4.1 BARRINGTON HILLS POLICE DEPARTMENT MONTHLY REPORT JANUARY 2013, MEETING (ACTIVITY FROM DECEMBER)

BHPD monthly report - SUMMARY December 2012 TRAINING: One Sergeant continues a 1O-week class for Staff and Command training. One Officer attended Mobile Field Force training. One Officer attended NIPAS training. Detectives attended MCAT training. The Deputy Chief attended a seminar on Managing Generational Differences. D.U.1. ARRESTS: Department personnel made 3 D.U.1. arrest in December. This compares to 2 for the same period last year. ALARMS: Department personnel responded to 60 Burglar Alarms, 5 Fire Alarms, 3 Trouble Alarms and 1 Hold-up Alarm. HOUSE WATCHES: Department personnel conducted 1696 house checks in December.

1. BARRINGTON HILLS POLICE DEPARTMENT December 2012 Attempted Burglary 12-987 12-31-12 Officers responded to a County Line Road alarm. On arrival, the officers observed a door that had been forced open. In checking the interior, it appeared that everything was in order and nothing was missing. Photos were taken and detectives were notified. Case is inactive pending any further information. 12-979 12-28-12 An Elgin Road business owner reported the theft of tires from his property. In viewing the video footage, the complainant believes he knows who the suspect is. The complainant is not sure if he wants to pursue charges. Case is inactive pending a decision from the owner. Damage to Property 12-953 12-986 12-12-12 A Steeplechase Road resident reported that sometime overnight, the mailbox was damaged. No one was seen in the area. 12-31-12 A Ridge Road resident reported that someone drove through the south end of the property, causing damage to the lawn. No one was seen in the area. Damage estimate is unknown. No further action taken. Driving Under the Influence 12-931 12-944 12-981 12-2-12 Officers responded to a report of a vehicle versus telephone pole crash on Oak Knoll Road. On arrival, it was determined that the driver had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on her breath. The driver was transported to the hospital for her injuries. The driver was charged with DUI. The subject was released on an I-bond and advised of the court date. 12-9-12 Officers responded to a report of a car in the ditch on Bateman Road at Route 62. In speaking with the driver, the officers smell a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. The driver failed all field sobriety tests. He was arrested and charged with DUI, DUI over.08, Improper Lane Use and No Insurance. He was issued a court date and released on bond. 12-28-12 Officers responded to the area of Route 62 and Route 68 for a reported hit and run accident. The vehicle fled westbound Route 62. In checking the area into Algonquin, the officer observed a vehicle matching the description stopped by a State Trooper at Route 62 and County Line Road. The trooper advised that as he was traveling westbound Route 62, the vehicle he had stopped, had passed him in a no passing zone. The driver had a strong odor of

2. an alcoholic beverage on his breath. The driver failed all field sobriety tests. He was arrested and charged with DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and disobeyed no passing zone. The driver was held for bond court. Hit and Run 12-976 12-23-12 Officers responded to a property damage accident at County Line and Bateman Roads. One driver fled the scene. An ISPERN message was dispatched to surrounding jurisdictions with the offending vehicle description. A Carpentersville officer recognized the vehicle description from a previous contact. In checking the area, he located the offending vehicle and driver. The driver was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, no insurance and leaving the scene of an accident. Case is pending a court appearance. No DL I Suspended DL 12-940 12-945 12-938 12-985 12-7-12 An officer effected a traffic stop for speeding on Penny Road near Pond Gate Drive. A check of the driver revealed he did not have a valid license. The driver was arrested, cited given a court date. 12-9-12 An officer effected a traffic stop for speeding on County Line near Caesar Drive. A check of the driver revealed that he did not have a valid license. The driver was arrested, cited given a court date. 12-4-12 While on patrol in the area of Route 62 and Route 59, an officer observed a vehicle and ran the license plate. The vehicle registration was suspended. A traffic stop was effected. A check of the driver's license indicated it was also suspended. The driver was arrested and cited for OWLS, suspended registration and no insurance. A court date is pending. 12-31-12 While on patrol in the area of Route 62 and Brinker Road, an officer observed a vehicle in which he believed the windows were tinted too dark. A traffic stop was effected. A check of the driver's license indicated that it was suspended. The driver was arrested and cited for OWLS, equipment violation and no insurance. A court date is pending. Harassment 12-977 12-24-12 A Haegers Bend Road resident reported that they were being harassed by phone from a former patient. The officer attempted to contact the offender and left a message to stop any further contact. No further action taken at this time.

