Reps Rambling Page 2 Oh the joys of spring!!!. We should be looking forward to getting our bikes back on the road in the spring sunshine; there has been a serious lack of so called sunshine in last four weeks. The first ride-out on the calendar was the Whitstable Easter Egg run, 1 ST April, where we were joined by C13 and later by C15 and rode to Whitstable as a group. Some went on to Canterbury and some of us went to Herne Bay for lunch or afternoon tea. The following Sunday was an impromptu ride which saw six of us turn up at Boreham services, a bit chilly that time of the morning. Paula, our new member turned up on Winnie, her XV535. As this was going to be her first group ride and her longest without a stop, we decided we would go to the Silver Ball café on the A10 at Reed. We took the scenic route which included a few unlisted roads; to call them roads would be stretching the truth a bit, more like farm tracks with a hard surface with bits of that missing in places. We all enjoyed a good breakfast and went outside to admire all the other bikes that had turned up, not very warm but the sun was shining. Then it was off to Finchingfield for afternoon tea and cake where we met up with a few other C19 members who had decided to ride to Finchingfield. Paula really enjoyed the experience and cannot wait for the next ride-out. It was great to see such a good turn-out at the Anchor Pub for lunch, yes a lot of you did come in your cars, possibly that was to do with the weather, that s not a problem, I would rather you come in cars than not at all. The Southend Shakedown, very wet, saw one member turn up at Boreham, well done Joe, that was true biker spirit. Seven members turned up for the ride-out to Felixstowe where fish and chips were had on the seafront, unfortunately no one got home in the dry. The Bike-Safe show on Sunday 29 th was postponed until a later date due to the inclement weather. I will be in Holland for the Start of Season party this week, then two weeks later in Belgium for their National rally, and then at the end of the month to Lytham St.Annes for C6 rally. This is the first VSOC rally of only three this year. I know a lot of you have shown great interest in going to this rally, (C6 always put on a good rally) so look forward to seeing as many of you as possible. Things I do to have a drink and also to promote our rally. Saturday 22 nd September 2012. Saxon Warriors Charity Party, Eternit Sports and Social Club, Meldreth, Herts, SG8 5RL. Ticket price 5-00 per person Camping from Friday night, darts and pool competition Saturday afternoon, B.B.Q. Saturday night, also live band in the evening. Free tea and coffee. Any one interested in attending this event can contact Mark on 07724863266 for tickets. On behalf of C19 I would like to welcome our newest member Mark Savage to our centre. I know when you see him you will give him the usual warm welcome. Thanks to everyone who has renewed their membership for 2012, which to date is nearly all of you, final membership numbers will be in next months SEAX. Our web-site is now up and running www.essex-crusaders.org John

Page 3 Rideout to Felixstowe 22 nd April 8 of us left Langham services for a scenic ride to Felixstowe via Dedham, Lawford, Manningtree and all places in between, finally joining the main road just this side of the Orwell bridge. As we approached Felixstowe I was conscious that the temperature was getting colder, not a surprise really in view of the current drought situation!! We parked round by the public toilets, opposite the market and made our way to the chippy for a snack lunch, well a snack for some. Having consumed lunch it was time to make our way back to the bikes as the sky had become decidedly darker and by the time we got there the heavens opened with rain and hail which lasted about 15 minutes and then blew out to sea. A decision was made to leg it as fast as we could and once out of Felixstowe the roads were dry, as we approached Ipswich I noticed that the skies to the left and right were as black as soot but straight ahead was blue sky, but then I thought hmm we have to turn left at Ipswich and sure enough the sky ahead was black. It remained dry until we reached the new Community Stadium and it then let go, I slowed down and pottered along in the inside lane for about 2 minutes and as quick as it started it stopped, talk about April showers. It was nice to get out on the bikes, albeit a bit hit and miss with the weather. I am actually writing this report on Sunday 29 th April when once again due to the weather the Bike safe day at the new Community Stadium was cancelled, sorry to those that didn t know and made the journey there. Ta ta for now Peter

New Date Announced for Essex Motorcycle Show Page 5 Sunday 22 nd July 2012 at Weston Homes Community Stadium Essex Air Ambulance is delighted to announce the new date for the Essex Motorcycle Show at Weston Homes Community Stadium in Colchester is Sunday 22 nd July 2012. Due to the severe weather conditions forecast for Sunday 29 th April the decision was made to postpone the event; with predictions of heavy rain and winds of up to 55mph, safety had to come first for our exhibitors and supporters attending the Show. Wendy Marcon, Essex & Herts Air Ambulance Trust Events Manager, said: On behalf of the team at Essex Air Ambulance I would like to offer my sincere apologies to our supporters who were disappointed to find the Essex Motorcycle Show had been postponed and for any inconvenience caused as a result. We carried out a full consultation with the exhibitors and our partners at Essex Police the day before the event and in light of the adverse weather conditions forecast respected the concerns shown by our exhibitors of erecting gazebos and displaying brand new motorcycles in such dangerous conditions. Our decision was also determined by ensuring the safety of motorcyclists travelling to the event. Mick Green of Essex Police, adds: "It is a great shame that the Essex Motorcycle Show had to be cancelled due to the appalling weather. We work in partnership with Essex Air Ambulance on the event and following a consultation process, we fully support the organisers who had to make a difficult decision just before the event. We do believe the new date of 22nd July 2012 will now be even bigger as more exhibitors are coming forward to make this a fantastic motorcycle event. Come down to the home of Colchester United FC and support the all new re-branded Essex Motorcycle Show on Sunday 22 nd July when hopefully the sun will be shining! There will be various trade stands by major manufacturers including TK Cope Motorcycles, Cannon BMW, Jim Aim Motorcycles, Victory Motorcycles and a Japanese bike display, plus training schools CADAM, Total Advanced Training and EAMG make a return to the show along with a brand new slow riding competition. Motorcyclists will also have the opportunity to take part in an assessed ride out on one of the latest demo bikes and sign up to the Bike Safe Workshops; don t forget to bring your licence! The Safe n Sexy Show is back and is set to be bigger and better! Showcasing the latest protective clothing available, the show aims to highlight how riders can look really good and be safe at the same time! Scott Berry has come on board and kindly donated use of a stage and music for the fashion show plus don t miss a special dance performance by Ilaz Dance School. This is a great day out with fun activities for all the family, there is a bouncy castle for the children, refreshments and an opportunity to see a flyover by the Essex Air Ambulance and Essex Police Helicopter, subject to operations.
