Ride Stories Jan and I were invited by some friends to Talihina, OK to do the Talimena Scenic Drive. We had two of the expected riders cancel because of the potential for rain. We did not, in fact it did not rain on us all the way to Talihina although we had some drizzle at various locations but not enough to put on the rain gear. The ride to Talimena Scenic Drive was foggy and it did rain until the tail end of the ride, in fact we couldn't see very well because of the fog and rain combination so we stopped at the East End visitor center just prior to arriving in Mena, Ark. It was a better drive back to Talihina with less rain but the fog stayed with us until prior to arriving in Talihina. The ride back to Hico was drizzle all the way until we got to Meridian. The ride was beautiful with the fall colors and fog combination. We had to stop once because a black bear was in the middle of the road. It finally moved but we didn't have enough time to pull cameras to take pictures. Oh, I failed to mention, I had a rear tire flat en route just prior to arriving in Greenville, Texas and I have to give credit to the bike's on board tire pressure monitor that alerted me and we pulled over safely. We contacted our road side service and the tow took us to Rockwall, Texas Honda dealer and I purchased two new tires. This took about 3 hours out of our trip, otherwise the trip was safe. We left Hillsboro, Texas on IH 35 E then took 34 Nth to 24 North to 271 North to Talihina, OK. VIC

TALIMENA Run Chapter P and M Ride To Boo Rays, Weatherford HOW NOT TO ATTEND THE BIKES BLUES & BBQ RALLY Jean and I were within 30 miles of our campground, when suddenly, all of the traffic in front of us came to a halt. I hit my brakes, but with the weight of the camp trailer behind me, I could see that we were going to hit the back of the pickup in front of us. I tried to swerve to the left to avoid the truck, and the next thing I was aware of was sliding down the asphalt on my helmet and left shoulder. After sliding 15 or 20 feet, I rolled another 10 feet before coming to a stop. I leaned on my right elbow and saw that Jean was lying on her stomach next to me. She slid on her face watching the pavement go by before rolling up beside me. After dumping us, the bike got up and rolled another 200 feet down the road before coming to a stop. Neither the bike nor the camper hit another vehicle. We spent the next five days in the hospital before our daughter brought us home. A CMAer from Arlington brought a trailer and took our bike and camper back home. Jean had both wrists broken, one a compound fracture and the other crushed. I had five broken ribs and a broken shoulder blade. We have only one good hand between us, so it has been extremely difficult to do even the most mundane, every day tasks. Our daughter and my brother have come to help us do some of the things we can no longer do. Bob Whan brought us some great food from Olive Garden and Dan & Rebecca Jones, with the Koinonia Riders, brought us some great BBQ. Ray & Barbara also brought us some very tasty chicken and vegetables. We missed the rally, but we are very fortunate to have the love and support of good friends and fellow riders. We love and appreciate all of you. Joe & Jean Jones

Swifty s is a new sponsor of Chapter P. Ray and I went by and visited with the owner Eric Swift this week. We thought it would be nice to go and see the sponsor s of Chapter P and give a short write up of what they do. The name for Swifty s wasn t hard to come up with because the owner is Eric Swift. Eric worked for Cycle Gear 8 years and also worked in the corporate office. Eric opened his business March 2012, he is a mechanic and has Nate Daniels that works with him part time. The counter person is Chris Ables. We talked and visited with all of them and they are real cool guys. Eric works on all bikes no matter what year or name brand the bike is. Eric is married and has a 13 year old daughter and they live in Cleburne. Eric has ridden bikes for 33 yrs. He rides enduros two times a month, Road Race w/ CMRA, Endurance sprints. His shop carries most items you need for your bike and if he doesn t have it he can get it within 24 hours. He has competitive prices on tires. He also does special orders. Eric rides a 1981 Gold Wing 1100 CHOPPER that he has custom made for himself. You need to see it to believe it. Eric likes to make custom bikes. Look for a future article from Eric on his chopper. Again we want to wish him well in his new adventure, and thanks again for his sponsorship of Chapter P.
