Brain Teaser 10. Studebaker Corral 13. New Membership Form Events 7. March Meeting Details 8. Studebaker Calendar Tech Topic Engine Won t Start. Getting Spark? Tip to check if there is going to be a spark or not: 1- Remove a spark plug wire. 2 - Insert a paper clip into the plug socket - A 3 - Hold wire on the insulation. 4 -Have someone crank the engine over. 5 - Hold the wire so that the paper clip is near a metal surface. B There must be a small gap between. If there is a good spark, then look elsewhere for the problem as to why the engine will not start. Did you know that approximately 90% of all electrical problems are due to a bad ground? A good tip for this problem is to add more ground straps. The best way to fasten these is to use an internal/external lock washer. Internal or external washers are easy to find, but an internal/external on the same washer is a lot harder to find. The above technical topic was taken from a column called Odds N Ends written especially for SDC newsletter editors by Pete Yuen, retired newsletter editor. STUDEBAKER NATIONAL MUSEUM UPDATE The Museum's incredibly popular exhibition Ten Cars that Changed the World closed on February 3. This exhibition sparked some fantastic conversations about how a car becomes more than a form of transportation and changes the world. Many thanks to the Society of Automotive Historians for their collaboration with this exhibition. The next exhibition opening at the Museum explores one of the most important trends in automotive styling. Streamlined: Style in Motion will highlight one of the most iconic and beautiful automobile design languages, that of streamlining. Featuring a range of automobiles, many with Studebaker ties, this exhibit will explore how these designs came to be and the difference between European and American takes on this distinctive style. - 2 -

Terry thanked our host Richard Hickok for arranging the meeting at this location. Ed Burris moved, Richard Hickok seconded, to approve the minutes of the January meeting, as reported in the February Hillholder. Motion carried. Approval of the treasurer s report was deferred until next month since there was no treasurer report in the February Hillholder. Terry Ziemer congratulated club members celebrating birthdays or anniversaries in the month of February. Reports Barbara Miller, Treasurer, provided reports for the months of December and January. See page 3 of this Hillholder for details. Brenda Bodkin, Membership Secretary, collected dues for the year 2019 from a number of members and introduced some new members. Announcements / New & Old Business: Wayne Lee provided an update on plans for a 2020 national meet near Chattanooga, TN. A logo and t-shirts are in the process of being designed. Joe Flannery is looking into the possibility of having a drag race on the final day of the meet, to be held at a drag strip near the meeting location. Dates are August 5 through 8, 2020. Keep in mind that this year s national meet will be held in Mansfield, Ohio, on September 11 through 14. Wayne and Terry Ziemer provided a summary of their recent trip to Cuba. They reported that they had a great time and all of those vintage cars were quite a sight to see. Wayne Lee reported that the Coker Tire Company s annual Chattanooga Cruise-In will be held at Camp Jordan this year, the same venue as the 2020 Studebaker meet is planning to be held. Date of the cruise-in is March 29. Adjournment: President Terry Ziemer adjourned the meeting at 3:00 PM. Door prizes were generously provided by our host, Rich Hickok. But here s a question for you: Was the manufacture of Jeeps limited to the United States, or did other countries get involved, too? If you think the latter, then about how many other countries do you think might have taken part in the manufacture of Jeeps? Answer and discussion coming next month. - 8 -

Contact Sharon Stone: herewegoyoga@gmail.com Four 6" steel wheels to fit Studebaker- $200 Running modern radial tires on 5-1/2 Studebaker wheels is DANGEROUS. Anything wider than a 195/75R15 (a VW Beetle tire) stresses the wheels more than they ever were designed for, causing them to flex, and eventually fail. Migration of full wheel covers around the wheel, or losing wheel covers while driving can be a symptom of wheel flex. I bought these wheels from Dan Miller when he was selling them for $75 each about 20 years ago to put on my Avanti, but I went another route on that car. These have been gathering dust in my garage since then, and I would like them to go to a good home. Call Chuck Lampman at (770) 926-7142 or (404) 483-5380, or email to chuck@lampman.com. - 11 -
