If you believe someone you know has gone missing, file a police report with local law enforcement. Provide the police with a photo of the missing person, along with any identifiers, such as scars, marks, tattoos, jewelry or clothing he/she was last seen wearing. Remember to write down the case number and the name of the officer who took the report. Also, contact us to assist you with the case. It is NEVER too early. Contact friends and acquaintances, check hospitals and coroners in the area. Check the local county jail, and social media sites. Also put up fliers with the missing persons photograph and description. It is recommended you not list your phone number on public posters, as to ensure no hoaxes for reward money, or any other harrassment occurs. The phone number to the police department should be used. Remember to ask people to spread the word, alert the local media, and consider hiring a private investigator. We are ADVOCATES for the Lost and Missing. We strive to give NAMES back to the lost, with an emphasis on cold cases to help them find their way HOME. 12 1

Lost and Missing in Indian Country February 2019 Lost and Missing in Indian Country will also be focusing more time on trying to help those individuals that are unidentified get identified and find their way home. We have a couple missing person cases where DNA is being analyzed and compared to unidentified cases. Lost and Missing in Indian Country is assisting the Skagit County (WA) Coroner s office with possible identification of Esther Maria Smith with UP #13305. On March 6, 2006 in Everett, Washington, Esther went for a walk one afternoon and never returned. She was 50 years old at the time of her disappearance. Lost and Missing in Indian Country is also Esther Maria Smith assisting law enforcement authorities in Yakima county with the entry of Karen Louise Johnley. Karen was last seen by a relative in Harrah, Washington on Nov. 1, 1987. This spring the remains of Parker Dam DOE, (UP#16335) discovered in 1988 will be exhumed for DNA collection. FEATURED HOMICIDE Faith Hedgepeth, an almost 20-year-old UNC college student and a member of the Haliwa- Saponi tribe from Hollister, was found bludgeoned to death in the apartment she shared with her roommate, Karena Rosario, on the morning of Sept. 7, 2012. Rosario and friend Marisol Rangel discovered the body. Some evidence in her case includes a threatening message on a take-out bag found in Faith s apartment, a broken rum bottle believed to be the murder weapon and semen found in a sex assault kit matching other DNA at the scene. Police believe it belongs to Hedgepeth s killer. The police released a sketch of Faith s killer based on that DNA. There s a $40,000 cash reward for information that could lead to an arrest.
