It is also one of those share nights so don t forget to bring a snack for the table. It will be getting dark early (ski season is almost here) so watch for deer and try to get there while it s still light. We are fortunate to have a representative from TAASC (The Adaptive Adventure Sports Coalition) coming to give a brief talk at the meeting. Remember that a portion of our ticket sales for the BIG RAFFLE will be donated to TAASC. Only those who have purchased a BIG RAFFLE ticket will be eligible to win the free trip to Park City or other valuable prizes too numerous to mention here. Not going to Park City? Remember, if you win the big one, you can always sell it to someone who is going! Did I mention that a portion of the ticket sales from the BIG RAFFLE will be donated to TAASC. At the October meeting we discussed a change to our club trip/activities policies. At the November meeting, we will vote to add a statement that the Newark Ski Club advises its members to consider trip/travel insurance for major trips. Please see the entire text of the change in this newsletter. But wait there s more I was in Home Depot yesterday and they already have Christmas Decorations slowly taking over the lawn furniture section. That did serve as a reminder that the NSC will have it s December 7th Christmas Party Meeting at the Olde Summit Town Restaurant in Pataskala. You need to get your name on the list (it costs $5 to do that) so we can tell the chef how many to expect. It will be another good time. bruce kern, president Newark Ski Club Meeting Where: Otter Creek Winery 5291 Bennington Chapel Rd. EVERYTHING YOU WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT THE BIG RAFFLE but were afraid to ask. Q. Do I need to be at the drawing to win? A. No, We will notify winners by phone if they are not at the drawing. Really, we will. Q. Do I get anything if I sell the winning ticket? A. Well, not really. But you'll have the satisfaction of knowing that you had the winning ticket in your hand, and sold it! Q. What are the odds of winning? A. About as good as witnessing the next Miller Moon. Q. No, really what are the odds of winning? A. Depends on how many tickets are sold, of course, but we only printed 300 tickets. 240 tickets need to be sold for the Park City grand prize. Q. What happens if less than 240 tickets are sold A. The Board has their next meeting in Las Vegas. Just dreaming The grand prize becomes a 50/50 drawing with the money that is raised from ticket sales. Q. What if the winning person has someone they would like to accompany them to Park City? A. We've made arrangements with the travel agent to hold a room for two with the second space for the winner s roomie. Q. How do I get tickets to sell? A. Call Tim at 740-328-9883 or ask him at the meetings or Happy Hours. This is a great way to help the Club if you are too shy to serve on the Board. So far, we have only sold 24 tickets, so we all need to get busy and sell 216 more or the Grand Prize will become a 50/50 raffle. Thanks! And all your help is greatly appreciated by the Board. Thank you, Tim Crowley A humongous nsc thank you NSC sends our most heartfelt thank yous to Deb Kenney-McBride and Matt McBride for all the great work they did to turn their beautiful Victorian into a House of Horrors for the Halloween Party. We also wish to thank all of those who helped out by carving pumpkins and supplying food and everything else they did. For those who were there, a great time was had by all. And for all y all who thought they had better things to do, what were you thinking?!? CHRISTIAN S CHITCHEN Old-Fashioned Cooking Updated for Ease This time out I want to discuss something that we all forget to do this time of year - DEEP CLEANING! Nobody likes to do it, band we all know it s important to do our Spring Cleaning. But Fall Cleaning has fallen by the wayside. It is just as important to have a clean, aired out house BEFORE we shut it up for the winter as it is to clean and air it out after winter. So try to find time in your schedule to prep your house before you close it up for the winter. Your health and well-being will thank you. SOME CLEANING TIPS: Use your vacuum cleaner s crevice tool to vacuum your bathroom, especially if you have pets (or spouses) that shed. It will get behind & between all parts of your sink & toilet while ensuring that all hair is removed from the area. Then just use a disposable disinfecting wipe to mop your floor; I just drop it and use my foot on top of it to mop. When you are done, use your crevice tool again to get up any dirt that the wipe pulled up. Viola! You have a deep-cleaned & disinfected floor w/o the hassle of a mop. When cleaning my tub & shower walls, I spray it with a multisurface cleaner then wipe with a disinfecting wipe or 2. The multi -purpose cleaner adds extra cleaner & helps keep the wipe wet for longer use. Just don't use a cleaner with ammonia & a bleach disinfecting wipe!!!! Don t forget to occasionally vacuum your couches, chairs, & especially your MATTRESS. Vacuuming your mattress gets all kinds of bad stuff out, especially if you have been sick or someone else has slept on it. Plus, with the rise of bed bug infestations in America, it could mean all the difference. Buy a cheap fitted twin sheet in a color that matches your couch. Whenever kids or grandkids come over, you can just put that sheet over your seat cushions; it ll fit most couches & stay put when sat upon. If they spill or track anything in on their person, it will get on the sheet and not your couch. You can just whip the sheet off, wash it, and reuse it. Couch stays clean, kids can act up, and you can enjoy them without the worry. If something gets dropped on your carpet, don't fret. Just soak the stained area immediately in water. Let that sit for a few moments to soak in (so that it dilutes the stain). Then grab a old towel or rags, lay over the stain, & DANCE!!! Stomp all over that stain. When the towel is soaked, remove it. Place another over the spot, step on it, then let it stay for 24 hrs. It will soak up the rest of the water from the carpet. Stain will be gone!

Page NOVEMBER 3 2010 3 LEARN TO SKI BETTER It s time to kick off one of our longest running activities. This is your chance to make your skiing for the whole year very affordable; the same goes for equipment rental & lessons. Sign up at the next meeting before the price goes up on November 15th. Special programs are available for children as young as 5 years old. Unlimited tubing & ski check are also available as add-ons for $60 & $10 respectively. The once a week lift ticket starts at $140; you can add lessons for $20 & equipment rental for $25. This is a great way to introduce your children or grandchildren to a sport you can enjoy together. If you would rather have the option of skiing every day, then the Season Freedom Pass is for you. It starts at $210 with unlimited lessons for $40 & equipment rental for $80. Prices on both of these packages go up $5 on November 15th. See me at the meeting, e-mail me, or call to find out how to sign up. I plan on being at Snow Trails on Saturdays with my grandchildren. We hope to see you there! Tim Crowley 740-328-9883 papatimmyjay@yahoo.com From Membership: Newark ski club now stands at 73 enthusiastic members! But that leaves about 33 of last year's members to still renew memberships. Since the Membership Committee (me) didn't get reminder notices out before October 15th, we will accept renewals (a $5 per person discount) until the November meeting on the 9th. Be sure to get your check in by then. Not only will it cost more after that but you might miss getting your information into this year's directory.
