Volume 42, Issue 10 President's Message The leaves are turning gold, the air is cooler, and it is a great time to be outside enjoying our hobby. Your Board of Directors has some great activities planned for you to participate in. I would encourage everyone to check out the activities listed in the enclosed calendar of events. We also have some good tech talks planned for the rest of the year so make sure you make all of the meetings. This meeting's tech talk will be on Model A Carburetors, and will be presented by Roger Olson. He is extremely knowledgeable about them. So don't miss this tech talk. I would also like to thank Lee Hendrix for taking over this Month's Meeting, since I won't be available to attend. It's great to have a very competent Vice President. The shorter days also bring to mind that the November meeting is getting close, a good time to examine your own dedication to the old car hobby, and possibly making a move to run for a club office for next year. There is no better way to see how the club is run, and to make a significant contribution to the Club's success. Please let Lee Hendrix know if you are interested in a job to better support our hobby. Remember November's monthly meeting is also our annual White Elephant sale, so start looking around the house and garage for seldom used treasures that you would like to give a new home. In addition the end of the year means it is about time to pay your club dues for next year, so act now and avoid the last minute rush. Out and About with our Model A s From Gretna, Ne. to Minneapolis, Mn. in our Model A Ford! About a year ago, we were asked by Nash-Finch, our grocery supplier to display our grocery related Model A's at the Midwest Region Food Show in Minneapolis, Mn. This year is the 125th anniversary of the Nash Finch Company and they wanted some special displays. The first plan was to transport the cars in February by Fed-ex. FYI that would have cost $4500.00, but it was not to smart at any cost to put them on the road in February. This was not the longest distance we have driven the Huckster, but it was the longest drive without a Model A buddy to tour with us. The total round trip was 820 miles and it took 11 hours each way. We did drive the beautiful scenic back road highways for 2 days each way. The average speed was 47 mph and our only repair was to replace the water pump at the hotel. We really enjoyed visiting with others about our great hobby and answering many questions- -mostly, did you really drive this car all the way here? Besides our Huckster and Delivery, there was a very nice 1950 Chevy pick-up on display. Every day, we would check the drip pans under the cars and the Chevy dripped a lot!! Mary McKinney Benson Parade Despite the cold and rain, we had a good turn out for the Benson Parade. Thanks to Lee Hendrix, the McKinneys, the Heerens, Steve Anderson and Nikki Vieth, Bill Patterson, and Don Graves. And, of course, the food and camaraderie at Pepperjax Grill afterward were great. I guess that there is always something a little different under each hood. What is a good parade without retiring to a local establishment for some socializing? 2

Out and About 2 Don and Sheri have a birthday treat at Salgado s Annual Picnic What is a picnic without food and someone to make sure that it is cooked correctly. Volume 42, Issue 10 Doug Heeren ran into some Model Aers on the GAMARAI (Great Annual Model A Ride Around Iowa) tour at the LeMars Ice Cream Parlor. They were on their tour through Iowa in mid September. Hmm. Maybe we should take that tour?? All participated in the games. What happened to the score sheets? Our board picked a beautiful day and a beautiful spot for our club picnic this year. We had tasty burgers and sausage plus many good dishes that we all brought. The wind was a little stiff to play most of the planned games, but we had a rousing game of bolo ball. In spite of the beautiful weather, only a few Model A s actually made it to the picnic. A meeting of the minds, or just a meeting? 3