3. Domestic 12-949 12-11-12 An officer responded to a Braeburn Road residence for a delayed domestic incident, a verbal argument. They are in the process of divorcing. There was no physical contact. The complainant requested that the incident be documented. House Checks 12-929 12-933 12-2-12 While checking a home on house watch, an officer discovered an unsecured door. The home was checked and secured. 12-3-12 While checking a vacant home on house watch, an officer discovered an unsecured door. The building was not able to be secured. Civil Problem 12-946 12-961 12-9-12 A Cuba Road resident advised that he had some plumbing done by a contractor that he found on Craig's List. The complainant advised that he had to have the plumber return a second time and he was concerned when the plumber came back, that there might be a problem. The home was placed on an extra watch. The complainant was advised that any problem with the work completed was a civil matter. 12-17-12 A Windrush Lane resident advised that she had an order from the court that her estranged husband was to relinquish a vehicle to her. In reviewing the order, the officer advised that her estranged husband had 72 hours to relinquish the vehicle. If the vehicle is not relinquished in 72 hours, the only thing the police could do is document the incident and her attorney would have to take it back to court. No further action taken. Vehicle Lockout 12-926 12-971 12-1-12 An officer responded to an Oak Knoll Road residence for a vehicle with the leys locked inside. Entry was gained. No further action taken. 12-21-12 An officer responded to a Windrush Lane residence for a vehicle with the leys locked inside. Entry was gained. No further action taken. 12-963 12-18-12 keeping. Other Public Service A resident turned over firearms to BHPD for temporary safe

4. Burglar Alarms 12-937 12-948 12-978 12-984 12-4-12 While checking a County Line Road burglar alarm, an officer located an unsecured door. There were also HVAC people on site. The home was unable to be secured. Messages were left for the homeowner. 12-10-12 While checking a County Line Road burglar alarm, an officer located an unsecured door. The home was secured and the homeowner was notified. 12-24-12 While checking an Oak Knoll Road burglar alarm, an officer located an unsecured door. The home was secured. 12-30-12 While checking a Creekside Lane residence, an unsecured door was located. The home was secured and the key holder was notified. Open Door 12-980 12-28-12 While checking a business on Route 25, an officer located an unsecured door. The business was checked and the key holder notified. This occurred two consecutive nights. Citizen Assist 12-983 12-30-12 A Brinker Road resident reported a vehicle missing. The complainant advised that the vehicle was awarded to her in a divorce settlement and had not been relinquished to her. The officer advised her the incident was civil. In subsequent follow-up, the officer was advised that the vehicle had been relinquished to her. No further action taken. Warrant Service 12-951 12-12-12 An officer responded to Sleepy Hollow PO to pick up a subject on our warrant as well as McHenry County Sheriff's Department. The subject was processed and posted bond on both warrants. Case is pending a court appearance. Task Force Activity 12-939 12-7-12 The NIPAS EST was activated at the request of Round Lake Beach PO in reference to a warrant service. The warrant was served without incident. Three subjects were taken into custody. Driving Complaint 12-968 12-19-12 Officers stopped a vehicle on Route 59 as a result of a driving complaint of the vehicle swerving into oncoming traffic. The subject advised that he had taken some new medication and was having trouble driving. A family member was contacted and responded to the scene to drive him home.

5. Identity Theft 12-954 12-13-12 A resident contacted BHPD to advise that he had received a letter from social security stating that his son's benefits would be suspended due to his employment. He advised that his son didn't work and never has due to a disability. Information on the employment of where his son's social security number was being used was turned over to investigations for follow-up. Detectives have gone to each employment location in attempt to locate the offender. To date, they have not located the offender. The investigation continues. Animal Incidents 12-957 12-928 12-934 12-14-12 An Otis Road resident reported that while he was trying to separate his dog and his roommate's dog when they began to fight, he was bitten by his dog accidentally. He was transported to Good Shepherd for medical treatment. He was also advised of the required 10-day confinement and veterinary check. No further action taken. 12-1-12 A poodle was picked up in the area of County Line Road and Bateman Road. The dog was transported to Golf Rose Kennel pending owner identification or adoption. 12-3-12 A fax was received regarding concern of lack of medical treatment for animals in a shelter on Old Dundee Road. The officer visited the location in question and did not observe any obviously sick or injured pets, in his opinion. All the animals had food, water and shelter and appeared fine. Contact was made with the complainant and explained the findings. No further action taken. BHPD Officer Firing Weapon 12-947 12-952 12-10-12 An officer responded to a Hills and Dales Road residence for a report of an ill raccoon. The raccoon was terminated and disposed of. No further action taken. 12-12-12 An officer responded to the area of Ridge Road and Oak Knoll Road for a report of an ill raccoon. The raccoon was terminated and disposed of.
