Minutes of the 14th AGM, held in 18 th March 2014 at Tomatin Distillery The minutes were unanimously accepted. 4. Matters Arising There were no matters arising 5. Chairman s Report 2014. Chairman Keith gave his Report, which is below: Welcome, I hope you have all recovered from last Friday s dinner? This AGM heralds the end my spell as Section Chairman. These 2 years have flown in and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. It was made a lot easier by my excellent committee. So let s take a rear view mirror and look back at the last year: 1. Our program of events: 1. Last March we had an A9 day with a visit to Cairngorm Brewery then Tomatin Distillery followed by a talk on Maturation by Graham Eunson with 34 in attendance 2. In Sept we had a day out in Rothes with visits to Glen Grant, the CORDe and Forsyths, followed by a talk on Forsyths activities, 42 members and guests attended. 3. In Oct we visited Stewart Brewing in Edinburgh followed by a visit to the ICBD for a get to know the new students, 25 attendees. 4. In November we had our Cereals Day with a visit to Burghead Maltings, then a trip around Roseisle Distillery followed by 2 lectures by Alan Brown and Keith Headridge on the 2014 harvest with 42 in attendance 5. In December we had a Glasgow Brewing Day with a visit to Tennents Wellpark brewery, then the Drygate Brewery followed by presentations by Scott Williams and Alex Speers attended by 25 members. 2
6. In January we had our Video Conference day at the ICBD with 3 presentations from Canada, Germany and England and 45 attendees 7. In February we had a visit to Perthshire, for a visit to Strathearn Distillery then Inveralmond Brewery, followed by a talk on Faba beans by Graeme Walker, 30 attendees for this event 2. WDSC In Sept we had the WDSC. Mark Kinsman and Ian Goodall and the organising committee did an excellent job of pulling together a fantastic programme and delivering it.. a. We have also had published in the BDI reports and pictures from the Rothes visit in Sept. b. We have a Life Long Learning Day for Distilling on 15 th April in Pitlochry. c. The Study Tour to Islay in May is oversubscribed. 8. Re IBD examinations and achievements. We have seen 95 Fundamentals and General Certificate candidates passing their exams. We also enjoyed 3 Diploma in Distilling candidates achieving success. In addition we have has 2 Diploma in Brewing passes. The Master in Distilling qualification will be available next year. The Diploma examinations are under review and will be updated and rebalanced. MCQ will be removed so just SAQ and LAQ. 9. Grants: as you are aware we have a Grants fund in place which is supported from the profits of the WDSC. In the last year we had awarded @ 8K and a further 14K committed so far over the next 2 years. We do try and spend this fund so if anyone has ideas for such funding please submit an application. Right that s my chairman s report over. Thank You for your patience. 6. Financial Report-2014 Brian presented the Financial Report for 2014 (Appendix 1, below) and reported that it had been examined by Lynne Bleakney and Gordon Steele and found correct. There were no questions on the Accounts. 7. Election of Office Bearers. Chairman: The Committee nominated Mark Kinsman, who was duly elected. Vice-Chairman: The Committee nominated Douglas Murray, who was duly elected Secretary: The Committee nominated Duncan Kellock, who was duly elected. Treasurer: The Committee nominated Brian Eaton, who was duly elected. Dinner Secretary: The Committee nominated Brian Eaton, who was duly elected. 3
8. Election of Ordinary Committee Members. Barry Harrison was duly elected to the committee. At the end of 2014 the Scottish Section bank account was at a healthy balance of 9898.00 although a donation of 2025 from the 2014 Dinner Raffle has yet to be paid to the IBG Benevolent Society, and 894.18 is owed in VAT to HMRC.
