THE CARAVANER Welcome Lake Perris Hosted by the Road Runners Happy New Year from Parker, Arizona! The Drifters want to thank everybody for helping to make our hosting work through some wet and muddy conditions. Although it only rained Monday night and Tuesday before the official start of the caravan, we still had puddles and mud during the caravan. We survived and enjoyed and had the usual washer toss tournament and played bingo in the Rec. Room. Washer Toss tournament was held with only ten teams. 1st place was Claude Potts and Velna Wells, 2nd was Herb Johnson III and Susan Pyle. The Executive Board set four venues to let guests come: La Paz, Lake Perris, Ventura and Silent Valley (Silent Valley only with prior reservation through the LDCC). We are always glad to have guests. The venues not listed must have approval from the LDCC Chairman. Lazy Daze Caravaner 1
GOODWILL AMBASSADOR REPORT WE SALUTE YOU Host Tent Volunteers For January Firesider, LINDA GENESER #2745 fell and broke her wrist. She had surgery on Tuesday, January the 8th to repair. Roadrunner, ROGER LAPORTE #2711 had cataract surgery. Outback, LURLIE EDGECOMB #2285 also, had cataract surgery. Mona Shaner MonaL@sbcglobal.net AAA Roadside Service A trip north between caravans turned up something unpleasant that we were not aware of. We met with our niece and her husband, intending to make a camping trip with them. Their motorhome is in a storage lot and when they went to pick it up, it would not start. They called AAA (Northern Calif) and found out that they will not go to a storage yard to service or tow a motorhome. Maybe with a RV that has to be stored, AAA might not be a best fit. Good Sam s policy is to send a mobile mechanic, so this should work much better for stored RV s. P.S. to this story: Our niece and husband, unloaded their motorhome, drove to our destination near Bodega Bay in their car and were able to rent a cottage in the campground, so we still had our get together. I got a little wet, but stayed out of a very muddy park. No, I m not spoiled. Do you believe that? 2 Lazy Daze Caravaner
Washer Toss Contest Arriving Wednesday afternoon there were about 20 Lazy Daze already in camp trying to keep out of the mud and ponds that had resulted from the rains of the previous day. Driving around the area we were able to find a location that we did not sink into the mud, but did not level as we decided to wait a day to let things dry out for the rest of the day. The temperatures were quite comfortable during the day but got a little chilly at night. Although it was a light turnout for camping, we had 20 people sign up for our Washer Toss Tournament, with an equal number of men and women. There were some exciting games where Herb III needed a 1 to win the game, however his opponent had put 2 washers into the 1 hole, meaning Herb had to put all 3 of his washers into the 1 hole to win the game, which he proceeded to do, putting their team, team 9, Herb Johnson III and Susan Pyle into the playoff for the Tournament. Team 9, Herb and Susan had to play Team 5, Claude Potts and Velna Wells, the winners of the winners bracket to determine the winner of the Tournament. Herb and Susan had to beat Claude and Velna 2 games, as Claude and Velna had not lost any games. Herb and Susan won the first playoff game forcing a second game. Claude and Velna were able to get their score to 18 requiring only a three to win the game. Herb proceeded to put a washer into the 3 hole, meaning Claude would have to get two 3s or three 1s to win. Claude proceeded to put all three washers into the 3 hole with one washer rolling around and falling in from the back side to win the game and the Tournament. Congratulations to Claude and Velna. 1st - Claude Potts & Velna Wells 2nd - Herb Johnson III & Susan Pyle Lazy Daze Caravaner 3
