What made it fun for me was Carla, my Madam President, whose enthusiasm was almost always at 100%. When she had a problem, she knew she could talk to me. It was the same for me. I knew I could talk to her. She and the Auxiliary Sisters always had something going on. Next, I want to thank my Vice- President, Jim Haygood, who was always there to help me with special parties and projects. He always helped when I asked him and he came up with many good ideas. He really helped me a lot, as my mind has not been at its best. Thanks to Worthy Conductor Skip Columbetti and Worthy Trustee Gary Tucker, for helping me through the meetings some nights. I also want to thank Grand Worthy Inside Guard, John Noldan, who stepped in for me a couple of times and is our Aerie Auditor. To the Aerie and all our Officers, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I trust you will all continue to help our Aerie become the best in the state. Remember, our twenty five-year Anniversary is coming up. If you have been a member for five years or more, check your receipt to see how many years you have been a member. You may be eligible for a pin. The pins come for five, ten, fifteen, twenty, twenty-five and up in years. Last, to all the Brothers and others who use the social media such as Facebook, be careful of what you say. If you can t talk out your problems, at least use private messaging, so others don t know all your business. I will end this message with a Thank You and I will be around the Aerie to help, as my health permits. Worthy President, Chuck Wood

Madam President - Carla Martin Page 2 I have started this newsletter many times with pictures with thank you so I'll end it this way. North Mason Eagles Aerie #4226 May/June 2014 Newsletter Page 3 Get Ready To Celebrate!!!!!!! Hi, I m Pat Maxwell, and I m the proud chairman of our Madam President Carla Martin s Art Ehrmann Cancer Fund. This year has been fantastic. I would like to thank Sandy Ruthruff (Big Big Thank You) for all her great work and the delicious BBQ Rib dinners. Thanks to our Aerie Trustees for all their support this year. (You Brothers Rock!) All Sisters and Brothers who worked so hard to support us. (You all deserve a big pat on the back.) Thank you to all who turned in the medicine bottles, and support for all the raffles. With all your help we have raised over $3200.00. Come on out on May 2 for Madam Presidents last BBQ Rib dinner for this year. There will be door prizes every 15 minutes and the coffee will be on. God Bless You All, Art Ehrmann Cancer Fund 2013-2014 With all your help we have raised over $3200.00. Thank You, Thank You I want to thank all of the Sisters who have donated their time and home-made soups for the Monday thru Friday lunches. During the past 8 years, you have raised $27,000.00 for a suppression hood and a commercial stove. In that time you also made the money for a new refrigerator, freezer, deep fryer and many other kitchen utensils/ appliances. Plus you made it possible for us to go 50/50 with the Aerie for the sink remodel. I was told by an employee of a local restaurant that we will be the biggest and most up-todate kitchen in Belfair. You have a lot to be proud of. When you look at the hood and new stove, remember that you are one of the people who made it possible, without you we would never had accomplished so much. North Mason Eagles Aerie #4226 May/June 2014 Newsletter Page 5 A Quick Review of North Mason Eagles History The charter members will remember some of the events below. For those new to the North Mason Eagles this is a brief summary of the beginning. The original North Mason Eagles Aerie #4226 Building Our bar was stolen from the back of the van. This was a set back but it didn t stop us. Due to the dedication, commitment and hard work of a hand full of people, North Mason Eagles Aries #4426 was established. After we collected the required members to sign up to for our charter Jean McGinnis sponsored our Aerie and Susan Krough guided our auxiliary. The initial meeting was held at the fire hall. The original members were initiated at the Bremerton Eagles. As we had no permanent nest we rented the Grange Hall at the Victor cutoff Road two Tuesday evenings a month. The Grange had two rooms, a larger room which was shared by each group every other meeting so initiations could be held. It was sometimes hard to hold two meetings simultaneously without a full wall separating the rooms. We made it work. After the meetings we would break out our traveling bar, which had several kinds of alcohol stored in a box, several kinds of mixers, and cold beer housed in a cooler that traveled in the back of one of the officers van. We would pool our money to purchase the alcohol and then bought it back from the make shift bar. That way we were able to earn a little bit of money. The first big chuck hole we hit along the way was when our bar was stolen out of the back of the van. At least we still had the drink sales money to replenish the bar and continue on. It s hard to make money when you don t have your own hall. The money we earned was during the two Tuesday s a month. You can only do so many raffles and so many drinks in four hours twice a month. This is how it all started. If you go to the Website About Us you can read the details about these events and more about the struggle to acquire our current building. My son is in Jail! I guess I won t be planting a garden this year. An old man lived alone in Armagh. He wanted to dig his potato garden, but it was very hard work. His only son, Tommy, who used to help him, was in prison. The old man wrote a letter to his son and mentioned his predicament. Dear Tommy, I am feeling pretty bad because it looks like I won't be able to plant my potato garden this year. I'm just getting too old to be digging up a garden plot. If you were here, all my troubles would be over. I know you would dig the plot for me. Love, Dad A few days later he received a letter from his son. Dear Dad, 'For Heaven's SAKE, Dad, don't dig up the garden! That's where I buried the GUNS!' Love, Tommy. At 6am, the next morning, a dozen security agents and local police officers showed up and dug up the entire area without finding any guns. They apologized to the old man and left. That same day the old man received another letter from his son. Dear Dad, Go ahead and plant the potatoes now. It's the best I could do under the circumstances. Love, Tommy.
