REPORT In the period of 24/25 of May 2012 in Opatija, Croatia, 12 th International Foundrymen Conference entitled Sustainable Development in Foundry Materials and Development was held. The Conference was organized by University of Zagreb Faculty of Metallurgy in cooperation with University of Ljubljana Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering, Ljubljana, Slovenia, Rio Tinto Iron & Titanium GmbH, Eschborn, Germany, Pro Ferrum d.o.o., Rijeka, Croatia, Elkem AS, Oslo, Norway and Petrokemija d.d., Kutina, Croatia and under the high auspices of University of Zagreb, Ministry of Science, Education and Sports of Republic of Croatia, Croatian Foundry Association (HULJ), Mittel Europäische Giesserei Initiative (MEGI), Chamber of Commerce of Croatia, Sisak-Moslavina County and City of Sisak. The priority of the Conference was increasing of foundry competitiveness by rationalization and optimization of casting production based on results of researches and new scientific and professional findings, primarily related to the conceptions of contemporary materials and technologies development. Conference was attended by 191 participants from 15 countries (Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, United Kingdom and Croatia). Also, 23 students of the Faculty of Metallurgy were present on the Conference (students of undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate study) as authors or co-autors of five papers. Before the Conference, students and teachers made expert visit to the Foundry CIMOS in Roč, Croatia under the guidance of Mr Davor Stanić, metallurgical engineer. Student s Centre Sisak has given the financial support in participation of the students at the Conference. Within the Conference, 57 papers have been presented (34 orally and 23 in poster section) and all of them have been published in Proceedings book of the 12 th International Foundrymen Conference. For the first time, papers have undergone the international review procedure. Besides eminent experts and scientists, young researchers and PHD students from domestic and foreign universities have presented their papers. Lectures and discussions have been held in English and Croatian.

Also, two companies, which were for the first time present at the Conference, have presented their work and products: Analysis d.o.o. Belgrade, Serbia and Bentoproduct d.o.o. Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina. An exhibition of foundry instruments, equipment and supplementary materials has been held: 18 exhibitors have presented their products and sponsored this Conference. Professor Witold Krajewski handed over to the president of the Organizing Committee of the Conference a charter in the name of the president of the Mittel Europäische Giesserei Initiative (MEGI) professor Jozef Suchy and in the name of the University of Science and Technologies Faculty of Foundry Engineering from Krakow, Poland, with the best whishes for the success of the Conference.
