ANNOUNCEMENTS Prez John announced that Henk Peeters is coordinating volunteers to listen to Healdsburg High s senior economics class presentations on April 22 and 29. Several Rotarians volunteered. Gerry Ogden announced that Bob Rawlins has been terminally ill, as we know. He had 2 wishes, which our Rotary Club helped him to fulfill. First, he wanted his Paul Harris Fellow, which Lynda Guthrie arranged. Next, he wanted his Blue Badge, which Max Dunn delivered. Lynda and Jerry Ogden visited Bob over the weekend, and Bob asked Lynda if he could dictate his obituary to her. She graciously agreed. Here is an excerpt: Captain Robert Rawlins was born in 1926, and graduated from Annapolis in 1947. He had an illustrious career as a Naval Commander. He crossed the bar on March 30, 2015, and sailed silently into the sunset, after an unsuccessful bout with cancer. May our dear friend rest in peace. Prez. John reminded us that we have established the Doug Vadnais Scholarship fund, seeded with funds from our work at the Steelhead Festival. He passed around a sign-up sheet for donations. PP Dave Anderson announced that he and his wife Cathy will donate $1000! At last Saturday s fundraiser for the water filter plant in Guinea-Bissau, we raised another $1000, thanks to Jerry Campbell. Easter is coming up soon, as well as our famous Easter Egg Hunt. Kent Mitchell, who has arranged for 3 bikes and helmets, has also been in contact with the Easter Bunny, who is looking forward to the event. Henk Peeters is organizing an egg boiling party April Fool s Day, 8:00 AM. Gloria Egger will coordinate stuffing the plastic eggs with candy. Thanks to everyone who brought candy today!
Kent Mitchell presented a $5900 check to Bette Perez for HEF s efforts to upgrade the elementary school library. RECOGNITION Prez John recognized two Rotarians as the Rotarian Who Lights Up Rotary: Jerry Ogden and Jerry Campbell. Congratulations, Jerry and Jerry! Chris Parr-Feldman was on hand to help induct Myra Rountree into our Club, assisted by Kate Buchanan and President John Avakian. Myra was presented with her Rotary pin and Red Badge, and was heartily welcomed by all.
Roger Olson was recognized by Prez John for making the Press Democrat in an article about the Battle of the Brews, which he founded, and is now in its 19 th year! Roger donated $50 to his daughter s PH. PROGRAM Kent Mitchell introduced today s speaker, Shaun McCaffery, Healdsburg Mayor and member of the Sunrise Club. Shaun started out by thanking Kent for inspiring him to become a Rotarian. His topic was The City of Healdsburg What s Happening. Housing was the first area he covered. We need housing to accompany any industrial development. We need more dense, multifamily housing, and we need to focus on affordable housing. So we may need to change our current limit of 30 per year. Regarding parking, we clearly need more, so we will have to consider paid parking downtown. Regarding, roads, we will be spending $1.8 million on fixing them. The next budget meeting will take place on April 21. RAFFLE: Phil Chiminello had the winning ticket, but unfortunately not the winning marble...he did receive a lovely bottle of Bertapelle wine, though. CLOSING: Prez John thanked visitors and guests for coming.
