CORPORATE MEMBERSHIP The Britain-Australia Society offers corporate membership to companies with commercial interests in Britain and Australia. Membership offers the opportunity to connect with other companies and individuals involved with the many aspects of the relationship between both countries. Britain is a partner for Australia in the Asia Pacific region as well as globally. Ours is a remarkably durable relationship, one that I can confidently say has its best days and its greatest opportunities still to come. RT. HON WILLIAM HAGUE MP, BRITISH FOREIGN SECRETARY APRIL 2013

About the Society During the Second World War British and Australian leaders in diplomacy, the military, industry and government worked closely together in adversity. The Australia Club was founded to formalise the bonds between our countries and create a lasting legacy of communication and co-operation. Under the guidance of Lord Carrington, the club was reformed within the background of a nascent European Union as The Britain-Australia Society, to reaffirm that this spirit continues to be strong and relevant. As the Australian High Commissioner to the UK recently said, Britain and Australia share more than just a special relationship, they share DNA. Links based on nostalgia would soon fade but the interweave between these two nations on historic, family, cultural, trade and sporting levels is as strong today as it ever has been and these ties are fed by a vibrant communication and easy familiarity of two equals. With the contribution of the Royal Patron, Presidents, Vice-Presidents, the Board of Management and Sponsors, the Britain-Australia Society has for more than forty years, celebrated and leveraged the many and varied connections between Australia and Britain. The Society through exceptional events introduces members to special experiences that might otherwise be impossible to access. Our well-placed contacts and supporters not only help to open doors but also to create a mentoring environment to nurture talented and aspiring youth. The Society organises many events for members each year ranging from social to formal. We have laughed at the anecdotes of wine experts at a tutored tasting and dined in black-tie with the Captain of HMS Victory on its gun deck, braved the ghosts of the Tower of London at night and taken cocktails on the terrace of the House of Lords. We also administer several education trusts, including the Britain-Australia Society Education Trust. In 2014 the BASET installed significant memorials in Bath and London to the memory of Admiral Arthur Phillip and is raising a bursary to fund scholarships which will further promote the mutual ties between Britain and Australia. Britain and Australia share more than just a special relationship; they share DNA. HE MIKE RANN CNZM, AUSTRALIAN HIGH COMMISSIONER TO THE UK FEB 2013

Our Aims The Society promotes and fosters, in the United Kingdom and Australia, the interests of both countries and in particular the mutual understanding of their people. Today, the Society has 800 members across Britain and with its affiliations it has a significant reach into the community of opinion makers involved in the many aspects of the Britain Australia relationship. We undertake projects to encourage the people of the United Kingdom and Australia to visit, gain experience and work in each country. We want to share our network and activity with Corporate Members who can assist in the funding of the Society and receive in return the significant benefits we believe will follow from an association with the Society. This big, diverse Australia Britain agenda reflects a big and burgeoning relationship, happy with its history, but full of contemporary purpose. GREG SHERIDAN, JOURNA LIST FOR THE AUSTRALIAN NEWSPAPER 8 MARCH 2014 In pursuit of its aims the Society will initiate, support and sponsor events, talks, seminars, meetings and functions to increase the two way flow of information and understanding between Britain and Australia.
