Indigenous programming at kuril dhagun Indigenous Knowledge Centre

The program for kuril dhagun in 2007 focuses around 5 major themes. Country Family & Community People & Power Identity Desert to Saltwater

kuril dhagun public program Exhibitions Profiling new and emerging community & professional artists. Exploring the programming of performance theatre & installations. A night by the fire series Monthly events in the Talking Circle profiling local community people. Film Screenings Free screenings profiling the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander collection in SLQ. School Holiday Programs Developing and facilitating school holiday programs that engage children in aspects of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and knowledge. Tours Conducting tours of kuril dhagun and the State Library of Queensland on request. These tours can vary from individuals, families, community and school group. Tours can be arranged to suit curriculum studies or family research needs.

kuril dhagun public program Major Events & Themed Programs Events and programs created to celebrate and acknowledge significant community celebrations and achievements such as NAIDOC, Reconciliation Week, Referendum 67 and National Sorry Day and community programs such as the Young Murri Mums Week and the proposed Murri Xmas concert and International Indigenous Voices Program 2008. Digital Program Supporting and delivering community created content through digital recording of personal stories, community reflections and histories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Queensland. kuril dhagun intranet Increasing the awareness of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander collections in the State Library of Queensland through the digital access portal in kuril dhagun. The intranet is an internally managed portal that is not accessible in any other part of the library or on the web. This creates a safe environment for community created content and protects the intellectual property and cultural heritage for the contributors.

Outreach Participating in community events and programs to increase the awareness and access to the State Library of Queensland, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander collections, Indigenous Library Services Unit and kuril dhagun Indigenous Knowledge Centre. Venue Bookings There are a range of spaces for hire in kuril dhagun including the Loris Williams Room and the Talking Circle. These spaces and venues are utlised by the community for meetings, workshops and events.

school holiday program Summer Reading Club Program 2007 A partnership with The Edge, Summer Reading Club was a two week program run over the Christmas holidays incorporating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander themes and activities. kuril Scavenger Hunt This interactive holiday program, encouraged participants / children to search the different areas throughout the State Library of Queensland to find kuril the water rat then participate in activities in kuril dhagun. Island Time, September 2007 Discovering the Torres Strait Island s, children aged seven to 11 can dream of Island Time with songs, dances and storytelling, a chance to decorate their own head-dress and more. Summer Reading Club Program 2008 A partnership with The Edge, Summer Reading Club will be a two week program run over the Christmas holidays incorporating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander themes and activities.

major events program Reconciliation Week 2007 In partnership with Reconciliation Queensland, the week long program worked on highlighting the ongoing focus areas for reconciliation Australia through workshops, forums and activities. National Sorry Day Launch and BBQ Hosted by the Queensland Sorry Day Journey of Healing Working Group, the official program was launched by special guest speakers including Aunty Joan Hendricks, Democrat Senator Andrew Bartlett and Claire Moore Labor Senator for Queensland, and celebrated with performers and a free BBQ in the Talking Circle. Referendum 67 A number of key events, digital oral histories projects, gatherings and programs ran throughout the month of June focusing of the 40 year anniversary of the 1967 Referendum. A key partnership with 98.9fm enabled the gathering of over 200 audio interviews with community to be gathered for the collection.

Digital program & kuril dhagun intranet Referendum 67 Partnership project with 98.9fm collecting voices and reflections of the importance of the Referendum 1967 for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Queensland past, present and future. Fred s Story A documentary about Fred Fletcher's experiences in finding his mob through accessing the Tindale Collection in the State Library of Queensland. Kuril a love story An animation created to tell Tom Petrie s version of a traditional story given to him by the Turrbal people of the Brisbane area. Future projects include: Torres Strait Island Railroad Project, Languages Project, 7 generations of Mt Isa Women and Aunty Alice James story.
