MEDIA RELEASE 5 July 2011 IMMEDIATE ONE EVENT, THREE REGIONS, SIX BIG WINNERS... Harvest Cafe in Newrybar (Northern/New England), Nine, Pokolbin (Hunter) and Bells at Killcare, Killcare Heights (Central Coast) have been named the region s top places to dine in the 2011 Savour Australia TM Restaurant & Catering HOSTPLUS Awards for Excellence for the Northern New South Wales region. For the first time, one event was held to encompass the regions of Northern/New England, Hunter and Central Coast, with winners announced for each region. More than 200 restaurants and caterers whose businesses are located in the Northern region of the state were recognised at the ceremony last night (July 4) at the Civic Theatre, Newcastle to acknowledge excellence in food and service. Joining Harvest Cafe, Nine and Bells at Killcare in the winners circle were Bonville Golf Resort in Bonville (Northern/New England), The Glades Wedding & Conference Centre, Warners Bay (Hunter) and Reef Restaurant, Terrigal (Central Coast) who were named the respective region s Caterers of the Year. Only one of the winners of the Restaurant of the Year category and one of the winners of the Caterer of the Year category will move forward to compete with venues from across Australia in the National finals at Luna Park in Sydney on October 24 this year. Those chosen to compete in the National finals will be notified in the coming weeks. Restaurant & Catering CEO John Hart commented that the Awards for Excellence represent an important moment as the industry pauses to honour these outstanding venues who were reviewed on the whole dining experience rather than a single dimension. Northern New South Wales is home to some of the country s tourism and dining treasures. The restaurants and caterers reflect the rich use of regional produce making this region unique in comparison to other regions. The Awards for Excellence were judged by a team of trained judges who anonymously visited the venues to determine the winners. Restaurant & Catering represents 2,200 restaurants and caterers in NSW. Each year over 900 members are reviewed in the Awards for Excellence. Please note that not all winners will move on to compete in the National finals. The restaurant or caterer who received the highest score in the overall category (e.g. Breakfast Restaurant) will be notified shortly and will have the opportunity to compete with other establishments across Australia.
