THE UNIVERSITY OF MELBOURNE ARCHIVES NAME OF COLLECTION: INVERGOWRIE PAST STUDENTS ASSOCIATION ACCESSION NO: 98/88, 99/64, 101/63 CATEGORY: ACTIVITY: Other, organisations Educational institutions DATE RANGE: 1929 2001 SIZE OF COLLECTION: DATE OF TRANSFER: ACCESS CONDITIONS: HISTORICAL NOTE: 1.36 mtrs 1998, 1999, 2001 Open The Invergowrie Past Students Association (IPSA) was formed in March 1933 as the Homecraft Hostel Past Students Association, with Mary McKean as first President. In 1967 administration of the Invergowrie Homecraft Hostel passed to the Invergowrie Past Students Association. The Hostel was managed by the Association through the Council of Invergowrie. Margaret Orr, then President of the Association, was Chairman of the Council from 1967 to the hostel s closure in 1973. Assets remaining after liquidation of the Hostel were transferred to Association of Heads of Independent Girls Schools of Victoria (AHIGSV) The Association continued functioning after the Hostel s closure, and in 1987 had 880 members throughout Australia. It was wound-up in 2002. DESCRIPTION: NOTE ON COLLECTIONS: Minutes of meetings, financial statements, publications, and collections of study material collected by students. Material for this collection was transferred under two accessions; the Invergowrie Homecraft Hostel and the Association of Heads of Independent Girls Schools of Victoria (AHIGSV). The records were divided into three collections, reflecting the provenance of three separate creating bodies, the Invergowrie Past Students Association, the Invergowrie Homecraft Hostel and the AHIGSV. The collections are connected through correspondence between the three organizations, and minutes of meetings where members of i

separate organizations were represented. NOTE ON LISTINGS: RELATED COLLECTIONS: Minutes and account books kept in original chronological order. Chronological order for membership material and correspondence was imposed by archives. Material from the Australian Bicentennial series was removed if the material clearly belonged in a more relevant series.
