I hope everyone had an enjoyable Easter. It is great to see all our students return from the Easter holidays energised and ready to learn. Term One certainly was a busy term where great goals were achieved. I truly cannot wait to see what we gains can be made this term. Term Two is already shaping up to be very busy with report cards and Windorah Sports Camp to name a few. In the last week of Term 1 we farewelled Miss Mawn. I would like to congratulate Miss Mawn on her new appointment as permanent Principal at Gindie State School. Miss Mawn will be missed by the school and community. I am Acting Principal for the first two weeks of the term whilst waiting for further information as to who will lead the school from then onwards. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. Looking forward to seeing you all at the Isisford ANZAC Day Commemorations. Belinda Waterford Acting Principal 1

FAREWELL I hope that everyone had a Safe and Happy Easter break, with not too many chocolates under the belt! It is with great sadness that this is the last newsletter that I will write for Isisford. At the end of Term 1 I was appointed to be the Principal at Gindie State School commencing Term 2, which of course means over the holidays I have moved away from Isisford. This was a difficult decision to make, however I don t think that there would have ever been a time where it was easy as I have absolutely loved my time here in Isisford with these wonderful students. We have had some great adventures together and made some fun memories. Now that I have worked in a rural community and in a small school, I can hand on heart say, they are by far the greatest schools in our system. The relationships that can be built and the individual learning is incredible and I would challenge anyone to say otherwise! Isisford has been a wonderful community to be a part of. I have thoroughly enjoyed my experiences; learning to fish, experiencing the wonderful fishing competition, getting used to the muddy Barcoo between my toes, our ANZAC day commemorations, the Race Day and Sheep and Wool Show. I thank you for your hospitality and support throughout my time here, and will take Isisford with me in my heart on my next adventure. I wish all of the students at Isisford the best of luck moving forward and into their futures, they truly are a unique bunch of young people and I anticipate seeing them flourish into world! TAMIKAH MAWN ANZAC DAY LUNCHEON Hosted by the Isisford State School P&C The P&C would like to invite you to attend the ANZAC Day Luncheon after the Service in Isisford We would also like to please call for donations of desserts and sweets for the day. Any support you could provide would be greatly appreciated. ANZAC DAY GOLF Please join us on Anzac Day at 2.30pm (after lunch in the Hall) For 9 holes of golf Followed by a BBQ at 7.00pm $10.00 / person Dessert $4.00 / person MASS Multi-denominational service Every 1st Sunday of the Month Sunday 7th May,, 2017 ISISFORD CHURCH 10.30 AM EVERYONE WELCOME ISISFORD FISHING COMPETITION To keep attracting visitors to our beautiful town we need your help! Would you like to help in sponsoring our Fishing Competition. It s a fantastic weekend where you can try and catch that big yellowbelly, meet up with old friends and family and even make new friends. If you would like to sponsor please ring either Sally Edwards or Lisa Littlewood 0427588069: llittlew@bigpond.net.au. VALE: MRS ELLEN BRUNCKHORST A LONG TIME YARAKA/ISISFORD DISTRICT RESIDENT ELLEN BRUNCKHORST PASSED AWAY 27/3/2017 AGED 92 YRS OLD Ellen & Fred Brunckhorst moved to "Sunbury" Isisford on 31/3/1960 after Fred drew the block in a ballot where they remained until they retired to Longreach. When Ellen and Fred moved to Sunbury they had no power or phone. Ellen had a wood stove for cooking a kerosine lamps for light, kerosine fridge and had to iron using Potts irons. She helped Fred with drafting and lamb marking on the property, as well as briefly teaching Dorothy & Rob school. Life improved for her with the arrival of a 32 volt lighting plant and a party line phone. The original home was a two bedroom cottage and over time the house was extended and 240 volt power was supplied. This made life easier on the property. Ellen loved her pot plants and vegetable garden, and many people enjoyed the fruits of her labour, she established citrus trees around the house and it became an oasis in the desert during times of drought. She raised funds for the RFDS and the Blackall ambulance by holding stalls at the gymkhanas at Isisford and Yaraka. She received the Pioneer Award on Australia Day in 1993 for her efforts. She had 6 Grandchildren & 10 Great Grandchildren. She will be interred in the Longreach Cemetery beside Fred on Friday 31/3/17 (57 yrs to the day after coming to Sunbury) 2
