MAINSHEET Good Friends, New Beginnings http://www.corinthianslhp.com Corinthians of Lighthouse Point Our 52nd Year Number 1 Change of Watch: Sunday, November 4th, 2018 On November 4th, under beautiful sunny afternoon skies, the Corinthians celebrated the 52nd annual Change of Watch. Gaily decorated in full dress flags, nine members yachts paraded in front of the Club with their uniformed passengers saluting the outgoing Commodore Al Tupek and welcoming incoming Commodore Leslie Baron, who were standing on the face dock. Each boat was recognized with a blast from the cannon. Following the traditional Change of Watch ceremony outside by the clubhouse, which included the lowering of Commodore Al s flag and the raising of Commodore Leslie s flag, a total of 110 celebrants marked the occasion with a sumptuous dinner. Full of pomp, ceremony and tradition, it was a memorable Change of Watch 2018. 1

Commodore s Report: by Leslie Baron It s very exciting to be back as your Commodore and I will make the same commitment to you that I did two years ago - - that s to keep the Corinthians alive and strong. Having a dedicated Bridge and Board behind me will assist in fulfilling that commitment. Many challenges await us and I am hoping that you can ride through the changes with us because we are a great circle of friends and have a camaraderie that many clubs 52 years old don t have. That was definitely evident at our recent Change of Watch, with 9 boats in the parade and over 100 people at the ceremony and dinner reception. An event that large just doesn t happen. So again, I want to thank Fader Reichard, Lucy Feit and Roni Whipple. Governor and Activities Chairperson Roni Whipple has lots of fun events planned but we need volunteers to help her host them. If this is something that might interest you, but you re not sure you want to do it alone, you can have a co-chair. Also we need people to lead our weekend boating trips and you don t have to be a boater. Several marina locations have already been selected. Please contact me to offer your help. Without someone to take charge, we cannot offer such a varied activities calendar. Photographers are needed at each event so if you have an interest, we need your help. Lastly, thanks to Al Tupek and his outgoing Board of Governors and Bridge and to all of those who contributed by leading events, working ship s store, taking photos and/or attending activities. We had a great year and now it s time to plan ahead for making new friends and having fun together. Remember we are Corinthian Strong and we will work toward the theme this year Good Friends, New Beginnings. Information Meeting & BOG at Seaside Grill November 16 TH 52 nd year NUMBER 1 2

Membership Report: by Kathy Hall We are very excited to welcome our new members, Emily Guffin, Michael Golden and Steven Feibus and Patti Mondano. They passed their reading at our last Board of Governor s meeting. Please make sure you get to meet them and share your enthusiasm for the Corinthians. Steve Feibus and Patti Mondano are past club members. Steve is also an avid tennis player. Mike Golden is an avid fisherman and also enjoys playing tennis. Emily is a past Corinthian and we are pleased to welcome her back. Any Corinthian knowing of interested people who they would recommend for membership in the Corinthians are encouraged to direct the prospective new member to anyone on the membership committee: Kathy Hall 303-503-2529, Maureen Jacobson 954-415-6184, Miriam Maguire 954-946-2114 Fun Times 3

Faro Blanco Cruise October 25th 29th On a beautiful day with flat seas, five boats cruised to Ocean Reef on Thursday, October 25th. Thanks to Laura Burton we were welcomed into Ocean Reef with their usual hospitality. Do you know that guests are only allowed twice in five years? We ate at their wonderful Giannis restaurant, along with other couples who drove down. At Giannis, there was an unintentional swapping of golf carts. The trip to Faro Blanco was a challenge due to numerous lobster traps that caused our trip to be an obstacle course. Three boats picked up lobster trap lines on their propellers. On Friday, we were joined by two more Corinthian members boats. Thirty six Corinthians attended dinner at the Lighthouse Grill on Friday night. A big thank you to Laura Burton for arranging a fun dinner. Saturday, we journeyed to Fantasy Fest in Key West. After a delay caused by a bus breaking down, thirty of us left Faro Blanco around 2:00. Many thanks go to Michael Baron who organized the bus. We actually arrived back at Faro Blanco by 11:00 PM. Rumor has it that Kathy had a little problem with the smell in the bathroom, but Michael had it fixed. Some Corinthians travelled back Sunday, Monday, and two boats stopped on the way home at Ocean Reef. A fun time was had by all. 4

Meet the New Members - Thursday, November 8 th The New Members Reception was well attended with more than 50 people at Galuppi s on November 8th. Fourteen new members were introduced and had an opportunity to tell other Corinthians a bit about themselves. A very tasty buffet dinner was served and dinner was accompanied by music for dining and dancing. It was a fun night. 52 nd year NUMBER 1 7

Williams Island November 16th to 18th Our first boating weekend of the year was held at beautiful Williams Island in Aventura. There were 5 boats and a few people who drove down. The weather and seas were perfect. Friday night, 21 people dined in a private room at the resort. Cocktails were hosted by Carl and Marlene Coppola on their boat for a wonderful happy hour. Saturday morning coffee and breakfast treats were served in the Marina s private meeting room, followed by tennis and an afternoon of shopping at the Aventura Mall and spa treatments for the ladies. The men met by the pool for lunch and social chatter. Later that evening 18 Corinthians dined at Sea Grille Restaurant in a beautifully Greek designed private room. A wide variety of food and cocktails were served, followed by complimentary lemoncello drinks. The marina offers so many amenities including fine dining, a poolside café, indoor and outdoor pools, tennis, a full spa and gym. The Corinthians enjoyed them all. 8
