THE SCOPE OF WORKSHOP Last over 20 years, intensive researches have been made on ceramic and related materials, and various materials with high performance were developed, which must play important roles related to the future science and technology. However, their applications are still limited mainly by cost performance issues, and specialists of advanced nations in the science and technology of ceramic and related materials now require the concentrated discussion. In this workshop, the low cost processing and production will be mainly discussed to find the new concept and the future directions by ceramists of US and Japan, which are recognized to be leading countries on basic researches and applications of advanced structural ceramic materials. In necessary cases, the specialists are also invited from other Asia and European countries. MAIN TOPICS For the structural and their composites, the following topics will be reviewed and discussed on the large-scale production with cost performance. And the new concept for the low cost of ceramic products will be proposed. Topic 1: Powder and related raw materials (Large scale) Topic 2: Forming and consolidation for monolithic ceramics (Large scale) Topic 3: Forming and consolidation for composites (Large scale) Topic 4: Machining, surface finishing and joining Topic 5: New materials and processing Topic 6: General discussions on low cost production of ceramic materials WORKSHOP STYLE Workshop is composed of invited and contributed papers mainly from US and Japan and discussions. Official language should be English. WORKSHOP PROCEEDINGS The authors of invited and contributed papers will be requested to submit a camera-ready manuscript by the first day of workshop. The papers will be published as a special issue of Materials Integration. The paper format for camera-ready manuscript will be sent in due time. The registration fee is 10,000, 5,000 and 5,000 Japanese Yen for the regular participants, accompanying persons and students, respectively. It includes a proceeding, a get-together party and workshop banquet. All speakers as well as delegates from USA are not required to pay it. WORKSHOP LOCATION The workshop is held at the Senri-Hankyu Hotel, which is located at the suburb of Osaka City. It will take 20 minutes from the center of Osaka City by subway.
