ISSUE 5 MAY 2013 RAILWAY CRAFTSMEN NEWS Newsletter of the Railway Craftsmen's Association of New Zealand 2013 PICTON MEETING REPORT A very successful event was held in Picton to conduct a 2nd Degree on a railway candidate, Brother Scott Pickering, who works at the Blenheim Freight Centre. VWBro Phil Wagener acted as Master for the ceremonial and several RCA brethren assisted throughout the ceremony. A General Meeting was also held and the minutes appear later in this issue. Several brethren travelled over by ferry from the North Island and there was also strong support from South Island brethren for this event. The meeting was conducted at The Waitohi Lodge No.111 in Devon Street, Picton. An officers list and more details are on Page 2. Brunch was held at Sue and Allan Becks house on Sunday morning before the North Island brethren caught the ferry back to Wellington. Thanks go to WBro Rowdy Robertson for organising the logistics, Bro Jonathan Brunton for looking after us on the ferry. WBro Allan Beck and his wife Sue for hosting the brethren at the Sunday brunch, all the brethren who participated in the working, the Master and Officers of The Waitohi lodge No.111 for hosting us, WBro Kerry Spinks for the photos and (last but not least) Bro Scott - who checked himself out of hospital just in time to attend the ceremony! Sunday Brunch Left - The Railway Craftsmen Officers line up L-R VWBro Wagener, WBro Lockyer, WBro Mail, WBro Mayo, WBro Beck, WBro Robertson, WBro Gibbs, RWBro Workman. VWBro Wagener issued each warden with Gavels and also note the Deacons wands which are crafted in the shape of whale harpoon tips.

50 YEAR SERVICE AWARD Right Worshipful Brother David Marshall - Past Deputy Grand Master RWBro. Marshall was presented his 50 Year service award by VWBro. Mike Kendrick PDistGM at Lodge Awatea No. 258 in Palmerston North on the evening of Thursday 2nd May 2013. The lodge room was packed with brethren and ladies for the ceremony which was testimony this very popular Brother. Many Railway Craftsmen were in attendance and greetings were given in open lodge from the Railway Craftsmen s Association. Railway Craftsmen s Association of New Zealand General Meeting Minutes (draft until confirmed) Minutes of the Ad Hoc General Meeting of the Railway Craftsmen s Association of New Zealand held at The Waitohi Lodge No.111, Picton at 1430hrs on Saturday 16 March 2013. Present: Some 19 members were in attendance Chairman s Welcome The chairman (WBro Tony Rich) welcomed all members to the meeting and thanked them for their attendance and thanked all those doing charges in the upcoming 2 nd Degree working. He commented that he would be standing down at the 2013 AGM Meeting. Apologies WBro Nicholson, WBro McRoberts, RWBro Polkinghorne, WBro Smith, RWBro Marshall, WBro Fox, all Lodge Waitohi RCA members (who were inside the lodge room opening the lodge). General Business Upcoming Meetings There was the possibility of an installation and AGM in early November. This would be conformed and advised to all members. WBro Rich would be installed in to the chair of Hawkes Bay Daylight lodge in February 2014. Details to be advised. Station Bell WBro Lockyer commented regarding the Paekakariki Station Bell. Ho had met with the family of one of the brother associated with this bell and it was their wish that the bell be returned to the Station Museum. A case would be made for the bell and a plaque attached. This would be paid for by arrangement between the family and the Railway Craftsmen s Association. WBro Douglas would liaise with the museum, WBro Lockyer would liaise with the family and VWBro Wagener would liaise with the NZ Army to see if they wanted any involvement. This was Moved WBro Lockyer, Seconded WBro Wolfsbauer and Carried. Tablet Donation WBro Lockyer donated an Ohau - Bluff tablet to the Association to be given to all RCA Masters being installed. This was gratefully received. Meeting Closed 1447hrs KEEP IN TOUCH! Brethren - please keep in touch with the Secretary/Treasurer regarding any workings or bereavements of Railway Craftsmen. Please also bear in mind that RCA members can be presented an Installed Master s apron on being installed in to the chair of King Solomon for the first time. Advice to the Secretary/ Treasurer means that details can be distributed amongst the membership. We rely on YOU to be our eyes and ears out there! Your assistance would be appreciated. Important - please send photos of any event you attend to the Secretary/Treasurer for inclusion in this magazine!
