North Hills Historic Auto Club October 2010 Visit us at http://clubs.hemmings.com/nhhac Hi Everyone, In this issue: September Minutes 3 On Saturday, September 18th I accompanied some of our club members to the Elmcroft of Allison Park Assisted Living Community. ( No, we were not moving in ). They were having a "50's" day for the residents and their visiting relatives. Lots of fuzzy dice, poodle skirts, pink ladies and 50's music and don't forget the classic cars. We got many compliments on our cars, but I think the important thing was that it gave our elderly friends and neighbors something to enjoy, something special to spice up their lives. We had a good time and helped some other people. That's a good thing. I just hope when I'm living there they'll wheel me out to see some neat cars, too. pictures 4-5 Happenings 6-7 For Sale 11 On the cover: Bob Cirilli and his 1913 Buick Touring NEXT MEETING October 10 7 p.m. St. Alphonsus school cafeteria

SEPTEMBER MINUTES of NHHAC The meeting was held at Chuck Glenz' house on Sunday, September 12, 2010. Jan Smith read and approved minutes from last meeting; no changes. Jack Swaney gave the Treasurer's report - balance of $3,937.53. No income. Michael Quinn motioned to accept the Treasurer's Report and Ken Baker seconded. Wellness report: Frank Pribanic is in the hospital. Room 337D at UPMC Passavant. No other report. No new members were present. Old business: On the issue of maintaining a roster of people who are willing to drive people in their cars to wedding, etc. Steve Illsley looked into this with his agent and with Haggerty Insurance. The bottom line is if you transport people for money, they you can be liable for any injuries that may occur. As long as you are transporting people for free, you are fine. After much discussion, Jennie Barker made a motion to table this issue. Michael Quinn seconded this motion. New business: The Club needs a Nominating Committee -The following persons volunteered to be on the Nominating Committee: Jennie Barker, Jack Swaney, Carol Vivaldi, John Kaiser and Pat O'Neill. We will be voting on a new VP (whose term will be 2 years and then serve as President for 2 years); Secretary/Treasurer and a Board member (since Jennie Barker's term will expire). Becky Stauffer reminded everyone about October 16th s Shaler Homecoming. Look to newsletter for more information. Michael Quinn mentioned that they need 10-15 cars for Elmcroft Nursing Home which will be putting on a 1950's-themed event on September 18th. Anyone wanting to volunteer to bring their car, call Michael. Michael Quinn also mentioned about being at the West View VFW last night to hear Terry Lee. Terry Lee, a 50-60's disc jockey with WMCK in McKeesport, is back and will be playing there again on October 2nd. Michael Quinn also mentioned his Lion's spaghetti dinner to be held at Elfinwild Church on Saturday, October 9th. Mary Jo Phillips mentioned that the Mars Apple Festival and car cruise will be held on the first Saturday in October. Jan Smith will be DJ there as well. Pat O'Neill will be putting together a slide show presentation re: restoration of his Buick at his house on Saturday, November 6th at 9:00 a.m. Bring a chair. Pat's garage is off Wildwood Extension near the CVS. More info will be in the newsletter. Mary Jo Phillips and Jack Swaney mentioned the Night at the Races at the Mars VFW on October 23rd. Look at the Newsletter for further information. Information from Steve (even though he wasn't there): The September 22nd lunch has been cancelled; the October 6th lunch is on for Brackenridge Country Club. This will be sponsored by the Cutili's. Please call them for details; October 20th lunch, call Steve. On October 29th, the men's breakfasts will start. Call Steve for details. Thinking of tackling a restoration or major repair on one of your antique/classic vehicles? Set aside a few hours on Saturday, November 6th at 9:00 am and join fellow enthusiasts of the hobby at Pat O'Neill's garage. This would be a good opportunity to ask questions or share your experiences and see firsthand how obstacles were overcome in a recent restoration of a 1912 Buick. Discussions on modern material uses and how some modern "upgrades" were incorporated into the work on this vehicle. Jack Dougherty, John Kaiser and Rick Kelley will be on hand to share insight on some of their past or on-going projects. I will put together some slides to show as well. If you can give me a call or email and let me know if you plan on attending, I'll have some but you may want to bring a chair if you can. Parking is kind of limited in my driveway but there are alternatives, there is an office building behind my garage or you can park across the street at CVS Pharmacy. Please don't park at the fire station which is across the street! NOTE: This is not my house address. The address of the garage is 2885 Wildwood Road Ext., Allison Park, it is two driveways past the BP Station going up the hill from Route 8, there are two white mail boxes at the driveway, the garage (not visible from the street) is behind the yellow and brown house directly across from the North Hampton Fire Station. Pat O'Neill 412-487-8512 (Home) 412-719-8421 (Cell) pjojlo@msn.com Bob Zufall, Al Zamba, and Mike Quinn tell Matt McQuiston to attend Pat O Neill s Restoration Workshop on November 6 to learn more!
