SCLR Event Oceano Dunes SVRA (Pismo Beach) September 19-20, 2009 When: Where: What: September 19 nd and 20 th Oceano Dunes SVRA Pismo Beach, California Sand Dunes, camping, games, food, driving challenges, and more?? Oceano Dunes is the only place in California where it is legal to drive on the beach. Approx. 1500 acres of sand dunes for you to explore and nearly 5 miles of beach front camping. http://ohv.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=1207 Typically we like to camp out in the dunes away from all the raucous. There is no curfew in Oceano Dunes so it is not uncommon to hear motorcycles, quads, sand rails, buggies, trucks, and yes, even Rovers at ALL hours of the night. For this reason we like to choose a secluded area to help minimize these intrusions and create somewhat of a safety buffer for families and children and pets. The Camp site will be at either Cottonwood or Eucalyptus Tree Campgrounds, which are located inland in the dunes. They are fairly close to one another, so look for the campground that has land rovers in it, as it will be your destination and our camp. These areas are ideal since they provide some refuge from the chaos and have restroom facilities close by (sorry no showers though) Camping must be reserved ahead of time! This is important. I don t expect the dunes to get full since it is not a holiday weekend but either way, it is a possibility so reservations should be made ASAP!!!! Please go to the Reserve America website at www.reserveamerica.com to enter dates. Camping is $10.00 per night and a $7.50 reservation fee. You will also need to register for an account with Reserve America to do so. You MUST be sure to reserve camping and select the PROPER campground "Oceano Dunes SVRA, CA" - All others are campgrounds outside the dunes locally and NOT the same. When you make your reservation, it is considered an "open" or "non-specific - off road vehicle site" type camping and you will NOT select a specific site number. To be safe, use this link when making your reservations: http://www.reserveamerica.com/camping/oceano_dunes_svra/r/campgrounddetails.do?contractcode=ca&parkid=120065&top TabIndex=CampingSpot Itinerary: (feel free to come up on the 18th, or 19th) Friday September 18th Camp arrivals all day long- 8am -? Just do it, you don t want to be the guy stuck in the sand just to have a road car, Jeep, H2 stop and say Air down to 15psi. Once aired down, head south along beach until the dunes begin turning it any opening. The speed limit here is 15mph, please adhere to it. There are riders, people walking, etc. all along the beach. Once away from highways you may increase speed. Please be cautious however if this is your first time in the dunes as there are whoopdee-doo s and sudden drop offs. You will need to use GPS coordinates below to find the camp. If you get lost, call one of us and we will find you based on your coordinates at that time. DO NOT move after giving us your location.
