ROTARY BIKERS RAISE $200,000 for RoCan Posted by Tony THOMAS Rotary bike-riders have raised more than $200,000 for ovarian cancer research as they pedal 1000km to annual District 9800 conferences. So far 22 riders, including six women, have signed on for a six-day ride around Tasmania preceding the 2015 conference on March 12-14. They will launch their ride from the Hobart Town Hall, with a municipal send-off. Back at conference, they will be congratulated on-stage by District Governor Murray Verso. This year 12 riders to the 2014

conference at the Gold Coast raised $40,000 and last year riders to Albury raised $50,000. Riders pay $1000 each for ride support and beds, and sponsors bulk up the ride s profits. Main sponsors are Western Trucks Williamstown, SEW Euro Drive Australia, Marshalls & Dent Lawyers, and Accountable Accountants, Bacchus Marsh. Frank O Brien (Chairperson) called for an early start, commencing with Announcements: Kevin Love and Neville John outlined the current stage of the 2017 D9800 district conference (Neville will be District Governor and hosting the conference, Kevin is the appointed Chair) The objective is to draw on inside club and outside project participation. around March (possibly 11 th March). Location options: Geelong, Ballarat, Shepparton, others? of the conference: Year Theme, not known yet, ideas are welcome! to be filled: Programming and marketing, sponsors ideas, and others. Roger Thornton gave a reminder: Filled Christmas donation bags, whichever colour, should be brought along to the club meeting on 16 December. A statement from Frank O Brien: Community Village participation guaranties no immunity against breathalyser testing on the way home... Director s Report: Chair of the day, Frank, gave a special welcome to the presenter of the report on INTERNATIONAL activities Director Frank O Brien. Laos/Luang Prabang : 3 projects completed, Kevin & Veronica Love participated in opening ceremonies; next year possibly re-build of 1 or 2 classrooms. Fitzroy Crossing project to support indigenous community services, planned for June 2015. Sister Clubs : Echuca-Moama; steam rally participation planned again by Alan Driver. Sister Clubs : Osaka Midosuji; George Mills represented RCCM-S at their 24. Anniversary function. Donations in Kind committee meeting tonight for the event in 2 nd half of 2015. International House, Fraternitas Award and Cafe Internationale continue again next year. President s Report President Roy spoke about the importance of the Business Leaders Breakfast on 3 rd March 2015. Silk-Miller Scholarships will benefit from this event. Sergeant Session Sergeant Bernie Gerlinger entertained in his Christmas trivia with unkown facts. The top unknown : What was the biggest Christmas present ever (so far)?
