Caer UrfaU3A Newsletter & Time table Jan. 2013 H A P P Y N E W Y E A R T O A L L O U R M E M B E R S OUR FIRST ANNIVERSARY Yes a full year has passed since the first meeting at the Talbot Methodist Hall. The Steering committee must have had a few butterflies in the weeks running up to that first meeting, wandering if anyone would turn up! Well you did and their plans to create a new U3A for those who couldn t get membership of the existing U3As in the area worked out. They re to be congratulated for getting us to where we are today with over 160 members in the first year and new members joining each month. Here s looking to as much success in the following 12 months. 2012 The year got underway with plenty activities including; Bird watching, sign language, swimming; Walking; whistdrives; Quizzes, loads of outings- Barnard Castle, Harrogate, Helmsley, visits to Castles & museums, a ride on a steam railway and a riverboat Quite a few posh lunches & Sunday dinners. We got settled into our new meeting venue at the Armstrong Hall. Photos of most of these events can be seen on the display board and on the Website at cussu3a.btck.co.uk Please use the website, Dave works hard to keep all news up to date. Ple ase don t forget to renew your membership. Unpaid membership will expire on 1 st March. Christmas Social Thank you to all who contributed gifts for raffle prizes for the Christmas Social night. The Social night itself was a great success thanks to the organizing by Chris Evans, Rose Isaacks and all those who helped prepare the room. Perhaps we won t have to wait till Christmas to have another! A line dance class is held in St. Bede s Church hall Westoe road (rear entrance) starting Sat 12 Jan. at 5.00pm 3.00 per Session. Sequence & Ballroom Dance lessons also take place at the same venue Contact Yvonne Richardson 01914276604 Margaret Cassidy is arranging a evening at the Sea Hotel for a Seventies and 80s night on Friday 1 st March 7-30 cost 12.50 Pay Margaret before or at the February meeting A Number of tickets are available to see The LEAH BELL Show at the Customs House on 2 nd March tickets 12.00 Contact Chris Evans. 0191 4558787

Cheques made out to The Customs House Don t forget the all activity groups start up again this week. See the timetable for details. Or check the website! cussu3a.btck.co.uk Lots of photos have been taken at the social nights and other events during the year. PLEASE let us have some of you photos to use on the website, display board or in this newssheet. The Highland Fling. On 3rd December a group of members from Caer Urfa joined with the Sunderland U3A on a visit to Kingussie up near Inverness. It was like a Winter Wonderland, with all the trees and mountains dressed in snow and the shining rivers gleaming in the sun. The hotel was excellent, good food, friendly, helpful staff, and local folk were great! The excursions were very good we had a demonstration of how a highlander (Jim) robed himself in his kilt the ladies were keen to find out what a Scotsman wore underneath; but were disappointed with the LEVI 501s. The Entertainment in the hotel was mainly provided by accordion players and the sand dancers showed they know how to Party. A few calories were shed, and the Willow got well and truly stripped! A repeat visit may be arranged this year Watch this space. A meeting will be arranged in the near future with the aim of starting two new activity groups One group to take the place of the Whist Group, for those members who wish to take part in games such as different games of cards; dominoes; scrabble., etc. The other group for members who would like to learn a little Spanish in time for their holiday and for those who already know a little Spanish and want to practice using it and maybe help those who want to learn. We will use a variety of training aids. We hope to run these groups in the morning or afternoon. If you re are interested please add you names to the activity sheets in the room or let Tony Kelly Know 4563068
