MARYLAND RETREADS Ron & Sharon Richards, Reps. Allen & Donna Droneburg Asst. Reps 618 East Main Street 7904 River Run Ct. Thurmont, MD 21788 Frederick, MD 21701 sharonrichards1959@gmail.com pad5692@gmail.com & 301-271-5031 droneburg@aol.com 240-409-6589 Volume 19 Issue 8 August 2018 Well we asked for lot s sunshine for the July s breakfast and we certainly got it, along with hot temperatures, but it was a wonderful day. We had a great turnout for breakfast, we had 46 members, 8 CMA guests, and 3 small guests. Randy & Patti brought their granddaughter Addison, Ronnie & I brought Ryleigh and Collin. After breakfast we went outside and had a short meeting. After our meeting Pastor Nick and other members of the CMA were there to give blessing for us and our bikes. We thank them from the bottom of our hearts for performing these blessing for us. After the meeting and blessings, 11 bikes lined up to go on a scenic ride through Frederick & Carroll Counties led by Augie & Lynn, it was a very pretty ride and ended up at The Cow Ice Cream Shop in Westminister. Thank you Augie & Lynn for planning and leading this ride. Our next breakfast will be August 5th, after breakfast Dan Shafer will be leading a mystery ride. Welcome!! We would like to welcome 2 new members to the MD Retreads, John & Kim Daugherty. They attended our breakfast and joined the same day! Thanks to Hal & Dottie for spreading the word at the gas station, before our ride to Annie s. Dinner Out Our Dinner Out at the end of June was held at Trickling Springs Creamery in Chambersburg, 8 of us arrived and went in, before we could place our orders the electric went out, no lunch, just ice cream (what a shame) so we had ice cream and as we were coming out to leave Jeff & Patsy arrived. We then decided to go to Sunnyway Diner in Greencastle, for lunch, great food, great service. It was a good day afterall. July s Dinner Out was held on July 14th at May s Avenue in Gettysburg, we had 14 Retreads gather for a very good lunch, and it was also bike week in Gettysburg, we had a table by the window and could watch all the bikes coming and going. Great entertainment. Hobo s Dinner Out July 28th 5 of us rode to Hobo s Restaurant in Hyndman PA. It was a very nice ride, bright blue sky not extremely hot. We arrived at Hobos, had our lunch and then headed to Queen City Creamery in Cumberland. From there we rode through PawPaw West Virginia, and then into Berkely Springs, where we stopped at a Sheetz to take a stretch break and to say our goodbyes. It was a very enjoyable ride. Thanks to those who went. Ice Cream Social Our Ice Cream Social for July was at Dairy Queen in Gettysburg on July 14th, good ice cream, great fellowship, sitting at the picnic tables with a wonderful breeze blowing. Thanks to Louie & Dawn for leading us to Dairy Queen a different way so we wouldn t get stuck in all the traffic. A great afternoon, thanks to Augie & Lynn for planning the ice cream social. Ron & Sharon

MD Retreads Newsletter Page 2 OC Breakfast Ride On Monday July 16 th, Allen led a ride to Ocean City for a late breakfast or early lunch. 5 people, and 4 bikes headed for the beach. Arrived in OC around 10:30, parked at the inlet and walked up the Boardwalk to Brass Balls and had breakfast/ lunch. After seeing a bit of OC, they were on their way to Fenwick Island, where a popcorn stop was requested. After that they rode through Bethany Beach, and Dewey Beach, traveling thru Delaware to Rt. 50. Ran thru some very hard rain on Rt. 100, but after the rain it was an enjoyable ride home. A very enjoyable day. Thanks to Allen for planning and leading this ride. Great Job! Trip to Western PA Rally Submitted by Hal & Dottie We started out on a cloudy Sunday morning for the Western PA Rally. We met up with Craig & Jan in Greencastle. We stopped for breakfast at the Foot of the Mountain Restaurant. Before getting back on the bikes we had to put on our rain suits. We rode in the rain for about an hour. After the rain stopped and we took off the rain suits, we had dry weather the rest of our 300+ mile trip to the Quality Inn Motel in Erie, PA. The Quality Inn was nice and served our purpose well but we missed the nostalgia of the Riverside Inn. The food was delicious from the pizza & wings on Monday to the sliced roast beef & stuffed chicken breast at the banquet. Rally attendance was 102. Retreads traveled from the Mid West to the North East and Canada to attend. There were guided tours everyday or you could do your own thing. We made our annual trip to Great Eastern Cutlery so Hal could purchase a new pocket knife. We also went to the Jamestown Soap Factory so Jan and Dottie could restock their soap supply. Sorry Dan H. they were out of Lick Me All Over. Thursday we made our way back home (no rain suits). It was a fun time and we logged 1,100 miles on our trip. Ice Cream Social Thanks Augie and Lynn for planning these Friday August 31st 7pm Nutter s 100 E.
