Ken Ottoson introduced speaker Allan Holender, founder and General Manager of Peachland's first radio station. The station was nominated for two awards of Business Excellence in 2014. Allan is a member of Peachland Rotary Club and the Chamber of Commerce. Allan has been passionate about and involved in radio since the age of ten when he broadcast to his mother by way of a speaker in their kitchen. Allan co-founded AM650 in Richmond BC and web radio networks including Media on Tap, Positive World Radio Network, conscious Planet Radio and Peachland Radio.com. Peachland Radio is a small radio station in a small town, Allan drew inspiration from radio KBHR 570AM from the TV show Northern Exposure. It is the first independent all digital online radio station in Canada. AM and FM radio are in jeopardy, the
terrestrial stations have to apply for a licence to broadcast. Digital radio requires no licence. The online radio world is growing fast, a station can be on air within weeks, it needs no tower and no start-up capital. Peachland Radio started in December 2013 with Christmas music. The average age of Peachland residents is 54, in the winter many travel south and in summer the population is greatly increased by tourists. Peachland Radio is available to everyone with an internet connection. The station is involved in community events and is planning a Jazz Festival and outdoor movie event for next year.
