The weather just hasn t cooperated with us. With all of the rain that we have had we have not been able to get the driveway graveled as we had hoped. We are fortunate to be receiving assistance from a local excavating company with the hauling and spreading of gravel on the driveway. They are also helping us with the installation of drain pipes. Our project, though, must be worked in between their other jobs. But the weather, not the excavating company, has been the hold up. Hopefully the driveway will be installed in the next week or so since the weather appears to be improving. Except for some grading there hasn t been any real improvement made during this past month. Depending on how much gravel the driveway takes, we will look at placing gravel on the parking area. The determining factor will be our budget. We had the equivalent of 111 in table sales some vendors brought their own tables, and some set up on the floor without tables. Special thanks go out to Tom Albert who won the radio and turned around and auctioned it off with all proceeds going to the club. Thanks also go out to all of the members who helped with the event. Continued Prez Says (cont.) not graveled, the parking area will be left natural for the time being. After the driveway and parking area is taken care of we will work quickly to get the runway graded. We won t be able to get it totally leveled because of the topology of the field but it will be more level than it is now. Afterwards we will lay the fabric runway and seed the outlying area. With luck, we can get this done in the next 4-6 weeks. On May 6, the Middle TN R/C Clubs Association will hold its 12th Annual Fellowship Fly-In at the Cumberland Flyers field in Cedar Hill. This is always a great time and the Cedar Hill field is a nice flying site. I hope to see you there. As most members know, our club is a member club of the Association. The Association exists to foster fellowship among pilots throughout the middle Tennessee area; to pool resources to put on large events while sharing the workload; and to raise funds for member clubs. The Association puts on three events during the year: a Spring Fellowship Fly-In; a Fall Fly-In and Airshow; and a Regional Swap Meet in the fall. Joe Nall Week is coming up in less than two weeks. Running from May 13-20, Nall is a must do bucket list item for R/C enthusiasts. Our good friends, Billy and Cindy (from Family Hobbies), and Mitch and Zelda, are again hosting their free Middle Tennessee Modelers Fellowship Meal Monday night, May 15. They will provide the main course but ask that any attendees bring a side dish to share and bring your own drink. They request that you let them Continued

April Meeting Minutes (cont.): New Business: No new business was discussed. Meeting adjourned at 7:38pm. Prez Says (cont.) know if you are planning to attend so that they can plan for the right amount of food. You can contact Cindy at Family Hobbies at 615-355-0775 or cindy@familyhobbies.net to let them know. Speaking of Family Hobbies, if you haven t been to their store in Smyrna, or their online store at https://familyhobbies.net/, you should check them out. If they don t have what you want/need in stock they are generally able to get it within a few days. Having a local hobby store is a luxury that most modelers throughout the country don t have, so let s do what we can to support them. I was fortunate to be able to vacation in Europe for a few weeks this month. The highlight for me was being able to spend time in the Normandy, France area. I visited many of the WWII D-Day and Normandy campaign sites. I ve shared a few of the aviation related photos in later pages of the newsletter. I hope that you enjoy them. Next May 4, 2017 From May 11-14, the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) will bring their 1929 Ford Tri-Motor to the Smyrna Airport where it will be available for rides. Rides cost $70, paid in advance, or $75 same day. Proceeds go toward maintaining this aircraft allowing it to tour the country advancing interest in aviation. See the flyer attached later in the newsletter for more information. Well that s it for this month. Dan
