic, a German language Auto Enthusiast magazine. If you look at the next picture you ll see a somewhat familiar looking 1962 Corvair currently owned by Paul and Pat Campbell. Here s the story: In 1995, Leroy Rogers of Albuquerque was the owner.of the car and that year s Corsa Convention was held in Albuquerque. Leroy entered his car in the competition for Best Original Corvair and it WON!! As it happened a journalist from Germany was at the convention and decided to write an article about the wining car plus another original Corvair that was at the convention. Just last month, Leroy discovered the magazine article and sent it to me. Yet another reason for us to appreciate our car. ANYBODY READ GERMAN?? Volume 36, Number 5 March 2012 Page 8
