Circumnavigation of Newfoundland Detailed Itinerary Nov 13/18 Starting and ending in historic St. John s, this trip offers an intimate experience of Newfoundland s lively culture and dramatic scenery via daily expedition stops and community visits. A visit to the French island of Saint-Pierre completes the adventure. Famed for its music and stories, Newfoundland is also incredibly picturesque, with a rugged coastline rendered spectacular by autumn foliage and light. The flavors of the province come to life in the fall, with fresh fish and homemade confectionery as the hallmark of any gathering. Newfoundland s rich natural history, including the remarkable geology of Gros Morne, is second only to its incredible cultural offerings. We will visit Red Bay s Basque Whaling Station (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), learn about the Viking history in North America at L Anse aux Meadows National Historic Site, and enjoy a taste of the Mi kmaq culture in Miawpukek First Nation (Conne River). And we will do it all in the company of a lively resource staff of local musicians, artists, and naturalists. This sailing is ideally timed for viewing spectacular fall Facts & Highlights 11 Days Start and finish in St. John s All meals on board included Travel aboard the Ocean Endeavour Explore the phenomenal landscapes of Gros Morne National Park Share the warmth of a classic Newfoundland kitchen party Hear traditional stories and songs from our talented leaders Learn about Mi kmaq culture in Miawpukek Get a taste of Europe on the island of Saint-Pierre, France Dates & Prices (2019 / 2020, USD) Oct 02 - Oct 12, 2019 Jun 26 - Jul 06, 2020 Triple Cabin - $4995 / $5595 Interior Twin - $6395 / $6995 Exterior Twin - $7695 / $8295 Main Twin - $8895 / $9595 Comfort Twin - $10095 / $10895 Top Deck Twin - $11295 / $12195 Superior Twin - $12595 / $13495 Junior Suite - $13895 / $14795 Suite - $15195 / $16095 Activity Level: 1 Comfort Level: Seas can be rough. colors and taking advantage of excellent hiking opportunities. Experience legendary music, food, and hospitality in true Newfoundland fashion: by sea! This is not an ElderTreks operated tour. As such, participants on this tour are not exclusive Elder- Treks clients and it may not adhere to ElderTreks maximum size restrictions of our tours. ador red bay gros morne NP l anse aux meadows newfoundland miawpukek NORTH EAST COAST st. john s Day 1 St. John s, Newfoundland Welcome to St. John s Newfoundland s historic, vibrant capital. Picturesque and welcoming, with a world-famous harbor, St. John s has been continually fished since 1498, allowing it to boast the designation of North America s oldest European settlement. south coast st. pierre, france We will offer an optional afternoon city tour to those interested. Afterwards, we will rendezvous at the docks and board the Ocean Endeavour to begin the adventure proper. Passengers will meet the staff and crew, and prepare to leave the harbor. Sailing out of St. John s has to be experienced to be believed; Signal Hill keeps watch over the world-famous Narrows as we head for open water. Day 2-3 Northeast Coast The northeast coast of Newfoundland is known for the dozens of picturesque villages that dot its rocky shores, and we ll find harbour in one of these unique communities. We look forward to a characteristically warm Newfoundland welcome upon our arrival. Photographers will have their work cut out for them capturing the special charm of classic island architecture www.eldertreks.com 2

Day 4 L Anse Aux Meadows A UNESCO World Heritage Site, L Anse aux Meadows is the only authenticated former Norse settlement in North America. The archaeological remains found here in 1960 date to approximately 1000 AD. Amazingly, the location of the ruins was first established by a close reading of the Viking sagas. Today, a superb interpretive center and reconstructions of the several Norse-style sod buildings make L Anse aux Meadows a must-see for any visitor to Newfoundland. Day 5 Red Bay Red Bay Basque Whaling Station became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2013. Basque whalers operated out of the Red Bay harbor in the 1500s: North America s first export industry. The interpretation center at Red Bay is excellent. Here we find tools, personal items, and navigational instruments recovered from the wreck of the whaling ship San Juan. The ship was lost in a storm in 1565 and found centuries later submerged in the harbor. Day 6 Woody Point / Gros Morne National Park Gros Morne is internationally famed for its geographic diversity and majesty. The park s mountains are both picturesque and highly unusual: the Tablelands, a 600-metre plateau, forms one of the world s best examples of ancient rock exposed from the Earth s mantle. The park s fjords are equally stunning, and the town of Woody Point has become widely renowned for its annual Writers Festival. There will be a choice of walks catering to all levels of skill and interest as we explore the surrounding area. The beauty of Bonne Bay will surely be a highlight, as will the subtle charms of Woody Point. Days 7-8 South Coast The wild and windswept coast of southern Newfoundland is home to a few remaining outport communities, still largely cut off from mainstream travel. There are many choices of unique bays and coves to explore via Zodiac or land excursions. The geology is outstanding, and plant life is gorgeous here. We ll be on the watch for wildlife too. We ll make the most of every chance to explore this beautiful and remote coast. Day 9 Miawpukek (Conne River) The First Nations community of Miawpukek (Conne River) has an economically self-sufficient mandate, guided by traditional values. It became a permanent settlement sometime around 1822. Before then, it was one of many semi-permanent camping sites used by the Mi kmaq people who were, at the time, nomads travelling throughout the east coast. Since its establishment as a reserve in 1987, Miawpukek s employment rate has increased from 10% to nearly 100% and Indian and Northern Affairs often reference the community as a model for other First Nations. We will receive a formal welcome into the community and meet the locals, with the help of community leaders. Day 10 Saint-Pierre, FR Explore Saint-Pierre, a last bastion of France s colonial territories in North America. The colorful and charming shops and residences of the town of Saint- Pierre reveal its unique historical character. French food, wine, clothing, and culture are all on offer here. The sweets at the local cafes and bakeries are in high demand. Saint-Pierre offers a taste of European living, just a short sail from the coast of Newfoundland! 3 www.eldertreks.com

