Location Camp Laurence is situated on the shores of Lake Moogerah, about one and a half hours drive from the Gold Coast.
Outdoor Education Outdoor Education - provides opportunities for students to experience adventure, healthy risk taking, challenges and leadership opportunities. Lake Moogerah offers a beautiful environment, which rewards students with breath-taking views, amazing wildlife and bird watching.

Camp Laurence The program has been designed to build upon the skills that students would have gained in Year 7 at Hidden Creek, while preparing them for Year 9 at Cooloola National Park where they will undertake an extended expedition.

Safety Activities are lead by experienced professionals All activities are undertaken with current weather conditions in mind Students are always under supervision by OE and St Hilda s staff Staff will carry a first aid kit. Staff are in radio contact Students wear a hat, sunscreen, comfortable clothes and sturdy shoes Students are briefed about the potential hazards and appropriate safety procedures in every activity
Camping Base camp: 2 nights Expedition: 1 night Involves erecting tents for sleeping shelter Using trangias for food preparation Toilets and showers are at the base camp
Bushwalking Students stay together and keep to designated tracks Students carry their own gear The program involves a half a day walk
Canoeing Lake Moogerah is an outstanding environment to explore by canoe. Students will be given a lesson in canoeing and water safety Students are expected to carry their packs containing their belongings in the canoe with them Prevailing weather conditions are considered and if inappropriate the activity will be modified
Low Ropes Series of rope/cable, pole, tyre and plank fixtures joined together which the students negotiate using balance from start to finish under the supervision of trained staff The low ropes course is close to the ground, so if a student loses their balance they just step back down to the ground Each section of the course will involve students using strategies in how to move their body to best negotiate the course
High Ropes The high ropes course is set in the air, and a student is harnessed to the cables, so if they lose their balance they remain close to the cable and can reposition themselves to continue All participants work as a team helping each other
Mountain Biking Cycling is experienced in this outdoor education program as a recreational activity/physical pursuit Students travel to various landmarks throughout the area At all times when riding, students will be wearing helmets Students learn the skills of mountain biking, bicycle safety and some running bicycle repairs
Bike Riding - Training Bike riding lessons will be offered at a designated time before the camp If your daughter has not ridden a bike for a while and would like an opportunity to practise in order to build her confidence, she can email or see Mr Andrews
On Tuesday, 25 February Bus departure: 8:30 am sharp from Cougal St bus stop. at Be on time! Bring the Garbage bag with your name on it + everything that is on the list. Return to School at approximately 3:00pm on Friday, 28 February
Being Prepared While the Lake Moogerah region enjoys a mild, sub-tropical climate, the temperature at night can be quite cool at that time of year. Students should not get: - COLD - WET - THIRSTY - SUNBURNED
Gear Students need to carry their gear, tents, food, cooking equipment and other group gear for the one night expedition. Students should bring EVERYTHING on the list but also ONLY the items on the list. Packing All belongings in a garbage bag Garbage bags need to be labelled Water bottles filled up Sleeping bag waterproofed Students will get a backpack and sleeping mat from their instructor
What to bring 2 x FULL 2.5 litre water bottles Torch with spare batteries Sleeping bag 6-8 garbage bags Personal medication Camera
Shoes 2 pairs Closed-in No thongs Good, comfortable pair of runners or boots for hiking Canoeing shoes will get wet and muddy
Warm clothing Layers: woolen or thermal Track suit pants Beanie Gloves
Japaras for hire Students need a good raincoat with a hood and length to cover their bottom Japara = waterproof coat Japaras can be hired from the School Students can book a japara with Mr Andrews The school account will be charged the $20 hire fee If the japara is lost or damaged an extra charge will be incurred
