AGENDA ITEM #7i) From: bennett@magma.ca [mailto:bennett@magma.ca] Sent: Friday, August 30, 2013 11:55 AM To: Frigon, Paul Cc: jallen@lanarkcounty.ca; mariew@county.lanark.on.ca Subject: Baird Trail Hello Paul, I took my group Mills Senior Support hike club to Baird Trail on Wednesday. The trail was great but the entrance grounds were wanting. The grass around parking lot and picnic site wasn t cut, giving lots of grounds for jiggers and deer ticks. Worse still, the toilets were out of order. As you know, with seniors, they need toilets. One of the staff with us swept it out and provided toilet paper for those desperate. The new signage (which was most informative) said the Trails Board was responsible for this trail. What worries me is that Lanark County Tourism advertises this trail as a destination. Doesn t look good on the County s copy book. Cliff Baird TrailVice President, Paul Frigona) Trailhead Faciliti... Page 5 of 10

AGENDA ITEM #7xi) Hi Les: We're making good progress on our riverside trail, and have almost completed another 1.1 km difficult section through the ravines behind the Naismith Farm to connect the trail up to Hwy 29. Barring any surprises or sustained bad weather, we are on track to reach Mill of Kintail this fall, for a total of about 8km of benched singletrack right from Almonte. In winter it will be rideable on fatbikes (lots of fun when ski conditions are poor!) Attached are some pics of the XC grooming equipment that Phil has and used at Guy Marchildon's farm last winter to create an excellent skate and classic training loop. Unfortunately there's not enough snow in the bush on our trail to be able to ski, but Phil would likely volunteer to groom the MVSC trail if there's interest. If not, we may see about grooming Mill of Kintail to Guy's farm, so there's an extended groomed route. Best regards, Jordan Riverside Trail Extension President, Les Humphreys Page 10 of 10
