ARRIVING BY PLANE AMERIGO VESPUCCI AIRPORT FLORENCE Florence Airport is only 5 km from the city centre. Visitors can take a taxi to the centre in just 15 minutes (for the city centre and main hotels, the flat rate is 22; 24 at weekends and on national holidays and 25 at night; for other destinations, ask the driver or check the price list in the taxi; tel. 055 4242). Alternatively, take the Vola in bus shuttle bus ( 5 one-way, 8 round trip; for more information, visit the ATAF website). GALILEO GALILEI AIRPORT PISA Pisa Airport is about 1 km from the Pisa Centrale railway station and is connected by the People Mover shuttle bus. Florence is about 1 hour away by train. GUGLIELMO MARCONI ARIPORT BOLOGNA Bologna Airport is about 50 minutes from Florence. You can reach Florence with the Appennino Shuttle www.appenninoshuttle.it BY TRAIN If you arrive in Florence at the Santa Maria Novella railway station you are already in the city centre. Piazza Stazione is also the main hub for all the different transport systems (tram, bus, taxi). The other stations in Florence are Campo di Marte and Rifredi, which both connect well with Santa Maria Novella station.
Everything you should know in order to move around by public transport in Florence Tram lines and city bus services (red and white, or blue and grey or orange buses) are the public transport in Florence. The tram line T1 connects the parking of Villa Costanza at Scandicci (suburb of the city) with the city centre and the Hospital of Careggi, in the north of Florence, passing in front of the central station Firenze SMN and the city centre. A second tram line T2 is going to connect SMN Central station to the Airport Vespucci: the service will start in February. On buses and trams you can travel only by purchasing tickets in advance (before getting on the bus or tram) from authorized sales points (bars, tobacconists and newsagents), from the ATAF hall which is inside the SMN train station or from the automatic machines which are at every tram stop. Tickets must be immediately punched in the machines, as you get on board. A 90 minutes ticket costs 1.50. You can also buy a 90' ticket by sending a sms (text: ATAF) to this number 4880105 (only for Italian SIM card). It costs 1,80. Get on board only after receiving the answer via SMS. Electric buses move in the historical centre; they also reach the pedestrian areas. There are four lines: C1 - C2 - C3 - C4; the route C1 is convenient for visiting the most important museums of Florence.
