One cannot and must not try to erase the past merely because it does not fit the present. ~ Golda Meir An Old Article from Popular Science 1956: He makes mascots for over-age automobiles Thanks to the fast-growing fraternity of Classic-car fans - car collectors who feel that no really fine automobile was manufactured before 1925 nor after 1942 - business is booming for Don Clairemonte, a New York City sculptor. Clairemonte's business is supplying the owners of Cords, Duesenbergs, Stutzes and other classics with authentic replicas of missing radiator ornaments. A Classic-car fan himself and proud owner of a well restored '33 Chrysler Imperial, he can turn out a chrome-plated bronze copy of just about any Classic radiator ornament-the fans call them "mascots" - from an Isotta Fraschini winged man for $65 to an Auburn girl for $15. The mascots are from Cairemonte's collection of originals, which he uses as patterns. Intended especially for those of us who enjoy getting on the road with our Classics, it will definitely be a tour to remember. It all begins at the historic Lafayette Hotel in Marietta Ohio. Just scratching the surface, we travel to a number of wonderful sites including Blenko Glass, hosted by Walter and Patty Blenko, the Bill Davis collection, along with a dinner with Bill at his private club Saturday evening. We suspect it has filled up, but if you have any last minute questions, please contact Jim @ jsc7843@aol.com or 440-439-4411. Driving Tour, Historical Society And Museum On September 20 Please mark your calendar for Sunday Sept. 20th for a fun and exciting day, planned for ORCCCA members and guests. We will meet at 10:30 am at D and R Bagels in the Solon Square Shopping Center. At 11:00 am, we will leave on a driving tour through the Cleveland Metroparks, wending our way into Bedford, Ohio. In Bedford, we will visit the Bedford Historical Society and museum, which has numerous artifacts and displays about the history of this vital area and the role it played in the development of Cleveland's early days. Following our visit to the museum, we will drive to the Glenwillow Grille in Solon, where we will have a visual presentation and talk about the attractions of some of the better known amusement parks, including Euclid Beach, Geauga and Chippewa Lakes. Dinner following, of course. http://www.glenwillowgrille.com/ Detailed flyer soon, but for now please put SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 20 on your calendar. This tour is hosted by the Rosenthals, and as always, a great time.
