Well March is coming and Spring is on the way but unfortunately we still have all this snow, hope it goes away sooner than later! We had our first Road Captains meeting a few weeks ago and were able to get some rides down on the calendar for the upcoming season beginning in May. We left the month of April blank on the calendar because of the snowy winter we have had and thought that we could always throw in a last-minute ride if the road conditions allow. We still have plenty of open dates that we hope to see filled by some other members so hopefully some of you have a ride idea you would like to share with the chapter even if it's a destination ride for lunch to one of your favorite stops. The Road Captains meeting was directly followed by our monthly social which had been cancelled earlier in the week due to the snow storm, the social was lightly attended but still enjoyable. Justen gave us an excellent video presentation of his and Mi Yong's ride out to Niagara Falls they made last year, super nice job Justen! I remind our members that the Iron Adventure is being held in Ludlow this year in July from the 18th-20th, hotel accommodations have become very limited but there are options available if you are interested in spending a few nights during the event, I encourage our members to attend as well as register for the event through the National H.O.G. website. I hope to see to a full house at the March 12th social and even though Valentine s Day has come and gone, we will still be raffling off the Vermont Teddy Bear which we had planned for last month s social, it's a cutie! Stay positive, riding season will get here and we have waited this long for it so don't get too discouraged having to wait just a little extra this year. Joel Activities Director Justen Elliott Greetings All F E B R U A R Y 2 0 1 9 Things are happening, We've already had an Officer's meeting to plan out the schedule for Chapter meetings throughout the year. Last Saturday Feb. 16th we held our first Road Capt's meeting of the year, followed by a Saturday Chapter meeting. If you are interested in becoming a Road Capt. for 2019 please see Ben. I want to thank Linda for setting up our Chapter volunteer day at the Foodbank, if you missed this one Linda has another one set up in April. (Please see Linda for the details) At our Saturday Chapter meeting MiYong and I shared a story on our bike trip we took to Niagara Falls & Seneca Lake, NY. I'm still looking for members to share stories of their rides and adventures at our Chapter meetings throughout the year. If interested please let me know, we would enjoy hearing about it. Many of us will be going to the Ice Castles and then spending the night in Lincoln,NH on March 2nd. I am always looking for ideas on fun activities for the Chapter. If you have an idea let me know, and we can work on making it happen. Wednesday March 20th is Spring Equinox 'First day of spring' we are getting closer. SADDLE UP LET'S RIDE

Vee Twin Rumblings VOLUME 32 ISSUE 2 Central Vermont H.O.G. Chapter #5218 Page 3 Chapter Historian Marie Boutin Last month when we were getting lots of snow, a friend was having problems with his snowblower. We thought they should make one with a Harley Davidson engine. Wait, I remember seeing one of those before! September 2013 a group of us were on a motorcycle trip, we were on our way home from New Orleans. We had just crossed through the beautiful state of Tennessee and now were in North Carolina. It was in the afternoon and our leader, Joe wanted to make it to Maggie Valley before 3:00. There was lots of road construction and we were doubtful that we would make it and we didn t know where we were going. We finally arrived at Wheels through Time, The Museum that Runs in Maggie Valley, NC just 5 miles off the Blue Ridge Parkway (our destination tomorrow). It is a museum with a vintage collection of all- American motorcycles and automobiles. Nearly all the motorcycles and cars on display are operational due to the hard work of owner and curator, Dale Walksler. When Dale found out we had just rode in, he introduced himself and gave us a guided tour of the museum. Along the way he even started a vintage motorcycle for us. The collection of motorcycles include: Harley Davidson, Indian, Excelsior, Henderson, Pope, Yale, Crocker, Flying Merkel and many more. There are many different exhibits, a few of them are: Hillclimb Hill a realistic hill scattered with hill climbing bikes like Harley Davidson, Indian and Excelsior made from 1928 to 1949. Military Might HD and Indian both contributed motorcycles to the war efforts starting in 1941. There is a whole display of these. Home Made America Throughout the 20th Century, home made machines were invented using motorcycle engines. Some of these included: snowblowers, ice saws, snowmachines and airplanes! These are just a few of the exhibits! The museum was closing and we asked for recommendations for lodging that night. Dale said he knew of a great place and he would lead us there. He pushed out an old Henderson from the museum, kick started it and lead us down the street, it was a real treat! We wished we could have stayed longer but the time we were there was awesome! If you are ever in this area, you should stop and check it out! Minutes of February Social, held on Saturday Feb 16th instead of Feb 12th (due to bad weather) A small group of people met upstairs at Wilkins on the morning on Saturday, February 16th for our February Social. The regularly-scheduled date of Tuesday the 12th was predicted to have a snow event so our director, Joel DeLary rescheduled it to the following Saturday. Director Joel DeLary started the meeting at 10:41 with the Pledge of Allegiance. Head Road Captain, Ben Drury, reported that several rides had been put on the schedule for 2019 at the first Road Captains meeting just prior to the social. Joel mentioned that we are still looking for a variety of rides to add to the schedule they can be short or long distance rides (including overnights). A couple of rides involving an overnight have already been discussed, including one to Bentley s Saloon in Maine, and a repeat of the ride to Canada, where people enjoyed the Go-Cart track. Our originally scheduled February Social was to have a Valentine s Day theme and a Valentine Teddy Bear had been purchased to be raffled off. It was decided that this will be done at our March Social rather due to low attendance at the Saturday February Social. Membership Officer, Linda Lamell, reported that our next volunteer day at the Vermont Foodbank will be April 13th. She also mentioned that quite a few 2018 members have not yet renewed their membership for 2019. Activities Director, Justen Elliott, reported that the Chapter had a table at Wilkins Chili Cook-off event and raised $99 for the Chapter through a 50/50 raffle. The Ice Castle overnight event is still on for March 2nd. Treasurer Tom Moore reported that we have $1850 in the Chapter account. He is now receiving statements from the bank, so he is all set to keep track of our finances. Justen Elliot did a presentation on a trip he and MiYong took to Niagara Falls and Seneca Lake in 2017, complete with video clips and photos. They headed out on their trip in late July, immediately after the Iron Adventure Run in Lincoln, NH. They planned to head toward the wine region of the finger lakes in New York and Niagara Falls. The Fox Run Vineyard, in Penn Yan NY, was on the list of specific places to visit. (Fox Run Vineyard hosts a Garlic Festival each year in early August.) They started out going toward Lake George NY, and then took a scenic route from Lake George to Utica. Their travels took them through Rochester and Buffalo. Justen highly recommends stopping in at the EDICK-HAMLINK V.F.W. Post 369 if anyone is ever in the area of Mexico, NY. A couple of eateries he recommends checking out are the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, NY (the purported birthplace of Buffalo wings) and My Cousin Vinny s Italian Grill in Niagara Falls, Ontario. MiYong and Justen stayed on the Canadian side of the falls because there is a lot to see and do there: Ripley s Believe It or Not Oditorium, including Louis Tussaud s Waxworks; tours of Horseshoe Falls; after-dark light shows; and more. They visited two Harley-Davidson dealerships, and had a new tire put on the bike at the dealership in Brunswick. What an interesting presentation...now the winter weather needs to move on and let us get ready for riding weather! (submitted by Linda Lamell)
