Dear Parents and Campers, WELCOME TO ENCANA BADLANDS SCIENCE CAMP. The Royal Tyrrell Museum is owned and operated by Her Majesty the Queen in right of Alberta as represented by the Minister of Culture and Community Spirit. The Museum is committed to providing the best possible Camp experience through fun and educational programming. The following information will help you become familiar with the Royal Tyrrell Museum and life at Encana Badlands Science Camp. By taking a few moments to review this package, we believe your experience will be greatly enhanced. You, and your family, are in for the experience of a lifetime. We have structured our Family Camp in such a way that you will be able to spend time enjoying the natural beauty of the Drumheller badlands as you relax at Camp, or as you prospect for fossils in the hills surrounding our campsite. You will also be free to explore the world-famous Royal Tyrrell Museum galleries and be given exclusive behind-the-scenes tours of the collections department and preparation lab. In our classroom in the ATCO Tyrrell Learning Centre, you will participate in interactive programs that are both educational and entertaining. It s a dinosaur lover s dream come true. Our teepee camp is one of a kind. We take great pride in providing an environment that is as safe and comfortable as possible for you and your family. Our staff is well trained, enthusiastic, and eager to make your stay a real delight. Encana Badlands Science Camp is an experience you will talk about for years to come. Family Science Camp Letter of Agreement Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act The personal information concerning the Campers or the Campers' parent or guardian, and emergency contact in this application is collected by the Government of Alberta under the authority of section 33(c) of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (Alberta) and will be protected by the privacy provisions of that Act. I acknowledge and agree that the personal information will be used for determining the Camper s eligibility for the Encana Badlands Science Camp ( Science Camp ) and the operation and the promotion of the Science Camp and the Royal Tyrrell Museum. If I have questions regarding my consent of the use of my personal information, I can contact FOIP Coordinator, Roger Mariner at the Ministry of Culture and Community Spirit at 513, Terrace Building, 9515 107 Street, Edmonton, AB T5K 2C3, (780) 415-9180. THE ROYAL TYRRELL MUSEUM WILL provide opportunities for adults and children to participate in a variety of activities and programs that will foster an appreciation of the natural sciences and the environment. These programs will be fun and interactive, allowing Campers to immerse themselves in geology, biology, and palaeontology. Family Science Camp will provide programming, nutritious meals and snacks, shelter in a field camp setting, transportation during Science Camp, guidance, and instruction. Associated Fees Adult (Ages 16 & over) $230 each + 5% GST Children (Ages 15 & under) $195 each + 5% GST THE CAMPERS ACKNOWLEDGE that they are entering this agreement in consideration for participation in the Science Camp. THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS MUST BE SIGNED AND RETURNED 1) Family Science Camp Letter of Agreement 2) Family Science Camp Registration 3) Campers' Medical Information 4) Consent and Waiver of Liability and Release of all Claims THE CAMPERS AGREE to indemnify and hold harmless, the Government of Alberta, from any and all third party claims, demands, actions, or costs (including legal costs on a solicitor-client basis) for which the Campers are legally responsible, including those arising out of negligence or willful acts by the Camper or the Campers' employees or agents. This hold harmless shall survive this agreement. CANCELLATION AND REFUNDS: A non-refundable deposit of $75 is required to reserve each position at Encana Badlands Science Camp. Full payment is required on or before June 1, after which no refund will be issued for cancellations. Any cancellations will result in the forfeit of the deposit of $75 per camper as a processing fee. FULL PAYMENT IS REQUIRED ON BOOKINGS MADE AFTER JUNE 1. A full refund will be issued for medical reasons with a proof of illness, in writing, and signed by a doctor. All other refunds are subject to review by the Bookings office and Museum management. Family Science Camp Letter of AgreemenT cont. POLICIES: a) Campers are to remain with Science Camp staff members at all times. b) The ratio of Campers to staff is usually 6:1. The Royal Tyrrell Museum is a non-smoking environment in accordance with the Tobacco Reduction Act. Unacceptable behaviour or failure to comply with this policy may result in the Camper being asked to leave without financial reimbursement. PERMISSION TO USE INFORMATION I, the parent or guardian, on behalf of my family, grant the Her Majesty the Queen in right of Alberta as represented by the Minister of Culture and Community Spirit ( Government of Alberta ) the non exclusive right to photograph the Campers, and make audio-visual recordings of the Campers. I consent to and authorize, without limitation, the Government of Alberta to use the Campers' photograph, image, and/or statements (the Information ) for advertising, promotional, and marketing purposes related to the Science Camp and the Royal Tyrrell Museum with no compensation, and without further notice or permission. I consent and grant to the Government of Alberta the worldwide right to broadcast, exhibit, publish, transmit, distribute, reproduce, produce, adapt, transcribe, translate, and/or modify, including, but not limited to, cropping, resizing, colour retouching and editing, or otherwise use the Information, in print, electronic, digital and web-based media, including social media websites, and through