Congratulations to all of our members that took home awards this year. October will still have many things to plan on attending with several special ones that I hope we can have a large turn out for. October 5th is Jelly Belly, with the Wounded Warrior Car and on the 7th at Napa Ford. We leave for Olema on the 11th for our Annual Camping Trip and hope those that are not camping will join us on Saturday the 12th for our annual Olema Pot Luck. Our meeting this month is October 8th. We will have nominations for our 2014 officers. Special appearance of the Wounded Warrior Mustang will also be at our meeting, (Thank you Kirk and Dan). If you are interested in a board position please come and let us know. We will be voting on the nominations at the November meeting so I hope you will join us for that one too. This will also be the last meeting to sign up for the Reno Train Trip in January (17-20). 125.00 round trip per person and should be paid at the next meeting so I can get a full count. I would love to have as any members and their friends and/or family come along, we have a great time. Congratulations to our Foster Freeze Show and Shine winner - MIKE BIGGS, with his 57 Chevy Pickup winning a professional photo shoot. Thank you to all the members that supported Foster's the last 3 months, they truly appreciated us stepping up. Now that it is fall, it's time to slow down a bit and take in all the beauty of the fall colors in the valley. Don't forget to bring raffle prizes for our monthly drawing. Happy Cruising, Tammy

Fun Facts TRIVIA QUESTION In what year did Chevrolet experiment with an air-cooled engine that used copper cooling fins? JOKE OF THE MONTH A blonde woman was speeding down the road in her little red sports car and was pulled over by a woman police officer who was also a blonde. The blonde cop asked to see the blonde driver s license. She dug through her purse and was getting progressively more agitated. What does it look like? she finally asked. The policewoman replied, It s square and it has your picture on it. The driver finally found a square mirror in her purse, looked at it and handed it to the policewoman. Here it is, she said. The blonde officer looked at the mirror, then handed it back saying, OK, you can go. I didn t realize you were a cop. The Pope goes to New York, and gets picked up at the airport by a limousine. He looks at the beautiful car and says to the driver, "You know, I hardly ever get to drive. Would you please let me?" The driver is understandably hesitant and says, "I'm sorry, but I don't think I'm supposed to do that." But the Pope persists, "Please?" The driver finally lets up, "Oh, alright, I can't really say no to the Pope." So the Pope takes the wheel, and boy, is he a speed demon! He hits the gas and goes around 100 mph in a 45 zone. A policeman notices and pulls him over. The cop walks up and asks the Pope to wind the window down. Startled and surprised, the young officer asks the Pope to wait a minute. He goes back to his patrol car and radios the chief. Cop: Chief, I have a problem. Chief: What sort of problem? Cop: Well, you see, I pulled over this guy for driving way over the speed limit, but it's someone really important. Chief: Important like the mayor? Cop: No, no, much more important than that. Chief: Important like the governor? Cop: Way more important than that. Chief: Like the president? Cop: Much more important. Chief: "Who's more important than the president?" Cop: "I don't know but he has the Pope DRIVING for him!" Trivia Question Answer GM research chief Charles Kettering, who invented the self-starter, advocated for an air-cooled engine that was supposed to be lighter and cheaper than a conventional water-cooled engine and had fewer parts and greater performance. The air-cooled unit used copper cooling fins and was installed in the 1923 Chevrolet. Of the 500 or so copper-cooled cars that left the factory, 100 ended up in the hands of customers. Detonation problems were so bad that GM bought them all back (netting all but two) and eventually dumped many of the cars in Lake Erie. Luckily, the company had hedged its bets by also offering a water-cooled engine.

The Napa Care Center asked the Napa Valley Cruisers to put on a display for their guests and residents. On Thursday, September 19th a group of us took the time to accommodate them. The weather was great and so was the BBQ lunch. They really made us feel at home and it was very nice to see the reaction to our cars. I know seeing the cars brought back a lot of memories for all of them. A Big Thank You to: Louie Moore, Marilyn Budde, Keith Fiegle, Dave Silveira, John and Jean Kelly, Bob Kennard, Kirk Stafford, Bill Hogberg, Rob Schmidt, and special thanks to Tony McGrath for driving our Mustang so I could bring the Mercury.
