We met at Northshore Harley at 10:00 and after some socializing and looking at Mr. Juans antique car, kick stands were up at promptly at 10:30. Road Captain Ralph Preveau led the procession of 7 bikes, 2 trikes and 1 car out of the dealership. (Sonia Fox was a little under the weather but did not want to miss the ride, so she drove her four wheels along the route.) We forged our way through traffic on Gause East to Military Road and then to Pearl River. Highway 41 welcomed us for a few miles until we arrived in Hickory where we turned left on Highway 36. A short round -about in Abita Springs brought us to the Abita Brew Pub. Karl Fox, our Chapter Photographer, gathered us for our picture. A nice lady coming out of the restaurant offered to take the picture so we could all join in. The cast of characters included Linda Bywater, Dwight Bradbury, Carol and John Minica, Dave Perez, Sonia and Karl Fox, Bob Saenz, Ralph Preveau, Susan Parrish and Judy and Bill Anderson. We then entered the restaurant with the hostess escorting us to our private room with table prepared for us. Britta Bradbury arrived with Dwight s Dad, Victor Bradbury. We were soon joined by Gwen Preveau and her friend Pam Raziano after they finished their shopping in Covington. Lara Gregg drove in from Bogalusa to visit with us and give us updates on Ray (currently in Africa). We enjoyed the good food and great conversation. Five bikes and two trikes rode out on Highway 59 South and then West on I-12 to the Albany exit. We proceeded North on Highway 43 to Highway 10 to Franklinton where we stopped for a short pit stop at McDonald s. We then travelled South on Highway 25 through Folsom, into Covington where we turned right on Highway 90, left on highway 1077 into Madisonville. Not being able to travel further without some sustenance we (Continued on page 5)

The group was joined by Joey and Pam from the Houma HOG chapter. By circumstance, they happened to be present during the meeting and accepted an invitation to join in the festivities. The rain held off until late afternoon, so the parade was dry. However, some of the riders got wet on the way home. Here of some of Karl s snapshots of the event: More follow on page 6! P A G E 3 Road Captain s Ramblings By RALPH PREVEAU On January 28, 2012, our Chapter officers had an officers meeting at NSHD. The meeting was conducted in an efficient manner and there was a lot of daylight left. Four of us (myself, Ralph Preveau, Susan Parrish, Carl Fox and Sonia Fox) decided to take a ride and enjoy the day that was left. The four of us made our decision of where to ride and headed off to the Gulf Coast. It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon, the temperature was pleasant, and the road was calling us. We headed down I-10 toward the Gulf Coast and exited at the Waveland exit. We continued down to Waveland and proceeded on to the Coast. As we got off the Bay St. Louis bridge on this beautifully, clear day we could see the Coast waiting for us. I couldn t help but think just how lucky we were to be riding in light jackets on a beautiful day like this and enjoying the sights. As we rode through Long Beach, we noticed quite a bit of activity around Shaggy s Restaurant. We saw that there was an Oyster Festival going on. There were a lot of people on the beach and attending the festival. There was also a carnival with rides for people to enjoy. Again, I thought how lucky we were to be enjoying this in January!! Our target restaurant was next on the agenda. We had decided to go to Lil Rays Seafood Restaurant in Long Beach. The address is 124 Jeff Davis Avenue. The restaurant was full of people, so we figured this must be a good place to eat and we were correct. I had a very good shrimp po boy with shrimp spilling out from the bread onto the plate it was so full. The rest of the crew enjoyed their meals also. Sonia had a grilled tuna salad and Sue had a softshell crab po boy. It was a nice little restaurant situated in a quaint section of town. There was another restaurant just up the street that we passed that we plan on checking out, as well as the BrewHouse Coffee Shop next to Lil Rays. I guess we ll be busy for a few trips. Ha ha!! After our meal, Karl Fox said he needed an emergency cup of coffee, so we struck out for Starbucks on Highway 49 in Gulfport. Again, we had a chance to ride down the Coast road and just enjoy the sights, checking out the people and the bikes that we were passing. All in all, we had a great time that Saturday afternoon. After our coffee it was around 3:30 p.m., so we decided it was time to head back, since we really didn t want to ride in the colder weather at night. We headed back on 1-10 and got back to Slidell around 4:30. We split up and went our own ways, each of us knowing we had a great day with friends, enjoyed some really good seafood, and just enjoyed being out on our bikes. Hope some of you had a great Saturday ride too. Ralph Preveau Road Captain

