DAY 4 TARANGIRE TREE TOPS TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK Get ready to enter a wilderness full of elephants as you wildlife view through Tarangire National Park on your way to Tarangire Tree Tops. Tarangire is famous for elephants and hosts the largest and most conspicuous populations in East Africa. Between the Tarangire River and the southern swamps, there is ample water yearround to grow food for these huge creatures. After all, elephants eat 220 to 440 pounds (100 to 200 kgs) a day, depending on their size. You ll observe unique elephant behavior along the Tarangire River when many elephant families, as well as numerous other species, gather together. Your Land Cruiser is equipped with a set of reference books so that when you identify a new animal, information and pictures are at your fingertips. DAY 5 TARANGIRE TREE TOPS TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK Schedule your wildlife viewing today as you choose with your guide. Now your learning opportunities will shift to spotting and tracking skills. While wildlife can never be scheduled, the marsh ecosystem along the Tarangire River often attracts a variety of wildlife and many birds. In Tarangire you will never go long without seeing zebra, wildebeest, water buck, warthogs, giraffe, dik diks, Thompson s gazelle, buffalo, hartebeest, baboons, and vervet monkeys. The big cats, particularly lions and leopard love the large spaces and hidden places created by the rolling savanna. You typically do not see cheetah in Tarangire because the rolling hills do not allow them the speed they need to hunt their prey. DAY 6 PLANTATION LODGE NGORONGORO CONSERVATION AREA Today you will see an array of rapidly changing environments as you drive from Tarangire National Park to Ngorongoro Conservation Area. As you get closer to the Conservation Area gates, dry plains will turn into lush coffee plantations and tropical vegetation. Once there, you ll meet up with Sanguyan Kimani Ole Dorop ( Ole Dorop, a regional Maasai clan leader. Ole Dorop has spent his whole life here on the slopes of Mount Lemagut, where the Maasai and wildlife share its gentle slopes. Ole Dorop will walk with you to show you his homestead which is nearby. You ll meet his family, learn about his village life, and hear about many other aspects of this proud and traditional culture. The Maasai are pastoralists so you will have the opportunity to meet the cattle and goats owned by the family as they come in from grazing and into the enclosures for safety at night. Swimming Pool By late afternoon, you ll make your way to Plantation Lodge near Karatu, just outside of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. As you climb upwards in elevation, note the changes in vegetation as savannas disappear into lush, tropical vegetation. Traditional Maasai homesteads are abound, look for young herders leading their cattle along roadways. Arrive at Plantation Lodge in time to enjoy an evening swim in the pool and a delicious farm to table dinner.
DAY 7 PLANTATION LODGE NGORONGORO CONSERVATION AREA Beverly Joubert Descend down to the Crater floor for a full day of spectacular wildlife viewing in the expansive environment of this now-extinct volcano. The Crater floor is mostly grasslands, so wildlife visibility is excellent, providing a wonderful opportunity for photography. Your guide will open the hatch on top of your vehicle so you can stand for a full 360 degree view of the abundant animal and bird-life all around you. The sheer diversity and density of wildlife is what makes the Crater a must-see destination. Herds of buffalo, zebra, gazelle, and wildebeest mingle together as they graze on the short grasses. Families of baboons sit grooming one another, while ostriches peck the ground for roots and seeds. Prides of lions survey their territory, while scavengers like hyenas and vultures scout for leftovers. The soda lake attracts countless pink and white flamingos, and siting of rhino are also common. Swimming Pool Stop for lunch at the Hippo Pools where hippos and elephants wade into the watering holes for a mid-day bath. Return to Plantation Lodge for dinner and sample their extensive wine collection. TANZANIA WITH KIDS 888.658.7102

Once you enter the Serengeti, you will begin wildlife viewing as you travel the distance to Dunia Camp in the central Serengeti. DAY 9 DUNIA CAMP SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK African Tori Bush Camps Peglar Dunia Camp is in the Seronera area of the Serengeti. The permanent water in the Seronera River means this is a wildlife rich area year-round. Depending on the time of year, Dunia can be a great vantage point to one of the greatest natural spectacles on earth the annual Serengeti Migration. The migration includes vast herds of wildebeest, but also zebra and Thomson s gazelle which move across the open plains between Kenya and Tanzania based on seasonal rains. Today you can wildlife view as you choose until sunset. Journey to the Singing Rocks, which are ancient painted stones that make a clear bell like tone when struck. The Maasai used these rocks to talk to their ancestors. While there, you can give it a try yourself. Alcohol and Beverages Laundry TANZANIA WITH KIDS 888.658.7102
DAY 10 DUNIA CAMP SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK Today you ll be scouting for cheetah in one of the last cheetah strongholds in the world. The Serengeti savannas, with their open country and grasslands, support a healthy cheetah population. Cheetahs face increasing pressure from humans and land encroachment with only 9,000 to 12,000 left in the African wild, but here it is not uncommon to see them darting across the plains or out with young cubs. Predator viewing around Dunia Camp is spectacular, as the rocky outcrops serve as shady vantage points for big cats. Lion prides in particular love to beat the equatorial heat there. You will cross through a number of pride territories during your Serengeti travels. During migration season, the lions prosper with sufficient food to feed all of the pride members. But once the herds migrate north into Kenya, the resident wildlife becomes the prime target; territory and hunting skills become the means of survival. Alcohol and Beverages Laundry Robert Wheeler
