The Fall Foliage Train Ride through the Lehigh Gorge took place on Sept 18-19. The weather cooperated this year. If you remember last year IT SNOWED!!! A group of Jersey Late Greats Members met at the Jim Thorp Train Station at 10:30 and boarded the train at 11:00. In attendance were the Thackeray Families (ALL Three), Lucas Family and Alex, and new Members Angelo & Clair Delmonte. The train ride through Lehigh Gorge was beautiful and interesting. One of the Conductors narrated the local history of the rail road and the town of Jim Thorp. The town is rich in history. After the ride, the group stopped for lunch and then headed to the Ekley Mine Village. On the way they were detoured because of a hill climb competition. Jim & Karen Thackeray got them back on track with their GPS. Later that day, they saw some of the sports cars that competed in the hill climb, and drove down the course they used for the competition. John Lucas s 58 Impala made it down the course, and around the hair pin curves, but could never compete with the sports cars the real racers drove. The Mine Village provided a look back in time to the hardships of mine workers and their families back in the late 1800 s. The houses still stand, and some are still occupied! The coal breaker still stood, however was blocked off because much of it had fallen down and was probably not safe. Some of the houses had been renovated years ago for the Movie The Molly Maguires, which was filmed on site at Ekley s. After touring the Ekley Mine Village the group headed to Roadies Restaurant at Penn s Peak and enjoyed more socializing while overlooking a fantastic view of the Pocono Mountains. This was the first Jersey Late Greats event for Angelo and Clair Delmonti. John Lucas said it was great to meet such a nice couple. They have a beige 1964 four door. Thanks for joining the group this time out, and we hope to see you at another event soon. Thanks also Lou DiPietro for coordinating this event. Our first meeting after the summer recess took place on September 12. First and foremost, a new member attended, Phil Italiano who owns a 62 Sport Coupe. Welcome Phil and hopefully we ll see you at future events. Some of the items discussed were the length of time a classified ad will run. Verne reiterated the policy, which is that an ad will run for 3 months after which time the Ad editor Tom Merring will remove the ad unless you contact him to extend the ad for another 3 months. The Christmas Dinner will be on December 12 and we re starting to plan now. At the next meeting, Dawn Dennery will be handing out a sign-up sheet to the membership for everyone to bring a dish. If you can t attend the next meeting and wish to bring a dish, please call Dawn. We have a list of 2011 events with tentative dates, but it s not yet complete. If you have an idea about any car related event that may be of interest, please share it before the calendar fills up. If you think of an event, it doesn t mean that you are now the coordinator of that event, unless of course you d like to be, so don t be bashful. During the October meeting, Mike Berry will be holding nominations for the 2011 Officer positions. Speaking of Mike Berry, please be sure to check out the neat Photo Pages from the Garvey Boat Races later in this newsletter, Thanks Mike!!! Also, the November meeting date has been changed from the 14 th to the 7 th. L A T E Enjoy the Rhode! G R E A T S R U L E Jim

By: Al Bernotas The Jersey late Greats assembled at Burlington Chevrolet, Burlington New Jersey on August 28, 2010 for our club Chevy Display. Mother Nature provided a clear sky, low humidity, moderate temperature and a gentle breeze. Or maybe the gentle breeze was from the occasional 18 wheeler rolling by? Anyway, we could not have asked for a more perfect day! Joe DiNoia brought his fine red Corvette all the way from South Jersey, but left his pet dog home this time. A few new faces brought cars including Mark Mercuri with his 1962 Anniversary Gold Impala. Tony DeMarinis displayed his fine black 64 409 Impala, and Hank Montenegro brought his very clean black Chevy Pickup. Paul Kutentis displayed his immaculate 1970 Big Block four speed Chevelle. And I brought Big Blue my 63 Impala Wagon just to make the other cars look better! We had a great showing of outstanding Late Greats. The Dennery s brought two cars, a fine looking black 57 and a 64 convertible, plus a pop-up tent. Steve Calandra brought his 58 Impala and a reclining lawn chair. Steve needed a rest after his timely travel from New Milford, NJ. Bob Priessnitz came from the Jersey Shore and brought his original family owned 1961 Impala (excellent car Bob!) I like those dagmar bumperetts, they brought back memories of my wasted youth. Jim Thackeray brought his 409 powered 64 SS with a much appreciated pop-up Eagles tent. There were other cars on display that belonged to employees or friends of the dealership. The general manager, John Broderick had his Fathers 1968 red GTO convertible on display. A beautifully restored car to say the least. The highlight, at least for me because I did not have to cook, was the barbeque provided by the dealership. John Broderick was the head chef. Thanks John!!! The majority of our members traveled long distances to get to the display, which is to be commended. The commitment to the club has always impressed me, and makes me proud to say I am a member of the Jersey Late Greats! Thank you all for your participation.

Happy Fall to you all! The colors are really starting to brighten the landscape, what a nice time to cruise in your Late Great! It s been a busy Summer; what with another Flatty trip to Woodward, the picnic at the Dennery s, the Jersey Shore and the Dead Mans Curve Hot Rod Party-how could you go wrong? Down to business, and we ll commence with Joe DiNoia. Joe has been working on his Daily Driver-a 1959 Sedan Delivery. We ll let Joe tell you of his progress in his own words: I Got back to the wagon a bit. Made some tracks this weekend. The right rocker needed help, so I had to fabricate the repairs. I had to fabricate the hinge box and plate for the right door lower hinge. Was as bad as the left side. Front 1/4 is on and filler done. The left rocker was a lot better, so an easy repair. Car had a left 1/4 many, many years ago. I still have to do the tail light thing on the left side also. Thanks Joe-looks good, keep it up! I know that Jim Brussel has been busy working on his 1964 El Camino-can t wait to see that car on the road. How about some of you other club members? Drop me a line and let me know what you have been working on at 6pak60@comcast.net. That s all for now, hope to see you at a Fall Car event or the next meeting. Keep em Rollin Tom