P A G E 4 Last Month s Minutes By PAT SCHAEFER February 4, 2012 The Northshore H.O.G. Chapter meeting portion of our monthly get together began at 9:50 AM with a prayer followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Mike Werda reminded everyone that he still has some Northshore Chapter merchandise, such as patches and T-shirts, available for purchase by Chapter members. John Clifford gave the Treasurer s Report: we have $3,140.96 in the Chapter account, a net increase of $570.00 from last month. Dwight Bradbury briefed the members on upcoming events and reminded everyone to check the Chapter website calendar frequently for any changes as they occur. Our Chapter will be sending our full quota of members to the annual Harley Officer Training (HOT!) in Mobile, AL, 15-18 March 2012. Dwight reminded everyone that we will be looking for volunteers during our March 3 get-together to assist the Chapter selling water during Mike Bruno s Bayou Thunder, on the last weekend of March. This is a lot of fun and is a major source of Chapter income. would earn a patch. Details to follow as plans develop. Dave Perez briefed everyone to stay VISIBLE when riding; as many people in the cages are too busy texting to be actively looking for you. Mike Bruno s H-D is updating their Points program. You will no longer have to present your Points Program card when making a purchase. You can make sure that you are eligible for points by checking with any Mike Bruno H-D personnel at any cash register. Points can be earned at both dealerships. The Chapter welcomed new members Jeff Cornett, Shannon Hebert, David Raymond, Glenn Semel and Robert Wilson into our Northshore H.O.G. family. There being no new business the Chapter adjourned the meeting to ride to Karl and Sonia s to watch the Krewe of Bilge Parade. Dan Schewe briefed on plans to do a ride activity to 10 historical Louisiana locations, similar to the National H.O.G. ABC s of Touring. Completion of all 10 locations

P A G E 5 (Continued from page 1) stopped at Scooters for yogurt with copious toppings. We followed Highway 190 East to Slidell and Linda turned off the route to return home. Dave soon left the ride and Bob, Judy and Bill and Carol and John departed in Slidell. Ralph and I made our way on Gause where we said goodnight and returned to our respective homes. I would ask all you ladies (and gents) to join us for future rides. If you ride your own bike, come on along and have a great time. If you are a passenger, ask your driver to join us for some great rides, good food and excellent fellowship. February 11, 2012 Ride To The Shed The day started rather gloomy, but the sun was persistent and shined brightly by departure time. We met at Bruno s and kickstands were up promptly at 10:30. Temperature was 50 degrees but the wind chill was much lower as the wind was blowing from the North at 10 to 15 miles per hour. Ralph Preveau, Road Captain Extraordinaire, led the band of 7 bikes and 1 trike to Fremeaux Avenue and East on Highway 190. We turned left on Highway 90 where the wind increased and wind chill became more of an issue. The ride to the Bay St. Louis Bridge was uneventful but I knew we were in for a surprise when I saw white caps in the bay. As we reached the pinnacle of the bridge I learned what a bobble head doll must feel like. The gusts of 30 mph buffeted bikes and helmets. The North wind had pushed the water from the beach leaving several hundred feet of Gulf bottom exposed. We saw a few hearty souls with blankets and picnic baskets braving the weather. One group roamed a large area in search of shells now visible because of the very low tide. We continued through Pass Christian and Long Beach to Gulfport where we turned North on Highway 49. Traffic was very light and trouble free. We turned West on Highway 53 and arrived at the Shed at 11:57 achieving our goal of getting to the food at noon. After a picture session we entered this quaint establishment which seemed to be a group of derelict buildings and flea market items. Our food choices varied from sandwiches to ribs all enjoyed to the utmost. Dwight Bradbury and John Clifford had prior obligations so they left the ride to return home. Ralph then led the group Northwest on Highway 53 and a turn South on Highway 603 through Kiln and West on Highway 43 to Picayune. We then joined I- 59 South to Pearl River, Louisiana where the group headed in different directions. Dave Perez, Karl Fox, Sybil and John Pons, and Bob Signs made a pit stop near the exit. Ralph and I continued South on Military Road to our respective homes. We enjoyed the ride, the company and the food. Our riding skills were challenged this day because of the wind gusts which frequently pushed cycles and helmets out of normal alignment. But, a day riding with good friends through interesting scenery is the epitome of a day well spent. I hope you can all join us next time.