Day 11 St. John s, Newfoundland On the final day of our expedition, we sail though the historic Narrows and into St. John s harbor. We will say our farewells and begin the process of departure. Staff will be on hand to assist you with luggage and transportation arrangements. www.eldertreks.com 4

Questions & Answers 1. How big are the groups? The Ocean Endeavour is a 198 passenger vessel. On board you will also have between 10 to 15 resource staff. 2.what is included in the tour price? From day 1 to disembarkation meals, entrance fees, and accommodations are included. 3.what is not included in the tour price? International & charter flights, tips, Discovery Fund fee of ($250USD). Personal expenses like alcoholic beverages, telephone calls, internet & laundry are not included and put onto their ship board account which is payable in USD the night prior to disembarkation. Ships crew gratuities are not included, we suggest between $10-$14 per day per passenger.this goes into a lump sum and distributed to the entire crew equally. 4.what is the Discovery Fund? The Discovery Fund is the result of committed passengers longing for a way to give back to the regions they have visited during their expeditions. Our local supplier has made a point to support local organizations and groups focusing on the environmental, cultural and educational needs of each region you will visit. Our local supplier, in cooperation with their friends in the North, assess where the demand is the greatest and supports each cause through monetary donations. Each passenger who travels with our local supplier donates an additional $250 USD to ensure the longevity and success of the initiatives in these regions. Throughout the voyage you will see some of the projects that we have funded over the years. Your donation goes a long way and helps ensure that many of these important organizations, many at the grassroots level, are able to carry on. Most of these local initiatives do not have charitable status and thus do not have the ability to issue tax receipts. If it is essential for you to obtain a tax receipt for your donation, the local supplier will send your portion to an organization which has this capability. 5. Are these educational tours? Yes, in the broadest sense of the word, educational. We visit museums and local villages. We also have talks and discussions on many aspects of the history and culture Newfoundland, but this is only one aspect of what we do. We believe that it is equally educational to meet new people on a non- commercial basis. Sometimes the most educational moments are spent having a cold drink with the locals. 6. How do we travel during the tour? We cruise on our vessel and often use zodiac s for our adventure excursions. 7.what are our accommodations like? All cabins aboard the ship are outside cabins with private bathrooms. The ship has advanced communications and navigation equipment, and newly installed, state-of-the-art Sperry Gyrofin stabilizers. 8.what about the weather? We travel to Newfoundland during their spring and summer season. In general, Newfoundland can experience temperatures between 50-70 F (10-20 C). 9. when is payment due? A non-refundable deposit of $1500 USD (plus insurance if you desire it) is due as soon as you decide to go and will reserve your place on the tour. The balance of the land payment is due 150 days before departure. Cancellation charges are applicable and these are outlined in the Terms & Conditions section of our brochure. 7 www.eldertreks.com

10. Is medical insurance required? Insurance coverage is not included in the cost of your trip. Please note that medical insurance is required for this adventure with a minimum of $75,000 coverage for evacuation insurance, including air ambulance. We strongly recommend cancellation and interruption insurance as well! ElderTreks offers comprehensive travel insurance and we are happy to provide you with a quote if you call our office. If you are purchasing insurance elsewhere, please ensure you provide the details to ElderTreks as soon as possible. 11. what meals are included? All meals are included, starting with dinner on day 1 and finishing with breakfast on departure day. 13. can you arrange my flights? We would be happy to take care of your air arrangements. ElderTreks offers personalized flight itineraries, not group flights. Stop over enroute, come in a few days early, or extend your stay. Call us for a customized itinerary. 14. what if I would like more information? If you have any further questions about the adventure, please call our office for more details. A Trip Specialist will be happy to answer your questions. A Trip Kit containing further details on the destination will be sent to you once you have booked the trip. 12.what should I take on the tour? There is a detailed What to Take list in our Trip Kit, which we will send to you after you have booked the trip. www.eldertreks.com 8
