Benefit for The Dalles Civic A Trail Band Christmas Starts the Season Off Guest Artist Andy Stokes. Christmas must be coming if The Trail Band is coming to The Dalles Civic Auditorium on December 1st. This year s special guest is Andy Stokes. If you look into the Soul of Portland, you will find Andy Stokes. He has recorded with A & M Records, Warner Brothers Records, toured Japan, and enjoyed a solo career. His recording of the song Test of Time made the Top 10 on the Billboard charts. Andy has performed with Curtis Salgado, Linda Hornbuckle, and Nu Shooz locally, along with Michael Bolton, George Clinton, Connie Stevens, Temptations, Stylistics and many others. Additionally, he was the voice for one of the famous California Raisin characters, developed at Will Vinton Studios. Andy continues to perform his unique soulful music throughout the Northwest. The Trail Band is an 8- piece ensemble that creates an energetic blend of brass and string arrangements of traditional and original music featuring five great vocalists including Quarterflash's Rindy Ross. Hundreds of public and private Winter Flea Markets Support The Civic What are you doing on a Sunday afternoon this winter? The fall/winter Flea Markets are scheduled for Nov. 16, Dec. 14, Jan. 11, and Feb. 8. Board Member Trish Neal is heading up the monthly Flea Markets with the help of fellow board member, Sherry Munro, and Program Manager, Debbie McBain. The first market was held in October. It was a bit of a last minute gathering but proved to be successful nonetheless. November s market is maxed out; filling up the Community and Fireside rooms. Vendors rented the available 36 spaces in about two weeks. There s even a waiting list. Besides filling a niche for the winter months, the market brings people to The Civic and it supports the operation of the facility. Tours are also offered to those interested. It s a winwin for everyone.

Without our friends who see the value of preserving the Civic, our job would be much more difficult. We salute you! This past year has been a busy one for us. (See below.) The long awaited restoration of the Civic s Theatre is upon us. We ve received the engineer s plan and just need to factor in the costs to have a completed plan. If you haven t seen the architect s renderings of what the fully-restored Theatre will look like, please check out our website or stop by the Theatre the next time you are in the building. We are excited to get started and 2015 will be the year our campaign starts moving forward with greater speed. Your continued support of The Civic is important to us for many reasons: 1.Your investment financially supports us. 2.Your investment shows foundations and grantors that we have the support of the community. 3.Many of our volunteers come from our supporters and those volunteer hours are used as match for grant applications. We have many areas where we need volunteers. 4.Your investment assures our TDCAHPC Board of Directors that we re not alone in this. Over the past several years, It s Been Happening at The Dalles Civic This past year has been busy for the Civic! We ve hosted several events such as: Pianist Matt Bowers entertained us in April. This was a benefit concert for The Civic and he made the grand piano sing! In May, we hosted the first Preservation Month Open House. We featured the Civic with special exhibits by local historical venues and we of- fered tours of the Civic. The 4 th Annual Beer Fest was held in September. This is an annual benefit event for the Civic and the beer was graciously donated by the breweries. We were part of the PEO Tour in October. Tours were given of the space under the stage. Our board members were on hand to greet the visitors, offer information about the Civic, hand out membership information, The Dalles Civic Auditorium our membership dues were on a month to month basis. If you joined in June, your dues were renewed the following June. The board of directors determined that an annual membership running January 1 st through December 31 st was more efficient. We ve also implemented a new Membership Benefits program that is geared to the level of membership. The new program will roll out on January 1, 2015. If your dues were to be renewed in the past few months, you have a choice of pro-rating those dues through the end of the year and then pay for 2015, or send in your check for your membership renewal and note on the application that you wish your dues to take effect January 1, 2015. We will wrap up the Flea Markets in February. They have been a big hit! The Civic and The Fort Dalles Museum/Anderson Homestead Foundation will be co-hosting History After Hours on February 10th for local history people. A Trail Band Christmas...continued from page 1 Northwest. Cornet, tenor horn, tuba, fiddles, hammer dulcimer, guitars, penny whistle, mandolin, piano, saxophone, spoons, bones, drums, bass, and recorders combine with their rich vocal harmonies to create a diverse tapestry of sound. Formed by Marv Ross in 1991 at the request of the Oregon Trail Council to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the trail, the band initially performed music exclusively from and about the era of the Oregon Trail with costumes, diary readings, traditional folk tunes, marches, hoedowns, and Native American melodies. Titled, Voices From The Oregon Trail, this performance has been the keystone of the band's repertoire for over 10 years. Tickets are available at Klindt s Booksellers and Columbia River Music and are $20 per person. Tickets will be available at the door but concert goers are encouraged to obtain their tickets early. The concert will be performed onstage in the Civic s Theatre.
