Westlake Yachting Club On the Black River Lorain, Ohio Newsletter July 2009 ANNOUNCEMENTS MEETING REMINDER WYC Trustees Meeting July 8th at 7:30 PM Location: Wheelhouse The Trustees meetings are open to every member of Westlake Yachting Club. All members are encouraged to attend. 2009 Officers & Trustee s Acting Commodore: Acting V/Commodore:Burt Bruehler R/Commodore: Acting Commodore Michael Pollock I hope the boating season is getting off to good start for everyone, we just needed some warmer weather to go with it. We have eight new active members in the last two months, so if you see a new face in the Wheelhouse introduce yourself and make them feel welcome. I would like to remind everyone that we will be having entertainment at the Wheelhouse on July 4th. We also have the Dinghy Poker Run on July 11 with live entertainment as well, so plan on attending at least one of these great events. The Wheelhouse has been very busy this year and I would like to say thanks to our members for frequenting our club and supporting it. I would like to remind everyone we have a cruise to Kelley's Island on July 17-19, so if you haven't signed up yet, hurry up to join in the fun! Acting Commodore Treasurer: Secretary: Bobby Rhodes Joyce Rhodes Acting Vice Commodore Burt Bruehler Trustee s: Robert Hilko Pat Swagger Ray Cull Jason Smith Robert Coffman Jim Sigman The cruise to Huron is over and was renamed the Bruise Cruise. Seems to be a lot of blank spots in the memories but still a great time as usual. The 4th of July is just around the corner and while you re waiting for the fireworks, why don't you stop in at the Wheelhouse. I hope everyone has a safe 4th.! Roger Kubera Power Fleet Captain Bill Arnett - Sail Fleet Captain A Boating Funny: A guy I know was towing his boat home from a fishing trip to Lake Huron when his car broke down. He didn't have his cell phone with him, but he thought maybe he might be able to raise someone on his marine radio to call for roadside assistance. He climbed into his boat, clicked on the radio and said, "Mayday, mayday." A Coast Guard officer came on and said, "State your location." "I-75, two miles south of Standish." After a very long pause, the officer asked, "How fast were you going when you reached shore?" By Mary Marineau, Henderson, Nev. NOTE: All regular & special orders need 50% down. Items in stock can be purchased Teri at the Wheelhouse or see any board member. FYI If you haven t been to been to Vermilion s Quaker Steak and Lube in the old Red Clay location, they have done a nice job adding a boating theme. Inside they have an amphicar on display, a racing speedboat among other water related items. Outside, they added a bar down at dock level where they also serve food. They have expanded the amount of river view dining by taking advantage of the location and dock space below their upper deck. It is worth checking out!.
