SEMINARS Seminar 1 - Rural Water Supply 2/27/19-8-9:30 pm John Odie Odum, Chief Engineer for the South Lynches Fire Department, will discuss historical and modern facets of a Rural Water Supply program for fire protection. Seminar 2 - Fire Horses 2/28/19-3:30-5:00 pm David Lewis, fire service historian, former Curator of the Aurora Regional Fire Museum, and long time buff, will present a history of the use of fire horses. This presentation will examine the iconic fire horse, their rise, their demise, how they were bred, trained, and the lasting impact they had on the fire service. Seminar 3 - Culture, Conflict and Collaboration: A tale of change and progress in an American Fire Department 3/1/19-3:30-5:00 pm Dr. David Griffin, Ph.D., Battalion Chief in Training, Charleston Fire Department, will walk attendees through the department s recovery from two different perspectives, providing a window into how people experience tragedy, overcome differences, and work for the betterment of all.

You may get on and off the trolleys at any time and the two trolleys give you access to the museums, market, aquarium, tour to Fort Sumter, four of Charleston s fire stations, a variety of restaurants and shopping. TOURS Patriot s Point Naval and Maritime Museum/Medal of Honor Museum 2/27/19 8:30am - 3pm (Lunch on your own) Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum celebrates the greatest milestones of our nation's military history aboard the USS Yorktown. The flight deck has numerous aircraft on display and the hanger deck features exhibits and aircraft including an Apollo capsule. Moored across the pier is the USS Laffey and the USS Clamagore. On site is a recreation of a Vietnam fire base that you can walk right into. Also on board is the Congressional Medal of Honor Museum which features interactive exhibits that explain the origin of the Medal of Honor and its distinctions. Magnolia Plantation 2/28/19 10am - 3pm (Lunch on your own) Founded in 1676 by the Drayton family, Magnolia Plantation has survived the centuries and witnessed the history of our nation unfold before it from the American Revolution through the Civil War and beyond. It is the oldest public tourist site in the Lowcountry, and the oldest public gardens in America, opening its doors to visitors in 1870 to view the thousands of beautiful flowers and plants in its famous gardens. Our tour will include the following: General Admission Allow a minimum of 45 minutes for the self-guided walk through the famous Historic Garden, continually planted since 1680 s and displaying year round color. Also allow additional time to visit the Conservatory, the Petting Zoo, the Antebellum Cabin, the Orientation Theater with a 22-minute repeating video, the Horticulture Maze, and the Wildlife Observation Tower. The Nature Tram Experience history and wildlife on this action-packed tram tour of the plantation s wetlands, lakes, forests, and marshes. Naturalist guides help you spot alligators, turtles, egrets, and herons in native habitats. The tour will bring to life the true landscape and culture of the old South. With more than 600 acres of wildlife habitats and gardens, it can be difficult to see everything there is to see on foot. The nature tram allows you to view a large portion of these wonderful areas in an entertaining and educational way. Visit to Four Historic Charleston Fire Stations 2/28/19 9:00am - 3pm (Lunch on your own) Join Joey Roberts for the fire station visit of four historic Charleston Fire Department fire stations, The excursion will leave from the host hotel at 9:00 and the first station visit will be Engine Company 8, a single bay station built in 1910, From there, you will visit Engine 6 and Battalion 3. This station was built in 1888 and is a double bay station with a fire tower in the rear yard. From here, the visit will continue on foot, walking four blocks to station 4. Station 4 was built in 1943 and houses Ladder Company 4 and newly organized Rescue Company 115. From this station, you will walk about 10 blocks through the main commercial district to Engine Company 2 & 3 fire station built in 1887. This is a four bay that also houses the department historic fleet. The fleet includes a 1870 Amoskeag streamer, 1926 Ahrens-Fox, and 1948 Mack Type 45 pumper. From this location, the group will break for lunch on your own. There are three nearby restaurants (seafood, BBQ and southern cuisine) with a return to the hotel after lunch. Please be advised there will a lot of walking on this excursion. This group will be limited to 25 people on a first come, first serve basis.
