VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED FOR TRAINFEST SEPTEMBER 2013 I hope everyone has had a great summer. We will be doing a transition from outdoor summer events to model railroading with our September 15 meet at the Milwaukee Light Engineering Society s Live Steam Park. While we will not have a swap area, and no model contest (unless it s for equipment at the park) you will have a chance to enjoy the afternoon riding behind live steam equipment. This is also a great family event, so bring the family. On the topic of outdoor events, the Division s membership picnic at the Milwaukee County Zoo was great. A big thank you to Ed Varick and his helpers for making it another success. During the picnic Ed THE HEAD OWL HOOTS BY JOE RUSS announced that he has decided to step down as picnic chairman, but in two hours I had another member, Mark Willmering, approach me about volunteering for the position. Thank you, Ed, for your years of running the picnic, and thank you, Mark, for stepping up to take over. I also need to give a thank you to Ken Ristow, who had both of the zoo s steam locomotives operating for our visit there. Thank you, Ken. Now for the business side of things. At our October meet the membership will be voting on approving the updated Division constitution. Please go to the Division web site at www.wisedivision.org and read it over. PAGE 3 CONTEST CHAIR REPORT BY BONNIE JANKE The April meet was very exciting with all who came prepared to enter the WISE Division s Meet. We had several categories featured. We also had a very busy day in the contest room. It was great to see our youth group participating and we had two youth with entries into the contest. The youth group meetings are being held at the Waukesha County Gandy Dancers club facilities. I get a chance to talk with the youth about the WISE Division s Monthly Meets and to encourage them to place an entry into the contest. I have enjoyed the time I get to see and talk with the youth and to keep them informed as well as the other members of our WISE Division of things happening in the contest room. I wanted to let all know that we will not be having a regular contest at September meet, as we will be visiting a club which runs live steam equipment. There will be a contest for the Live Steam equipment on exhibit on that day. Hope to see all of you and your entries in the contest room at our October 2013 meet. PAGE 4 Sunday, September 15, 2013 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The first meet of the 2013 season will be at the Milwaukee Light Engineering Society s Railroad Park. It will run from 11 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and feature train rides at their facility. There will NOT be a swap area at this meet, and we will not have the regular model/photo contest room. However, we are planning on having judging of the equipment being operated and on display that day. As it isn t easy to bring equipment that size to the meet and the contest room, we are bringing a contest to them. So be sure to come to the meet and enjoying riding a model railroad for a change. Update on the Division Constitution The Constitution and Bylaw Committee has spent nearly 30 hours going over the Constitution. There will be some notable changes, including electing some board members every year, making the Chief Clerk and Paymaster appointed positions, and allowing for mail-in ballots. The membership will have to approve the new Constitution, and will do so at a special meeting at the October 20 meet. In the meantime, you can review the updated Constitution at the WISE Division s web site at www.wisedivision.org. Thank you to the committee for their many hours of work on this project.
