AGNI V successful test India on Sunday successfully test-fired it s indigenously developed nuclear-capable Long Range Ballistic Missile Agni-5, which has a strike range of 5,000 km, off the Odisha coast. The surface-to-surface missile was launched with the help of a mobile launcher from launch pad-4 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Dr Abdul Kalam Island in the Bay of Bengal. This was the sixth trial of the state-of-the-art Agni-5. The trial was a great success. The missile hit its target with great accuracy after covering its full distance. The entire flight was monitored by radars tracking instruments and observation stations. Many new technologies developed indigenously were successfully tested in the Agni-5 trial. Navigation systems, very high accuracy Ring Laser Gyro based Inertial Navigation System (RINS) and the most modern and accurate Micro Navigation System (MINS) had ensured the missile reached the target point within few meters of accuracy Agni-V is an intercontinental ballistic missile developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) of India. The first two flights of Agni-5 in 2012 and 2013 respectively, were in open configuration. The third, fourth and fifth launches were from canister integrated with a mobile launcher, in its deliverable configuration that enables launch of the missile with a very short preparation time as compared to an open launch. It also has advantages of higher reliability, longer shelf life, less maintenance and enhanced mobility. At present, India has in its armoury the Agni series -- Agni-1 with 700 km range, Agni-2 with 2,000 km range, Agni-3 and Agni-4 with 2,500 km to more than 3,500 km range. The first test of Agni-5 was conducted on April 19, 2012, the second on September 15, 2013, the third on January 31, 2015 and fourth on December 26, 2016. The last test was held on January 18, 2018. All the five earlier trials were successful.

FPI outflows hit 18-month high Fpi = Foreign Portfolio Investment. Overseas portfolio investors pull out 29,714 cr. in May, most since Nov. 2016 Foreign investors pulled out 29,714 crore from the capital markets in May, making it the biggest outflow in 18 months, primarily due to a surge in global crude prices. This comes following an outflow of 15,561 crore from the capital markets (equity and debt) in April. Prior to that, foreign investors had pumped in 2,662 crore in March. According to the latest depository data, foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) withdrew a net sum of 10,060 crore from equities and 19,654 crore from the debt market in May, taking the total to 29,714 crore. This is the steepest outflow from the capital markets since November 2016, when FPIs had pulled out 39,396 crore. So far this year, FPIs have pulled out more than 2,100 crore from equities and more than 30,000 crore from the debt market.

Asia's first 13 'Blue Flag' beaches to be developed in India Environment-friendly, clean and equipped with amenities of international standards for tourists, 13 Indian beaches will soon get the Blue Flag certification. These beaches of Odisha, Maharashtra and other coastal states will be the first in not just India, but in Asia, to get the Blue Flag certification. The Chandrabhaga beach on the Konark coast of Odisha will be the first in Asia to get the Blue Flag certification the tag given to environment-friendly and clean beaches, equipped with amenities of international standards for tourists. The Indian beaches are being developed by the Society for Integrated Coastal Management (SICOM), an environment ministry's body working for the management of coastal areas, according to the Blue Flag certification standards. To achieve the Blue Flag standards, a beach had to strictly comply with 33 environment and tourism-related conditions. The Blue Flag beach standards were established by Copenhagen-based Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) in 1985. Maharashtra's Chiwla and Bhogave beaches are also being made a part of this initiative. Apart from these, one beach from Puducherry, Goa, Daman and Diu, Lakshadweep and Andaman and Nicobar Islands each has been chosen as Blue Flag beach.

Tiananmen Pro democracy Protest June 4, 2018 marked the 29 th anniversary of Tiananmen Square protests / massacre of China. On this day in 1989, the Chinese troops had violently retook the Tiananmen Square in Beijing from the prodemocracy protesters. These people were not happy with the rule of Deng Xiaoping, the successor of Mao Zedong, who had launched several reforms, apparently biased against urban dwellers, while favouring rural. Tiananmen Square in Beijing is known for three major protests viz. 1919, 1976 and 1989 in recent Chinese history. The 1989 prodemocracy protests started in April that year and were suppressed on June 4 after the military crackdown. This event is also known as June Fourth Incident in modern Chinese history. On June 4, 1989, the Communist government in China used force to end the protests.

Taj Declaration A Taj Declaration to Beat Plastic Pollution was adopted in Agra on Sunday as part of which efforts would be made to make the 500- metre area around the historic ivory-white marble monument litterfree and phase out single-use plastic. The workshop focussed on curbing pollution near the 17th century monument and drawing short-term and long-term plans to deal with the problem. The plastic-free programme involves a gradual phasing out of singleuse water bottles and cutlery in the 500-metre radius of the monument in the next five years. Taj Mahal was designated as World heritage site in 1983. The Apex Court and the NGT (National Green Tribunal) heard issues such as tree felling in the eco-sensitive zone near the 17th century mausoleum.
