Call for entries
Introduction -Koelnmesse is organising the exhibition and a "vision garden P.O.S." competition and award for students. -Social change and the use of new technology and materials are having an increasing impact on our living spaces and everyday activities. This calls for new approaches in terms of architecture and design. Taking the slogan "vision garden P.O.S. - Sales in the future", this year's inaugural competition calls on entrants to submit architecture studies and design trends for tomorrow's point of sale. -For "vision garden P.O.S." at spoga+gafa 2006, students from colleges of architecture and design around the world are personally invited and encouraged to submit their visionary designs, objects or spatial concepts in the categories of architecture and shop fittings.
Task -The "vision garden P.O.S" competition will be included in the spoga+gafa supporting programme for the first time in 2006. Since an all-encompassing presentation of an entire garden centre would cover the topic in depth in 2006 alone, plans call for different product areas to be covered each year. - In 2006, the "vision garden P.O.S." will address garden technology in the form of a garden centredepartment or a specialist retailer's store. -Through the "vision garden P.O.S.", Koelnmesse aims to provide the international trade visitors, many of whom run their own stores, with ideas on how to present their products to customers in an appealing way and therefore generate added turnover.
Applications and submissions -Individual students or groups of university/college students can submit a project description for the competition. If selected, the project can be presented on a free-of-charge area in a busy part of the trade fair. -Koelnmesse will invite the entrants with the best projects worldwide to present these projects to the international trade visitors at the "vision garden P.O.S." at spoga+gafa 2005, as a model scaled at 1:50. -Those colleges/students selected will be sent further information on preparing for the exhibition, the prize-giving ceremony and the schedule of spoga+gafa.
Entry documents -A project description of the planned model and brief information about the college/group/class must be submitted, including the contact details of the lecturer in charge (max. five A4 pages). Printed documents Files on CD-ROM -Paper: PDF format -Animations: Microsoft PowerPoint -Videos: WMA format -List of participating students, incl. name and address of the contact person, and a declaration of participation from the college. -List of documents submitted.
Selection and awards process - All entries will undergo a preliminary assessment between 15th June (deadline for entries) and 30th June 2006. - The entries remaining following the preliminary assessment will be discussed and evaluated by a panel of international experts on the day before spoga+gafa opens. The panel will comprise design and architecture experts, representatives of renowned international trade publications, representatives of the garden trade and industry, and members of relevant associations. The evaluation categories are: degree of innovation, architecture/design, functionality, degree to which the entry meets the competition profile, comprehensibility of the design, and overall presentation. Prizes will be awarded to the three best entries. - Cash prizes will be awarded as follows: First place 1,500, second place 1,000, third place 500. - TASPO Gartenmarkt and Garden Retail, the leading trade publications for garden centres and the specialist trade, will report on the project as a whole and the three prize-winning entries (at least).
