MARYLAND RETREADS Ron & Sharon Richards, Reps. Allen & Donna Droneburg Asst. Reps 618 East Main Street 7904 River Run Ct. Thurmont, MD 21788 Frederick, MD 21701 sharonrichards1959@gmail.com pad5692@gmail.com & 301-271-5031 droneburg@aol.com 240-409-6589 Volume 19 Issue 6 June 2018 May s breakfast was cloudy, and calling for showers, throughout the day, we did have 4 bikes in the parking lot. We had a total of 31 members for breakfast, so that of course brightened the day. We were supposed to have Blessing of the Bikes but because of all the rain we had on Saturday, we have postponed it until June s breakfast, so members from the CMA will be joining us for breakfast and our annual Blessing of the Bikes so we hope you can attend. A few brave souls took off after breakfast for a ride, so we hope they didn t get too wet. Let s keep our fingers crossed for June s breakfast and hope we have lots of sunshine. Augie and Lynn will be leading a ride after the Blessing. Congratulations go to Jan G. for winning the door prize. And the winners of the 50/50 were Jeff E. and Allen D. Congratulations to the winners. A Very Generous Person As our May breakfast was winding down, and everyone had their bellies filled, and enjoying conversation. Ron and I were getting ready to sell the 50/50 tickets, one of the wait staff at Mountain Gate came to me and told me that someone took care of everyone s bill that morning, and she didn t know who it was. Her boss came to her and told her to tell us that someone anonymously paid the entire bill! I in turn let everyone know that their bill had been taken care of, I didn t know who paid the bill. But we would like to say to whomever it was, Thank You from the bottom of our hearts, you are truly a special person. And one day I hope to be able to repay that person somehow, if he or she ever comes forward. Thank You Very Much from all the Retreads. Dinner Out Our Dinner Out for May was held at Mrs.. Gibbles Restaurant. Thanks to all of you who came out for a great meal and to spend time with our Retread Family. Ronnie had purchased some scratch off lottery tickets for the ladies for Mother s Day, and we did had a couple of winners. The weather going to Mrs. Gibble s was great, but upon leaving the temperature had dropped and a lot of dark clouds moved in. We hope those who rode their bikes got home before it started to rain. We hope all the ladies had a wonderful Mother s Day. Ice Cream Social Our Ice Cream Social this month was held at The Little Red Barn in Jefferson, and what a wonderful night to ride the bike, there were 15 Retreads that came out for some delicious ice cream, conversations and friendship. Thanks to all who came out and spent time together, and a big Thanks to Augie & Lynn for planning the ice cream socials. Next one will be Saturday June 30th at Trickling Springs Creamery, at 1pm. This will also be a lunch outing as well. As the riding season begins, anyone who would like to submit a paragraph or so and you can include a picture if you would like, about a ride you went on, with details as to where you were, it doesn t have to be A Retread Event please do, it might be of interest to someone else that would like to perhaps take that ride. It would also be nice for our after breakfast rides to have a short article about where we went, and what we saw, I think that would be interesting to everyone. Ron & Sharon
MD Retreads Newsletter Page 2 Mid-Atlantic Rally Well as you know the week of the Eastern PA Rally was very wet. But that didn t stop the Retreads from having a good time. There were lots of rides to choose from during the Rally, however some did get canceled because of the weather. There were a few that still went out in 4 wheels, needless to say those who went enjoyed them. Lots of ice cream and cookies, and lots of hugs from people you haven t seen since last year. For those of us who didn t go on planned rides, we did our own sightseeing and shopping, and after that there was lots of laughter and conversation in the lobby. The banquet was very nice, food was delicious as always. After the meal, it was time for announcements, Nancy introduced the speaker whose daughter and family received aid from Four Diamonds. In case you do not know what Four Diamonds is: Four Diamonds is a charitable organization based out of Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. Its ultimate objective is to "conquer childhood cancer". The fund was established in 1972 by Charles and Irma Millard following the death of their son Chris from pediatric cancer. The family that joined us for dinner, her daughter has been cancer free since 2009. This is Eastern PA s fundraiser, they have been donating to them for 27 years. Thank you Eastern PA. After the announcements, it was time for door prizes, Maryland took home their share. It was a wonderful evening. On Saturday morning, some of us took off and went to Squires Café in New Holland for breakfast, they have really good food, and Ronnie & Hal love their grilled sticky buns. Afterwards we parted our separate ways and off to do some shopping. Uno was our evening pleasure when nothing else was happening. Some took naps, some just sat and talked. Here are some photos from the relaxation in the lobby! Just beware of what someone might do to you while you are asleep. 2018 Retread Rallies Future International & other rallies being planned.
