Day 1 Friday 19 th October 2018 - HOBART Welcome to Hobart, on arrival you will be met and transferred to one of Hobart s iconic hotels situated on the waterfront since 1846. Settle in before we meet in the hotel lounge this afternoon for a welcome glass of bubbly followed by a visit to the night markets for some shopping and sampling some delicious local dishes while we sit back watch the sunset and listen to the evening entertainment. Meals: Welcome Drink & dinner at markets Day 2 Saturday 20 th October - HOBART After a leisurely breakfast we will visit another market that is famous in Hobart, Salamanca Markets in Battery Point. You will not only have the opportunity to see the local products from fashion, jewellery, glassware and the most beautiful Huon pine work that you will be very tempted to purchase. The markets come alive with the colours, sounds and smells of Tasmania alongside the Georgian sandstone buildings of Salamanca Place as its backdrop with yachts and fishing boats moored nearby. You have free time to wander at your leisure this morning before we make our way to the Lark Distillery for some of Tasmania s finest whisky and other distilled spirits in an inviting atmosphere. The bar ranges over 150 premium malt whiskies or if you prefer there is beer, wine & cider as well as great coffees and cheese platters to enjoy. Meals: Breakfast / Tasting at Distillery & cheese platters Day 3 Sunday 21 st October - HOBART A taste of culture today ladies where we will visit one of Hobart s largest privately owned gallery and museum. The collection ranges from ancient Egyptian funerary objects to modernist masterpieces and international contemporary art. Not only does this gallery showcase amazing art, but is surrounded by a picturesque vineyard where we will visit for some wine tasting before we have a delicious lunch in the gallery. & wine tasting Day 4 Monday 22 nd October WATTLE GROVE - HUON VALLEY This morning we will make our way to one of my favourite destinations, the beautiful Huon Valley just 30 mins from Hobart and one of the best drives in the state. Passing through Wellington Range, we will arrive at Huonville and the start of the Huon Valley. We will stop at some of the cute towns on our way and also visit Willie Smiths, a family run business for generations where we will learn about apple picking and sample some of their award winning ciders. Our B&B for the next 3 nights is out of this world, wake up to the sounds of birds and the view of the Huon River where we will explore some heritage wilderness areas during our stay here. Our accommodation is in cute cabins on the property and of an evening our hosts will challenge us to a game of pool or just relax on the veranda and watch the sunset over the Huon River. / Welcome afternoon tea at B&B Day 5 Tuesday 23 rd October BRUNY ISLAND / HUON VALLEY Our host is well known for her delicious breakfast so we may not be in a hurry to make a start today, however we can t leave Bruny Island waiting now can we?? Bruny Island has some of Tasmania s most beautifully preserved natural environments with abundant wildlife and stunning views. With towering cliffs overlooking long sandy beaches we will explore the island as well as visiting the Bruny Island Cheese Co and sample some of their world famous cheeses with a distinctly Tasmanian character. We will visit the Neck and also the Cape Bruny Lighthouse first lit in 1838. Of course there is always time to eat so we will visit Get Shucked for some of Australia s best oysters with a glass of wine in hand and enjoy the views.
Day 6 Wednesday 24 th October HUON VALLEY Our host has a list of amazing local places to visit before we leave this peace of paradise so we are having a Que Sera day today and look forward to what surprise awaits us. This evening our food guru, Laiana will take us to one of the local restaurants which has the most amazing culinary delights, you won t be disappointed. A nightcap on our host s veranda this evening wondering why we have to leave but knowing we have had the opportunity to stay in this beautiful part of Tasmania. / Dinner Day 7 Thursday 25 th October TARRALEAH / STRAHAN We bid our hosts farewell and head north towards the seaside village of Strahan today stopping for lunch in Tarraleah. Tarraleah is a beautiful, award winning destination in the Central Highlands, ideally located in the heart of the Tasmanian wilderness, this quaint, historic town features stunning mountain views and charming character. We continue through the rainforest to our next destination for the day, the delightful coastal town of Strahan. Day 8 Friday 26 th October STRAHAN When you awake this morning you may smell the local bakery s daily supply of delicious breads, buns and of course great coffee so you can always visit after your breakfast at our cute cottages located along the waterfront in Strahan. Today is at your leisure and there is an abundance of things to explore in this regions perhaps a cruise on the Gordon River where you travel through Hells Gates, view salmon farms and Huon Pine sawmills or you may wish to visit the wildlife conservation facility to see the Tasmanian Devil where you can even have an evening feeding the little devils!! Day 9 Saturday 27 th October STRAHAN You can enjoy a good sleep in this morning as we don t board our Wilderness Railway journey until early afternoon. Step back in history and climb aboard a majestic steam train and journey deep into the heritage of the wild West Coast, where tales of resilience and triumph showcase the iconic local spirit. Discover how the feud of the Irishmen helped shape the rugged and isolated region and be prepared to be inspired as you step back in time with intriguing tales of the risk, emotion and suspense that helped to shape the west coast of Tasmania in the 1890 s. Day 10 Sunday 28 th October CRADLE MOUNTAIN / LAUNCESTON Our tour continues this morning through Cradle Mountain towards Launceston visiting some of the historical towns along the way. Once we reach Cradle Mountain we will take a drive through the national park to admire its natural ruggedness & beauty and explore Mother Nature at its very finest. On arrival into Launceston the afternoon is at your leisure to relax and enjoy your surrounds. Overnight: Launceston Day 11 Monday 29th October CATARACT GORGE / LAUNCESTON Cataract Gorge Reserve, or The Gorge as the locals call it, is a unique natural formation yet so close to Launceston a rare natural phenomenon in any city. Walk in the beautiful gardens and witness the peacocks wandering the grounds with you before you have the opportunity to view the Gorge from above. Your chair lift ride will take you above some amazing scenery and the slow pace of the chairlift enables you to appreciate fully and photograph the spectacular views of this ancient rock gorge. Day 12 Tuesday 30th October PYENGANA / ST HELENS On our travels to St Helens today we will stop at the village of Pyengana - a cheese-lovers haven and near some of Tasmania s most spectacular waterfalls. Nestled in a lush and fertile valley, the quiet rural village of Pyengana features some of Tasmania s most beautiful dairy country, wrapped in a forested landscape dominated by the Blue Tier section of the North East Highlands. Our very delicious lunch will be at The Pub in the Paddock where they have Priscilla, the beer drinking pig. Overnight: St Helens Day 13 Wednesday 31st October BAY OF FIRES / ST HELENS A short drive this morning we will arrive in Binalong Bay. The sight is simply jaw-dropping: the turquoise coloured ocean breaks into a breathtaking white beach fringed with huge boulders draped in iconic orange lichen. The Bay of Fires has been luring holiday makers for decades as the world s hottest travel destination. You may wish to place endless footprints along the vast stretches of perfectly white sand, or take a dip in the crystal clear waters before we head back to our hotel for our farewell dinner this evening. Overnight: St Helens / Farewell dinner Day 14 Thursday 1 st November ROSS / RICHMOND via HOBART AIRPORT We may have come to our last day on tour but we couldn t leave Tassie without visiting two of my favourite locations, reminding me a lit bit like the English country villages, Ross & Richmond. We will have a short stop at each of these cute towns for some window shopping for you to absorb the colonial history walking amongst buildings erected in Australia s earliest years. Maybe time for a stop at one of the cute tea shops along the way.