any new media. I understand that I may revoke these permissions in writing at any time and that revocation will only come into effect after the Government of Alberta has received notice of revocation. Revocation of these permissions will not apply to any information previously published or released before written notice is received. FAMILY SCIENCE CAMP CONSENT AND WAIVER OF LIABILITY AND RELEASE OF ALL CLAIMS A signed waiver of liability is required for each Encana Badlands Science Camp Program ( Science Camp ) participant ( Camper ). Campers under the age of 18 must have their consent and release form read and signed by a parent or guardian as well as by the Camper. In consideration of acceptance of my family s participation as Campers in the Science Camp, I agree to this release of claims, waiver of liability and assumption of the risks identified below (collectively the Release ). On behalf of myself and my family as Campers, we waive any and all claims that I or my family may have against, and release from all liability, and agree not to sue Her Majesty the Queen in Right of Alberta as represented by the Minister of Culture and Community Spirit (the Government of Alberta ) nor the Royal Tyrrell Museum ( Museum ), which is owned and operated by the Government of Alberta, nor the Science Camp sponsor, Encana Corporation, their directors, officers, officials, servants, sponsors, employees and volunteers for any personal injury, death, property damage, or loss sustained by my family as Campers as a result of our participation as Campers in the Science Camp arising out of any cause whatsoever. DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVITIES AND RISKS The activities in which and your child may participate during the Science Camp include, but are not limited to, the following: Crafts working with clay, water paints, glue, feathers, and plasticine Hiking off trail on steep, rough terrain in Midland Provincial Park Touring Historic Atlas Coal Mine including a guided tour through an underground tunnel Guided tours of the galleries and collections department at the Royal Tyrrell Museum Swimming under lifeguard supervision at the Drumheller Aquaplex Fossil casting working with latex moulds and dental plaster in the fossil casting lab Fossil preparation using awls and dental picks to clean dirt and rock from fossils Outdoor games running on grass, pavement and irregular ground behind the Museum Educational programs in an ATCO Tyrrell Learning Centre classroom and Museum auditorium Camping and sleeping in teepees ASSUMPTION OF RISKS In consideration of our participation in the Science Camp and all related activities, I and my child acknowledge that we are aware of, appreciate and accept the inherent physical risks and the other possible RISKS, DANGERS, AND HAZARDS associated with being a Camper, including the possible risk of severe or fatal injury to me, my family, or others. These risks include but are not limited to: a) all manner of soft tissue injuries such as bruises, scrapes, cuts, sprains and strains, as well as broken bones which may result from slips and/or falls on rough terrain, contact with other Campers, and failing to use tools and equipment properly, either by my child, other Science Camp participants, or Museum staff; b) all manner of injuries resulting from equipment failure, camping in teepees or campfires; c) transmission of diseases in various ways and types from contact with other Camp participants resulting in death, disease, or other illnesses; d) all manner of injuries resulting from weather, including heat exhaustion and heat stroke during hot weather; flying debris due to windy conditions; and hypothermia due to cold and/or wet weather; e) all manner of injuries and/or death that may result from transportation between facilities by bus; f) damage to, or theft or loss of some or all of the Campers' possessions g) that my child s risk of injury increases as they become fatigued, wet, cold, or overheated. INDEMNITY On behalf of my family, I agree to indemnify and hold harmless, the Government of Alberta, and Encana Corporation from any and all third party claims, demands, actions or costs (including legal costs on a solicitorclient basis) for which my family is legally responsible, including those arising out of negligence of willful acts by my family. This hold harmless shall survive this Release. ACCEPTANCE OF RESPONSIBILITIES I, the representative of my family as registered Campers, understand and agree that we are responsible for: 1) FOLLOWING all the instructions and rules given by those responsible for or in charge of the above noted Science Camp and all related activities while I and my family are members and/or participating in the above noted Science Camp. I understand and accept that the instructions and rules are in place to provide a safe environment for the entire Camp; and 2) OBEYING all the rules and regulations pertaining to the above noted Camp and all related activities. On behalf of my family, I agree that this Consent and Waiver of Liability and Release of All Claims is subject to and governed by the laws in force in the Province of Alberta. In entering into this Release I am not relying on any oral or written representations made by the Government of Alberta or the Royal Tyrrell Museum, including those in any brochures issued to induce me to take part in the Encana Badlands Science Camp Program. I ACKNOWLEDGE THAT I HAVE READ AND UNDERSTOOD THIS AGREEMENT, that I understand, appreciate and voluntarily accept the risks associated with my family s participation to the above noted Camp and all related activities at the Royal Tyrrell Museum and I voluntarily agree to the terms of this Agreement. As the representative of my family as registered Campers, I voluntarily consent to our participation in the above noted Camp and all related activities.
