Serviced campsites* $18* adult; $9 cild Serviced campsites ave a wide range of facilities and services: flus toilets, tap water, kitcen/cooking benc, ot sowers, rubbis collection and road access for all types of veicles. Laundry facilities, BBQs, fireplaces, cookers and picnic tables may be provided. Scenic campsites* $13* adult; $.50 cild Tese campsites are in ig use locations and ave a more limited range of facilities and services tan Serviced campsites: toilets, water supply (tap, stream or lake) and veicle or boat access. Booking and paying fees Bookings are required for all Serviced campsites and for some Scenic and Standard campsites in peak season (usually 1 October 30 April). Most bookings can be made at www.booking.doc.govt.nz or at a DOC Visitor Centre. Were bookings are not required, pay fees via te selfregistration system at te campsite, or at a Visitor Centre. Tese campsites operate on a first come, first served basis. Fees are generally carged per person per nigt, and reflect te level of facilities and services provided. DOC rangers patrol camping areas and will ceck tat fees ave been paid. 2

At te campsite Campsites and dogs Dogs are not permitted at Conservation Campsites unless te dogs permitted or dogs on a leas symbol is present. Wit most campsites located in or near protected areas it is important to keep your dog under control. Even te most obedient dog as te potential to kill wildlife. Dog owners wo take teir dogs into dog-proibited campsites or controlled areas witout a permit, or breac te conditions of teir permit, are liable to prosecution. Controlling your dog also respects oter people s rigts to use and enjoy te outdoors. Find places tat can take your dog at www.doc.govt.nz/camping. Take your rubbis wit you DOC operates a Pack in, Pack out policy at most campsites tere are no rubbis or recycling facilities. Campers sould plan to take teir rubbis away wit tem. No unautorised drones An autorisation is required from DOC to use drones on public conservation land or near marine mammals for any reason including private use. To apply, visit www.doc.govt.nz/drones. Fire risk Open fires are no longer permitted at most campsites unless in a DOC-designated fireplace or firepit. Ceck te rules at your campsite. Protect our wildlife from disease Some of tese campsites are in areas were native species are vulnerable to disease. You can prevent disease from spreading by following some simple precautions, including cleaning gear before and after entering tese areas. Look for notices at te campsites and local DOC Visitor Centres for details. Didymo is an exotic alga tat invades waterways. Tis microscopic pest can be spread by a single drop of water. Even if you can t see it, you could be spreading it. A large number of Conservation Campsites are near rivers and lakes, so always remember to Ceck, Clean, Dry all footwear, bicycles, veicles, fising equipment and oter items before entering, and wen moving between, waterways. and from invasive pests Some special campsites are located on islands free of most of our invasive pest animals and plants. We rely on you to elp keep tem tis way. Inspect and clean your tent and oter camping gear torougly before leaving ome and between locations. Remove any mud (ceck te pegs and peg bag), sand, plant material, insects or animals suc as mice or rats, Argentine ants and plague (rainbow) skinks and don t forget to ceck inside your tent. It s also important to ceck your cloting and footwear for weed seeds and soil before and after eac trip. If you re taking a boat or kayak, ceck tese too. DOC staff may make biosecurity cecks of your footwear and gear wen you arrive on an island to ensure your gear is pest free. WEST COAST 1 Koaiai 50 Tis is a seltered campsite at te mout of te Kōaiai River, wit beautiful nīkau forest nearby. Directions: Nort of Karamea at te end of Council Road and te start of te Heapy Track. Access: Last 3 km gravel road. Poto: Sellie Evans LATITUDE: -41.10952 LONGITUDE: 172.10254 STANDARD 2 Lyell 18 Te site of te gold-rus town of Lyell, tis is a large, grassed campsite wit istorical gold workings nearby. Directions: On SH in te Upper Buller Gorge, 15 km norteast of Inangaua. Access: Sealed. LATITUDE: -41.7997 LONGITUDE: 172.04899 STANDARD 3 Slab Hut Creek 18 Once a gold mining area, tis is now a popular camping site in a park-like setting next to a goldpanning stream. Directions: Off SH7 on Slab Hut Creek Road; 10 km sout of Reefton. Access: Gravel road. Note: Be prepared for eavy West Coast rainfall. WEST COAST 4 Marble Hill 20 Explore tis valley s alpine beauty and native birds in amazing red beec forests; Maruia Hot Springs are nearby. Directions: Beside SH7,.5 km east of Springs Junction. Access: Sealed. LATITUDE: -42.3502 LONGITUDE: 172.22319 STANDARD 5 Goldsboroug 40 Explore tis seltered campsite, te site of an old gold mining town, and try your luck fossicking in te creek. Directions: Turn off SH at Awatuna, 17 km from Hokitika. Follow Stafford Loop Road to end. Access: Gravel road. LATITUDE: -42.758 LONGITUDE: 171.12339 STANDARD Hans Bay 40 A large, grassy lake-front campsite beside beautiful Lake Kaniere. Directions: 19 km souteast of Hokitika. From Kaniere, follow Lake Kaniere Road to end. Take Doroty Falls Road at fork, follow to Hans Bay. Access: Sealed. LATITUDE: -42.80872 LONGITUDE: 171.15481 STANDARD 7 Lake Mainapua 100 Camp beside Lake Mainapua, a popular overnigt and day stop, in stunning forest surroundings. Directions: 10 km sout of Hokitika, turn off SH into Lake Mainapua Access Road, opposite te otel; 300 m to road end. Access: Gravel road. 8 Lake Iante Matai 12 Camp beside one of Westland s forest-lined freswater lakes, popular for boating, trout fising and swimming. Directions: Adjacent to SH, 15 km nort of Hariari. Sort driveway off SH. WEST COAST LATITUDE: -43.002 LONGITUDE: 170.3395 STANDARD 9 Otto s/macdonalds 20 Boat, fis for trout or swim in te lake at tis easily accessible campsite. Directions: SH, 13 km nort of Franz Josef/Waiau at te nortern end of Lake Mapourika. Sort driveway off SH. LATITUDE: -43.2981 LONGITUDE: 170.22522 SCENIC 10 Gillespies Beac 8 Camp near an old gold mining settlement and a seal colony. Sort tracks lead to relics from te gold mining days. Directions: From Fox Glacier townsip turn onto Cook Flat Road and follow te road to Gillespies Beac. Access: Narrow, winding road; not suitable for campervans or caravans. LATITUDE: -43.40805 LONGITUDE: 19.8282 STANDARD 11 Lake Paringa 12 Enjoy boating, fising and swimming in te lake and walk te Haast to Paringa Cattle Track. Directions: Beside SH, 40 km nort of Haast. At te campsite Camping care code Be a careful camper and practise no trace camping. Coose your campsite carefully; set up your camp on firm, ig or sandy ground. Camp only in designated areas. Be tidy and always leave campsites clean. Take your rubbis wit you if bins are not provided. Use a cooker, fireplace or BBQ. Ligt fires only were allowed, collect dead wood and keep te fire small. Soak te fire wit water before you go. Detergents, soap and tootpaste can arm aquatic and marine life. Use biodegradable products and was in a container well away from water sources. Always use toilets provided. Campgrounds are social places but everyone needs some rest and relaxation. Please respect te rigts of oters for quiet enjoyment of te outdoors. Limit generator use (were permitted) between 9 pm and 8 am. Pay your fees to elp keep campsites available in te future. Always torougly clean your equipment before and after trips to minimise te spread of weeds and diseases. Protect native plants and animals. Beware of tieves Remember to lock your veicle and take your valuables wit you.
